This study explores the symbolic value attributed by Indigenous inhabitants to theirdwellings and how the physical structure of the home serves to align domestic activities withmeanings related to their ancestral cult...This study explores the symbolic value attributed by Indigenous inhabitants to theirdwellings and how the physical structure of the home serves to align domestic activities withmeanings related to their ancestral culture. To achieve this objective, we focused on the Peruvian Andes, specifically on Coporaque, an Indigenous village founded in the 16th centuryduring colonial times. In this locality, qualitative research was carried out using the phenomenological approach, prioritizing the lived experience of the native inhabitants in their daily“life world” through in-depth interviews and direct observations. Our results broaden understanding of the Andean vernacular dwelling, making visible the ways in which the “Wasi” becomes a stage for the symbolic occurrence of domesticity. The results reveal several significantnarratives on domesticity that support and give coherence to the life of these Indigenous communities, coinciding with the symbolic value that other cultures have attributed to dwellings.The study was able to conclude on the Indigenous house’s function in sustaining regional identities and how its physical structure is embodied in the inhabitants until it becomes one of thelast bastions of resistance against the homogenizing pressure that the globalized world tries toexert on native peoples.展开更多
Hybrid-sterility-mediated reproductive isolation is pivotal for speciation,yet the underlying molecular mechanisms and environmental responses remain unclear.Here,we report a temperature-sensitive pollen killer-protec...Hybrid-sterility-mediated reproductive isolation is pivotal for speciation,yet the underlying molecular mechanisms and environmental responses remain unclear.Here,we report a temperature-sensitive pollen killer-protector system at a three-gene Sa locus for indica-japonica rice hybrid sterility.Genetic analyses identified SaFL^(+),a strong pollen protector from Sa-i(indica allele),and SaFL^(-),a weak japonica allele from Sa-j,which is exclusively functional under high temperatures.Protein interaction,ubiquitination,and degradation assays showed that SaF^(+)and SaM^(+)from Sa-i form a pollen-killer complex to bind and ubiquitinate the reactive oxygen species scavenger COX11 for degradation in mitochondria,causing male sterility of the Sa-j pollen.Protein affinity and competitive binding assays indicated that in the Sa-i pollen,SaFL^(+)binds SaM^(+)to disrupt the killer complex and restore fertility.However,the weak protector SaFL^(-)can bind SaM^(+)under high temperatures,sparing the Sa-j pollen from sterility.Synteny comparisons and haplotype analyses showed that the Sa locus originated in ancient wild rice and underwent divergence within the Oryza genus during expansion from tropical to temperate environments,which might have driven latitudinal adaptation and reproductive isolation in rice populations.Thus,Sa represents a temperature-sensitive reproductive-isolation system associated with domestication and environmental adaptation in rice.展开更多

The genetic basis for Gossypium hirsutum race latifolium,the putative ancestor of cultivated upland cotton,emerging from the semi-wild races to be domesticated into cultivated upland cotton is unknown.Here,we reported...The genetic basis for Gossypium hirsutum race latifolium,the putative ancestor of cultivated upland cotton,emerging from the semi-wild races to be domesticated into cultivated upland cotton is unknown.Here,we reported a high-quality genome assembly of G.latifolium.Comparative genome analyses revealed substantial variations in both gene group composition and genomic sequences across 13 cotton genomes,including the expansion of photosynthesis-related gene groups in G.latifolium compared with other races and the pivotal contribution of structural variations(SVs)to G.hirsutum domestication.Based on the resequencing reads and constructed pan-genome of upland cotton,co-selection regions and SVs with significant frequency differences among different populations were identified.Genes located in these regions or affected by these variations may characterize the differences between G.latifolium and other races,and could be involved in maintenance of upland cotton domestication phenotypes.These findings may assist in mining genes for upland cotton improvement and improving the understanding of the genetic basis of upland cotton domestication.展开更多

Polyploidy,or whole-genome duplication,is an important evolutionary process that has shaped the genomes and traits of many plants,including numerous important crops.The Brassica genus,which includes diverse vegetables...Polyploidy,or whole-genome duplication,is an important evolutionary process that has shaped the genomes and traits of many plants,including numerous important crops.The Brassica genus,which includes diverse vegetables and oilseeds,is a key model system for studying how polyploidy affects plant diversification and domestication.This review summarizes the current understanding of how multiple rounds of ancient and more recent polyploidization events laid the foundation for the wide diversity seen in Brassica.We discuss the key outcomes through which polyploidy facilitates the accumulation of genetic variation,including genomic buffering that enables mutation retention.Furthermore,we explore the significant roles of interspecies and interploidy introgression in introducing external genetic novelty.We highlight homoeologous exchange(HE)as a critical mechanism unique to allopolyploids,driving substantial genomic rearrangements including presence-absence variations and gene dosage alterations that directly contribute to significant phenotypic innovation and adaptation in Brassica.Together,these polyploidy-associated processes have led to the extensive range of genomic variations that shaped great morphological diversification in the domestication of Brassica.By integrating insights from genomics,genetics,and evolutionary biology,this review shows how polyploidy has been central to Brassica's success and agricultural value.We also suggest future research areas to better understand polyploid evolution and improve crop breeding.展开更多
Background Unveiling genetic diversity features and understanding the genetic mechanisms of diverse goat pheno-types are pivotal in facilitating the preservation and utilization of these genetic resources.However,the ...Background Unveiling genetic diversity features and understanding the genetic mechanisms of diverse goat pheno-types are pivotal in facilitating the preservation and utilization of these genetic resources.However,the total genetic diversity within a species can’t be captured by the reference genome of a single individual.The pan-genome is a col-lection of all the DNA sequences that occur in a species,and it is expected to capture the total genomic diversity of the specific species.Results We constructed a goat pan-genome using map-to-pan assemble based on 813 individuals,including 723 domestic goats and 90 samples from their wild relatives,which presented a broad regional and global represen-tation.In total,146 Mb sequences and 974 genes were identified as absent from the reference genome(ARS1.2;GCF_001704415.2).We identified 3,190 novel single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)using the pan-genome analysis.These novel SNPs could properly reveal the population structure of domestic goats and their wild relatives.Presence/absence variation(PAV)analysis revealed gene loss and intense negative selection during domestication and improvement.Conclusions Our research highlights the importance of the goat pan-genome in capturing the missing genetic variations.It reveals the changes in genomic architecture during goat domestication and improvement,such as gene loss.This improves our understanding of the evolutionary and breeding history of goats.展开更多

Objective: This work aimed to describe the epidemiological profile of AD in children aged 0 to 15...Domestic accidents (DA) are common in children and responsible for high morbidity and mortality in developed countries. Objective: This work aimed to describe the epidemiological profile of AD in children aged 0 to 15 years in Libreville. Materials and Methods: All children aged 0 to 15 years who were victims of unintentional trauma occurring at home or in its immediate surroundings were included. We studied the mother’s age, family situation, socioeconomic level, type of housing, age and sex of the child, characteristics of AD and their management. Results: The majority of mothers lived in an intermediate dwelling (80.6%). They were married (37.1%), middle managers (58.2%) and of average socioeconomic level (60.5%). The average age of the mothers was 39.9 ± 11.4 years. Families with more than three children were most exposed (39.2%) to the occurrence of AD. The average age of the children was 6.5 ± 3.3 years with a male predominance. The sex ratio was 1.8. The most common ADs were falls (34.7%), followed by cuts (22.3%) and burns (17.7%). Wounds (54.4%), followed by burns (33%) and fractures (5.1%) were the main types of injuries. The upper limbs were the most affected body part (33.9%) followed by the lower limbs (30.1%) and the head (27.3%). The yard was the preferred location for ADs to occur (51.1%), and particularly during the holiday period (48.4%). The risk factors related to the occurrence of AD were age, socioeconomic level, number of children and type of housing. Care was provided at home in 51.9% of cases. Conclusion: The occurrence of AD in children is not negligible;hence the need to implement preventive measures to minimize their frequency.展开更多

文摘The genetic basis for Gossypium hirsutum race latifolium,the putative ancestor of cultivated upland cotton,emerging from the semi-wild races to be domesticated into cultivated upland cotton is unknown.Here,we reported a high-quality genome assembly of G.latifolium.Comparative genome analyses revealed substantial variations in both gene group composition and genomic sequences across 13 cotton genomes,including the expansion of photosynthesis-related gene groups in G.latifolium compared with other races and the pivotal contribution of structural variations(SVs)to G.hirsutum domestication.Based on the resequencing reads and constructed pan-genome of upland cotton,co-selection regions and SVs with significant frequency differences among different populations were identified.Genes located in these regions or affected by these variations may characterize the differences between G.latifolium and other races,and could be involved in maintenance of upland cotton domestication phenotypes.These findings may assist in mining genes for upland cotton improvement and improving the understanding of the genetic basis of upland cotton domestication.
文摘Modern crops were derived from wild ancestors between 8000 and 12,000 years ago in a process called domestication,when humans selected plant types that gave better yield.For cereal plants,they carry so-called “domestication syndromes”,such as non-shattering spikes,free threshing grains,shorter seed dormancy,and larger grain size[1].But these early crop breeders selected only a small number of domesticated plants to satisfy their limited need,leading to a phenomenon called “domestication bottleneck”resulting in restricted genetic diversity among crop cultivars.Untapped crop wild relatives(CWRs)remain a source of traits to be bred into new cultivars with resilience to challenges facing modern agriculture.

文摘The energy centers of eukaryotic cells,known as mitochondria,are crucial for human and animal health and physiological functions.Mitochondria exhibit unique characteristics in multiple aspects,as they participate in energy production and affect calcium homeostasis,proliferation,and programmed cell death.The mitochondria contain inner DNA that functions with nuclear DNA to influence regulatory processes and division.Moreover,this duality of DNA appears in the progression of mitochondrial disorders.These mitochondrial diseases,inherited or acquired,are a group of bioenergetic illnesses caused by mutations and alterations in crucial energy genes and functions.Many of these genetic changes increase during aging,leading to disorders connected to environmental stress.Mitochondrial diseases are a risk factor for domestic animals and can occur when a disorder develops due to heart,neurological,performance,or infertility problems.This review comprehensively analyzes diseases caused by inherited(primary)or environmental(secondary)damage to mtDNA and mitochondrial functions and their diagnostic possibilities in domestic animals.We will examine how to identify these issues,how they develop,and what we can do to provide our domestic animals with the best diagnostics.

文摘Polyploidy,or whole-genome duplication,is an important evolutionary process that has shaped the genomes and traits of many plants,including numerous important crops.The Brassica genus,which includes diverse vegetables and oilseeds,is a key model system for studying how polyploidy affects plant diversification and domestication.This review summarizes the current understanding of how multiple rounds of ancient and more recent polyploidization events laid the foundation for the wide diversity seen in Brassica.We discuss the key outcomes through which polyploidy facilitates the accumulation of genetic variation,including genomic buffering that enables mutation retention.Furthermore,we explore the significant roles of interspecies and interploidy introgression in introducing external genetic novelty.We highlight homoeologous exchange(HE)as a critical mechanism unique to allopolyploids,driving substantial genomic rearrangements including presence-absence variations and gene dosage alterations that directly contribute to significant phenotypic innovation and adaptation in Brassica.Together,these polyploidy-associated processes have led to the extensive range of genomic variations that shaped great morphological diversification in the domestication of Brassica.By integrating insights from genomics,genetics,and evolutionary biology,this review shows how polyploidy has been central to Brassica's success and agricultural value.We also suggest future research areas to better understand polyploid evolution and improve crop breeding.

文摘Background Unveiling genetic diversity features and understanding the genetic mechanisms of diverse goat pheno-types are pivotal in facilitating the preservation and utilization of these genetic resources.However,the total genetic diversity within a species can’t be captured by the reference genome of a single individual.The pan-genome is a col-lection of all the DNA sequences that occur in a species,and it is expected to capture the total genomic diversity of the specific species.Results We constructed a goat pan-genome using map-to-pan assemble based on 813 individuals,including 723 domestic goats and 90 samples from their wild relatives,which presented a broad regional and global represen-tation.In total,146 Mb sequences and 974 genes were identified as absent from the reference genome(ARS1.2;GCF_001704415.2).We identified 3,190 novel single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)using the pan-genome analysis.These novel SNPs could properly reveal the population structure of domestic goats and their wild relatives.Presence/absence variation(PAV)analysis revealed gene loss and intense negative selection during domestication and improvement.Conclusions Our research highlights the importance of the goat pan-genome in capturing the missing genetic variations.It reveals the changes in genomic architecture during goat domestication and improvement,such as gene loss.This improves our understanding of the evolutionary and breeding history of goats.

文摘Sorghum,renowned for its substantial biomass production and remarkable tolerance to various stresses,possesses extensive gene resources and phenotypic variations.A comprehensive understanding of the genetic basis underlying complex agronomic traits is essential for unlocking the potential of sorghum in addressing food and feed security and utilizing marginal lands.In this context,we provide an overview of the major trends in genomic resource studies focusing on key agronomic traits over the past decade,accompanied by a summary of functional genomic platforms.We also delve into the molecular functions and regulatory networks of impactful genes for important agricultural traits.Lastly,we discuss and synthesize the current challenges and prospects for advancing molecular design breeding by gene-editing and polymerization of the excellent alleles,with the aim of accelerating the development of desired sorghum varieties.
文摘Domestic accidents (DA) are common in children and responsible for high morbidity and mortality in developed countries. Objective: This work aimed to describe the epidemiological profile of AD in children aged 0 to 15 years in Libreville. Materials and Methods: All children aged 0 to 15 years who were victims of unintentional trauma occurring at home or in its immediate surroundings were included. We studied the mother’s age, family situation, socioeconomic level, type of housing, age and sex of the child, characteristics of AD and their management. Results: The majority of mothers lived in an intermediate dwelling (80.6%). They were married (37.1%), middle managers (58.2%) and of average socioeconomic level (60.5%). The average age of the mothers was 39.9 ± 11.4 years. Families with more than three children were most exposed (39.2%) to the occurrence of AD. The average age of the children was 6.5 ± 3.3 years with a male predominance. The sex ratio was 1.8. The most common ADs were falls (34.7%), followed by cuts (22.3%) and burns (17.7%). Wounds (54.4%), followed by burns (33%) and fractures (5.1%) were the main types of injuries. The upper limbs were the most affected body part (33.9%) followed by the lower limbs (30.1%) and the head (27.3%). The yard was the preferred location for ADs to occur (51.1%), and particularly during the holiday period (48.4%). The risk factors related to the occurrence of AD were age, socioeconomic level, number of children and type of housing. Care was provided at home in 51.9% of cases. Conclusion: The occurrence of AD in children is not negligible;hence the need to implement preventive measures to minimize their frequency.

文摘Economic violence is a form of domestic violence that extends beyond physical harm,affecting victims’economic stability and independence.This situation perpetuates gender inequality and also reinforces the cycle of gender-based violence.With definitions of economic violence broadening to encompass a range of coercive and manipulative behaviors-from financial abuse in domestic violence scenarios to the economic harassment faced by stay-at-home moms-understanding this form of exploitation is crucial for crafting effective interventions.This article aims to delve into various facets of economic violence,including its definition,prevalence,and the stark realities it creates for its victims.Following the search of international databases:Social Work Abstracts(EBSCO),Psychology Abstracts,Family and Women Studies Worldwide,Psychiatry Online,Psych INFO(including Psych ARTICLES),PubMed,Wiley,and Scopus,60 peer-reviewed articles that met all inclusion criteria were included in the paper.Our review clarifies that looking forward,the call for a comprehensive understanding of economic violence,enhanced legal frameworks,and the strengthening of supportive networks underscore the multidisciplinary approach required to combat this issue effectively.

文摘Different translators adopt various translation strategies due to their distinct cognitive construal operations.Based on the theory of cognitive construal,this paper focuses on the translation process of Lin Yutang’s English version of Six Chapters of a Floating Life,exploring the translator’s cognitive construal operations in understanding the source text and producing the target text,as well as examining the cognitive motivations behind these operations.The translation of literary works is not the process of decoding and re-encoding between languages,but also the outcome of the translator’s cognitive construal.Lin Yutang’s translation possesses a high degree of specificity,respecting the relationship between figure and ground in the original text,highlighting the beauty of the literary works.This study helps reveal the multiple interactive relationships among the translator,the original text,and the readers.
