The emergence of various technologies such as terahertz communications,Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces(RIS),and AI-powered communication services will burden network operators with rising infrastructure costs.Rece...The emergence of various technologies such as terahertz communications,Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces(RIS),and AI-powered communication services will burden network operators with rising infrastructure costs.Recently,the Open Radio Access Network(O-RAN)has been introduced as a solution for growing financial and operational burdens in Beyond 5G(B5G)and 6G networks.O-RAN promotes openness and intelligence to overcome the limitations of traditional RANs.By disaggregating conventional Base Band Units(BBUs)into O-RAN Distributed Units(O-DU)and O-RAN Centralized Units(O-CU),O-RAN offers greater flexibility for upgrades and network automation.However,this openness introduces new security challenges compared to traditional RANs.Many existing studies overlook these security requirements of the O-RAN networks.To gain deeper insights into the O-RAN system and security,this paper first provides an overview of the general O-RAN architecture and its diverse use cases relevant to B5G and 6G applications.We then delve into specifications of O-RAN security threats and requirements,aiming to mitigate security vulnerabilities effectively.By providing a comprehensive understanding of O-RAN architecture,use cases,and security considerations,thisworkserves as a valuable resource for future research in O-RAN and its security.展开更多

Current clinical guidelines for low-back pain recommend acupuncture for CLBP. However, there are very few high-quality acupuncture studies on CLBP in older adults. Clinical acupuncture experts in the American Traditional Chinese Medicine Association(ATCMA) were interested in the recent grant on CLBP research announced by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health. The ATCMA experts held an online discussion on the subject of real-world acupuncture treatments for CLBP in older adults. Seven participants, each with more than 20 years of acupuncture practice, discussed their own unique clinical experience while another participant talked about the potential mechanism of acupuncture in pain management. As a result of the discussion, a picture of a similar treatment strategy emerged across the participants for CLBP in older adults. This discussion shows that acupuncture may have complicated mechanisms in pain management, yet it is effective for the treatment of chronic pain involving maladaptive neuroplasticity;therefore, it should be effective for CLBP in older adults.展开更多

In this context, it is important to know how allies and opponents are positioned, in order to understand the discussion dynamics and plan adequate actions. This paper suggests the use of social network visualizations to explicit oppositions and alliances in order to support the understanding and following of political discussions. A system which supports these visualizations was built. An experiment performed to test the proposed visualizations showed to which extent they can be more efficient in identifying information about clashes and alliances than an online discussion system can.展开更多

Background Social media listening is a new approach for gathering insights from social media platforms about users experiences.This approach has not been applied to analyse discussions about Alzheimer's disease(AD...Background Social media listening is a new approach for gathering insights from social media platforms about users experiences.This approach has not been applied to analyse discussions about Alzheimer's disease(AD)in China.Aims We aimed to leverage multisource Chinese data to gain deeper insights into the current state of the daily management of Chinese patients with AD and the burdens faced by their caregivers.Methods We searched ninemainstreampublic onlineplatforms in China fromSeptember2010 to March 2024.Natural language processing tools were used to identify patients and caregivers,and categorise patients by disease stage forfurther analysis.We analysed the current state of patient daily management,including diagnosis and treatment,choice oftreatment scenarios,patient safetyand caregiverconcerns.Results Atotal of 1211patientswithAD(66% female,82% aged 60-90)and 756caregiversfor patients with AD were identified from 107556 online sources.Most patients were derived from online consultation platforms(43%),followed by bulletin board system platforms(24%).Among the patients categorised into specific disease stages(n=382),42% were in the moderate stage.The most frequent diagnostic tools included medical history(97%)and symptoms(84%).Treatment options for patients with AD primarily included cholinesterase inhibitors,N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonists and antipsychotics.Both quantitative and qualitative analysis of patients whoexperiencedwandering(n=92)indicated a higher incidence of wandering during the moderate stage of the disease.Most caregivers were family members,with their primary concerns focusing on disease management and treatment(90%),followed by daily life care(37%)and psychosocial support(25%).Conclusions Online platform data provide a broad spectrum of real-world insights into individuals affected byAD in China.This study enhances our understanding of the experiences of patients with AD and their caregivers,providing guidance for developing personalised interventions,providing advicefor caregivers and improving care for patients with AD.展开更多

The data used in the study consisted of the multicultural discussions in the corpus of English as a lingua franca in academic settings （ELFA）. The approach of conversation analysis （CA） was used together with corpus techniques with the aim to provide quantitative support to function categorizations which were drawn from qualitative analysis. Results of the study not only demonstrated the multi-functionality of you know and I mean but also suggested that these two discourse markers played specific functions in academic seminar discussions under ELF contexts. In the context of cross-cultural and academic communication where problematic terms may occur, we found that you know was mainly used to achieve clarity, while I mean was primarily used to correct previous statements and dysfluencies. The findings of this study will help ELF speakers communicate more effectively in academic interactions by recognizing the functions of discourse markers and using them properly.展开更多
