The proposed double-damped tuned AC filters offer theadvantages of improved performance of HVDC systems in terms of betterpower quality, high power factor, and lower total harmonic distortion (THD).The system under analysis consists of an 878 km long HVDC transmissionline connecting converter stations at Matiari and Lahore, two major cities inPakistan. The main focus of this research is to design a novel AC filter usingthe equivalent impedance method of two single-tuned and double-dampedtuned AC filters. Additionally, the impact of the damping resistor on the ACchannel is examined. TheTHDof theHVDCsystem with and without currentAC filters was also compared in this research and a double-damped tuned ACfilter was proposed. The results of the simulation represent that the proposeddouble-damped tuned AC filter is far smaller in size, offers better powerquality, and has a much lower THD compared to the AC filters currently inplace in the converter station. Firstly, the characteristic parameter and the influence parameters for the corrosion status were determined. Secondly, an experimental system was established for simulating the corrosion process within the stray current interference. Then, a predictive model for the corrosion status was built, using a support vector machine(SVM) method and experimental data. The data were divided into two sets, including training set and testing set. The training set was used to generate the SVM model and the testing set was used to evaluate the predictive performance of the SVM model. The results show that the relationship between the characteristic parameter and the influence parameters is nonlinear and the SVM model is suitable for predicting the corrosion status.展开更多
Electrified railways are becoming a popular transport medium and these consume a large amount of electrical energy.Environmental concerns demand reduction in energy use and peak power demand of railway systems.Further...Electrified railways are becoming a popular transport medium and these consume a large amount of electrical energy.Environmental concerns demand reduction in energy use and peak power demand of railway systems.Furthermore,high transmission losses in DC railway systems make local storage of energy an increasingly attractive option.An optimisation framework based on genetic algorithms is developed to optimise a DC electric rail network in terms of a comprehensive set of decision variables including storage size,charge/discharge power limits,timetable and train driving style/trajectory to maximise benefits of energy storage in reducing railway peak power and energy consumption.Experimental results for the considered real-world networks show a reduction of energy consumption in the range 15%–30%depending on the train driving style,and reduced power peaks.展开更多

An interesting alternative to DC machines for the supply of DC grids is constituted by a three-phase alternator feeding an AC/DC rectifier. In this paper, alternative solutions are investigated where the AC alternator is equipped with more (iV) three-phase windings and feeds the DC load through more (N) cascade-connected rectifiers. The advantages of this solution with respect to the conventional three-phase topology are highlighted along with their dependence on the number (N) of the alternator windings. For this purpose, test results are reported and discussed on a prototype generator whose stator coils can be differently connected to obtained one, two, three or four windings. The major benefits (in terms of DC output current quality and field current ripple) are found when passing from the three-phase solution to the dual winding topology; conversely, relatively little advantage is gained by increasing the number of stator windings above two.展开更多
The concept of a flexible power electronics substation(FPES)was first applied in the Zhangbei DC distribution network demonstration project.As a multi-port power electronics transformer(PET)with different AC and DC vo...The concept of a flexible power electronics substation(FPES)was first applied in the Zhangbei DC distribution network demonstration project.As a multi-port power electronics transformer(PET)with different AC and DC voltage levels,the FPES has adopted a novel topology integrating modular multilevel converter(MMC)and four-winding medium frequency transformer(FWMFT)based multiport DC-DC converter,which can significantly reduce capacitance in each sub-module(SM)of a MMC and also save space and cost.In this paper,in order to accelerate speed of electromagnetic transient(EMT)simulations of FPES based hybrid AC/DC distribution systems,an averaged-value model(AVM)is proposed for efficient and accurate representation of FPES.Assume that all SM capacitor voltages are perfectly balanced in the MMC,then the MMC behavior can be modeled using controlled voltage sources based on modulation voltages from control systems.In terms of the averaged current transfer characteristics among the windings of the FWMFT,we consider that all multiport DC-DC converters are controlled with the same dynamics,a lumped averaged model using controlled current and voltage sources has been developed for these four-port DC-DC converters connected to the upper or lower arms of the MMC.The presented FPES AVM model has been tested and validated by comparison with a detailed IGBT-based EMT model.Results show that the AVM is significantly more efficient while maintaining its accuracy in an EMT simulation.展开更多
This paper reviews the existing testing techniques for high voltage direct current(HVDC)cable systems,following as a backbone the structure of CIGRE Technical Brochure(TB)852:2021‘Recommendations for testing DC extru...This paper reviews the existing testing techniques for high voltage direct current(HVDC)cable systems,following as a backbone the structure of CIGRE Technical Brochure(TB)852:2021‘Recommendations for testing DC extruded cable systems for power transmission at a rated voltage up to 800 kV’because it has a fairly similar structure to CIGRE TB 853:2021 for lapped DC cables,and especially because of the impressive spread of HVDC extruded cables experienced worldwide in the last 25 years.The review considers development tests,pre-qualification tests,extension of qualification test,type tests(with hints at IEEE 1732-2017 for space charge measurements in the qualification of HVDC extruded cables),routine tests(with hints at IEEE 2862-2020 for routine tests of HVDC extruded cable system joints),sample tests and after installation tests.The review also analyses CIGRE TB 853 for lapped HVDC cable systems,as these cables remain unbeaten for submarine applications at the highest sea depths.The main novelties of CIGRE TB 852 and 853 with respect to previous standards for HVDC cable systems(mainly CIGRE TB 496 and IEC 62895 for extruded cables and CIGRE Electra 189:2000 for lapped cables)are put under the spotlight-with focus on the so-called temporary over-voltage tests-together with the limits and gaps of CIGRE TB 852.The main HVDC cable system testing equipment that is usually employed for electro-thermal tests is also treated.Emphasis is given to CIGRE TB 490 to treat the peculiarities of submarine cable systems,as well as to mechanical tests,having CIGRE TB 623 as a reference,with particular focus on the special sea trial tests.An example of an innovative sea trial testing procedure is shown,which is the outcome of a fruitful partnership between a cable manufacturer and the national Transmission System Operator in Italy.展开更多
