In addition, HAM is different from all other analytic techniques in providing a simple way to adjust and control convergence region of the series solution by means of an auxiliary parameter h. The gradient dependent model is adopted in the numerical model to overcome the result mesh-sensitivity problem in the dynamic strain softening or strain localization analysis. The equations for the dynamic elastic-plastic problems are derived in terms of the parametric variational principle, which is valid for associated, non-associated and strain softening plastic constitutive models in the finite element analysis. The precise integration method, which has been widely used for discretization in time domain of the linear problems, is introduced for the solution of dynamic nonlinear equations. The new algorithm proposed is based on the combination of the parametric quadratic programming method and the precise integration method and has all the advantages in both of the algorithms. Results of numerical examples demonstrate not only the validity, but also the advantages of the algorithm proposed for the numerical solution of nonlinear dynamic problems.展开更多

We adopt a 6-DOF weakly nonlinear time domain model to predict the ship motions of parametric rolling conditions. Unlike previous flare slamming analysis, our proposed method takes roll motion into account to calculate the impact angle and relative vertical velocity between ship sections on the bow flare and wave surface. We use the Wagner model to analyze the slamming impact forces and the slamming occurrence probability. Through numerical simulations, we investigate the maximum flare slamming pressures of a container ship for different speeds and wave conditions. To further clarify the mechanism of flare slamming phenomena in parametric rolling conditions, we also conduct real-time simulations to determine the relationship between slamming pressure and 3-DOF motions, namely roll, pitch, and heave.展开更多

Effects of microstructural and materials parameters on tensi...An axisymmetrical unit cell model was used to represent a bimodal Al alloy that was composed of both nano-grained (NG) and coarse-grained (CG) aluminum. Effects of microstructural and materials parameters on tensile properties of bimodal AI alloy were investigated by finite element method (FEM). The parameters analyzed included aspect ratios of CG Al and the unit cell, volume fraction of CG Al (VFCG), and yield strength and strain hardening exponent of CG Al. Aspect ratios of CG Al and the unit cell have no significant influence on tensile stress-strain response of the bimodal Al alloy. This phenomenon derives from the similarity in elastic modulus and coefficient of thermal expansion between CG AI and NG Al. Conversely, tensile properties of bimodal Al alloy are extremely sensitive to VFCG, yield strength and strain hardening exponent of CG Al. Specifically, as VFCG increases, both yield strength and ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of the bimodal Al alloy decreases, while uniform strain of bimodal AI alloy increases. In addition, an increase in yield strength of CG Al results in an increase in both yield stress and UTS of bimodal AI alloy and a decrease in uniform strain of bimodal Al alloy. The lower capability in lowering the increase of stress concentration in NG Al due to a higher yield strength of CG Al causes the lower uniform strain of the bimodal AI alloy. When strain hardening exponent of CG Al increases, 0.2% yield stress, UTS, and uniform strain of the bimodal Al alloy increases. This can be attributed to the increased work-hardening ability of CG Al with a higher strain hardening exponent.展开更多

The parametric variational principle and quadratic programming method are developed for elastic-plastic Voronoi finite element analysis of two-dimensional problems. Finite element formulations are derived and a standard quadratic programming model is deduced from the elastic-plastic equations. Influence of microscopic heterogeneities on the overall mechanical response of heterogeneous materials is studied in detail. The overall properties of heterogeneous materials depend mostly on the size, shape and distribution of the material phases of the microstructure. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the method developed.展开更多

However, it is difficult to create...Optimization analysis and computational fluid dynamics (CFDs) have been applied simultaneously, in which a parametric model plays an important role in finding the optimal solution. However, it is difficult to create a parametric model for a complex shape with irregular curves, such as a submarine hull form. In this study, the cubic Bezier curve and curve-plane intersection method are used to generate a solid model of a parametric submarine hull form taking three input parameters into account: nose radius, tail radius, and length-height hull ratio (L/H). Application program interface (API) scripting is also used to write code in the ANSYS DesignModeler. The results show that the submarine shape can be generated with some variation of the input parameters. An example is given that shows how the proposed method can be applied successfully to a hull resistance optimization case. The parametric design of the middle submarine type was chosen to be modified. First, the original submarine model was analyzed, in advance, using CFD. Then, using the response surface graph, some candidate optimal designs with a minimum hull resistance coefficient were obtained. Further, the optimization method in goal-driven optimization (GDO) was implemented to find the submarine hull form with the minimum hull resistance coefficient (Ct). The minimum C, was obtained. The calculated difference in (7, values between the initial submarine and the optimum submarine is around 0.26%, with the C, of the initial submarine and the optimum submarine being 0.001 508 26 and 0.001 504 29, respectively. The results show that the optimum submarine hull form shows a higher nose radius (rn) and higher L/H than those of the initial submarine shape, while the radius of the tail (r1) is smaller than that of the initial shape.展开更多

The beam is composed of a substrate and two piezoelectric layers and assumed as an Euler-Bernoulli model with inextensible deformation. A nonlinear distributed parameter model of cantilevered piezoelectric energy harvesters is proposed using the generalized Hamilton's principle. The proposed model includes geometric and inertia nonlinearity, but neglects the material nonlinearity. Using the Galerkin decomposition method and harmonic balance method, analytical expressions of the frequency-response curves are presented when the first bending mode of the beam plays a dominant role. Using these expressions, we investigate the effects of the damping, load resistance, electromechanical coupling, and excitation amplitude on the frequency-response curves. We also study the difference between the nonlinear lumped-parameter and distributed- parameter model for predicting the performance of the energy harvesting system. Only in the case of parametric excitation, we demonstrate that the energy harvesting system has an initiation excitation threshold below which no energy can be harvested. We also illustrate that the damping and load resistance affect the initiation excitation threshold.展开更多

Parametric ro...Parametric rolling is one of five types of the ship stability failure modes as proposed by IMO. The periodic change of the metacentric height is often considered as the internal cause of this phenomenon. Parametric rolling is a complex nonlinear hydrodynamic problem, often accompanied by large amplitude vertical motions of ships. In recent years,the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes(RANS) equation simulations for viscous flows have made great progress in the field of ship seakeeping. In this paper, the parametric rolling for the C11 containership in regular waves is studied both experimentally and numerically. In the experiments, parametric rolling amplitudes at different drafts, forward speeds and wave steepnesses are analyzed. The differences in the steady amplitudes of parametric rolling are observed for two drafts. The effect of the incident wave steepness(or wave amplitude) is also studied, and this supports previous results obtained on limits of the stability for parametric rolling. In numerical simulations, the ship motions of parametric rolling are analyzed by use of the potential-flow and viscous-flow methods. In the viscousflow method, the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations are solved using the overset grid method. The numerical accuracies of the two methods at different wave steepnesses are also discussed.展开更多

The structural optimization of air filter is often based on the bench experiment, which has high implementation cost and poor performance. In view of this, taking computational fluid dynamics(CFD) as the basic technical means, an optimization design method based on parametric sensitivity combined with equidistant search was proposed. Specifically, the sensitivity of local structure parameters to pressure loss was analyzed by taking local structure of air filter as the object. According to the sensitivity, the method of equidistant search was used to optimize the parameters in order, so as to achieve the goal of overall optimization. After optimization, the pressure loss decreased by 45.13% and the effect was remarkable.展开更多

The uncertainties are assumed to be time-invariant, norm-bounded, and exist in both the system and control input matrices. ...A robust decentralized H∞ control problem for uncertain multi-channel systems is considered. The uncertainties are assumed to be time-invariant, norm-bounded, and exist in both the system and control input matrices. The dynamic output feedback is mainly dealt with. A necessary and sufficient condition for the uncertain multi-channel system to be stabilized robustly with a specified disturbance attenuation level is derived based on the bounded real lemma, which is reduced to a feasibility problem of a nonlinear matrix inequality (NMI). A two-stage homotopy method is used to solve the NMI iteratively. First, a decentralized controller for the nominal system with no uncertainty is computed by imposing structural constraints on the coefficient matrices of the controller gradually. Then the decentralized controller is modified, again gradually, to cope with the uncertainties. On each stage, a variable is fixed alternately at the iterations to reduce the NMI to a linear matrix inequality (LMI). A given example shows the efficiency of this method.展开更多

文摘Optimization analysis and computational fluid dynamics (CFDs) have been applied simultaneously, in which a parametric model plays an important role in finding the optimal solution. However, it is difficult to create a parametric model for a complex shape with irregular curves, such as a submarine hull form. In this study, the cubic Bezier curve and curve-plane intersection method are used to generate a solid model of a parametric submarine hull form taking three input parameters into account: nose radius, tail radius, and length-height hull ratio (L/H). Application program interface (API) scripting is also used to write code in the ANSYS DesignModeler. The results show that the submarine shape can be generated with some variation of the input parameters. An example is given that shows how the proposed method can be applied successfully to a hull resistance optimization case. The parametric design of the middle submarine type was chosen to be modified. First, the original submarine model was analyzed, in advance, using CFD. Then, using the response surface graph, some candidate optimal designs with a minimum hull resistance coefficient were obtained. Further, the optimization method in goal-driven optimization (GDO) was implemented to find the submarine hull form with the minimum hull resistance coefficient (Ct). The minimum C, was obtained. The calculated difference in (7, values between the initial submarine and the optimum submarine is around 0.26%, with the C, of the initial submarine and the optimum submarine being 0.001 508 26 and 0.001 504 29, respectively. The results show that the optimum submarine hull form shows a higher nose radius (rn) and higher L/H than those of the initial submarine shape, while the radius of the tail (r1) is smaller than that of the initial shape.

文摘The nonlinear dynamics of cantilevered piezoelectric beams is investigated under simultaneous parametric and external excitations. The beam is composed of a substrate and two piezoelectric layers and assumed as an Euler-Bernoulli model with inextensible deformation. A nonlinear distributed parameter model of cantilevered piezoelectric energy harvesters is proposed using the generalized Hamilton's principle. The proposed model includes geometric and inertia nonlinearity, but neglects the material nonlinearity. Using the Galerkin decomposition method and harmonic balance method, analytical expressions of the frequency-response curves are presented when the first bending mode of the beam plays a dominant role. Using these expressions, we investigate the effects of the damping, load resistance, electromechanical coupling, and excitation amplitude on the frequency-response curves. We also study the difference between the nonlinear lumped-parameter and distributed- parameter model for predicting the performance of the energy harvesting system. Only in the case of parametric excitation, we demonstrate that the energy harvesting system has an initiation excitation threshold below which no energy can be harvested. We also illustrate that the damping and load resistance affect the initiation excitation threshold.

文摘Parametric rolling is one of five types of the ship stability failure modes as proposed by IMO. The periodic change of the metacentric height is often considered as the internal cause of this phenomenon. Parametric rolling is a complex nonlinear hydrodynamic problem, often accompanied by large amplitude vertical motions of ships. In recent years,the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes(RANS) equation simulations for viscous flows have made great progress in the field of ship seakeeping. In this paper, the parametric rolling for the C11 containership in regular waves is studied both experimentally and numerically. In the experiments, parametric rolling amplitudes at different drafts, forward speeds and wave steepnesses are analyzed. The differences in the steady amplitudes of parametric rolling are observed for two drafts. The effect of the incident wave steepness(or wave amplitude) is also studied, and this supports previous results obtained on limits of the stability for parametric rolling. In numerical simulations, the ship motions of parametric rolling are analyzed by use of the potential-flow and viscous-flow methods. In the viscousflow method, the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations are solved using the overset grid method. The numerical accuracies of the two methods at different wave steepnesses are also discussed.

文摘To investigate the principal resonance in transverse nonlinear parametric vibration of an axially accelerating viscoelastic string,the method of multiple scales is applied directly to the nonlinear partial differential equation that governs the transverse vibration of the string.To derive the governing equation,Newton's second law,Lagrangean strain,and Kelvin's model are respectively used to account the dynamical relation,geometric nonlinearity and the viscoelasticity of the string material. Based on the solvability condition of eliminating the secular terms,closed form solutions are obtained for the amplitude and the existence conditions of nontrivial steady-state response of the principal parametric resonance.The Lyapunov linearized stability theory is employed to analyze the stability of the trivial and nontrivial solutions in the principal parametric resonance.Some numerical examples are presented to show the effects of the mean transport speed,the amplitude and the frequency of speed variation.

文摘As the supporting supplier of the main engine plant, the general air filter manufacturers have insufficient technical reserves. The structural optimization of air filter is often based on the bench experiment, which has high implementation cost and poor performance. In view of this, taking computational fluid dynamics(CFD) as the basic technical means, an optimization design method based on parametric sensitivity combined with equidistant search was proposed. Specifically, the sensitivity of local structure parameters to pressure loss was analyzed by taking local structure of air filter as the object. According to the sensitivity, the method of equidistant search was used to optimize the parameters in order, so as to achieve the goal of overall optimization. After optimization, the pressure loss decreased by 45.13% and the effect was remarkable.

文摘A new algorithm is developed based on the parametric variational principle for elastic-plastic analysis of Cosserat continuum. The governing equations of the classic elastic-plastic problem are regularized by adding rotational degrees of freedom to the conventional translational degrees of freedom in conventional continuum mechanics. The parametric potential energy princi- ple of the Cosserat theory is developed, from which the finite element formulation of the Cosserat theory and the corresponding parametric quadratic programming model are constructed. Strain localization problems are computed and the mesh independent results are obtained.

文摘A robust decentralized H∞ control problem for uncertain multi-channel systems is considered. The uncertainties are assumed to be time-invariant, norm-bounded, and exist in both the system and control input matrices. The dynamic output feedback is mainly dealt with. A necessary and sufficient condition for the uncertain multi-channel system to be stabilized robustly with a specified disturbance attenuation level is derived based on the bounded real lemma, which is reduced to a feasibility problem of a nonlinear matrix inequality (NMI). A two-stage homotopy method is used to solve the NMI iteratively. First, a decentralized controller for the nominal system with no uncertainty is computed by imposing structural constraints on the coefficient matrices of the controller gradually. Then the decentralized controller is modified, again gradually, to cope with the uncertainties. On each stage, a variable is fixed alternately at the iterations to reduce the NMI to a linear matrix inequality (LMI). A given example shows the efficiency of this method.

文摘Based on the Coriolis acceleration and the Lagrangian strain formula, a gen- eralized equation for the transverse vibration system of convection belts is derived using Newton's second law. The method of multiple scales is directly applied to the govern- ing equations, and an approximate solution of the primary parameter resonance of the system is obtained. The detuning parameter, cross-section area, elastic and viscoelastic parameters, and axial moving speed have a significant influences on the amplitudes of steady-state response and their existence boundaries. Some new dynamical phenomena are revealed.
