The evolution rules of temperature field at the interlayer with the cooling time of 10 s, 30 s and 50 s were obtained by the model. The WAAM experiment were performed by 5356 aluminum alloy welding wire with φ1.2 mm, and the simulated temperature field were varified by the thermocouple. The result shows that the highest temperature at the molten pool center increases with the increased interlayers at the same interlayer cooling time;the highest temperature drops gradually and the decline is smaller with the increased interlayer cooling time at the same layer. No remelting occurs at the top layer, and at least two remelting times occur in the other layers, resulting in complex temperature field evolution.展开更多

The microstructure and low-temperature impact fracture were investigated using a scanning electron microscope and a pendulum impact machine, respectively. Moreover, the relationship between cooling time ts/5 and the microstructure of CGHAZ was discussed, and the effect of microstructure on impact toughness was also studied. As cooling time increased, martensite fraction decreased from 97.8% (3 s) to 3.0% (60 s). The fraction of martensite/austenite (M/A) constituent increased from 2.2% (3 s) to 39.0% (60 s), its shape changed from granular to strip, and the maximum length increased from 2.4 μm (3 s) to 7.0 μm (60 s). As cooling time increased, the prior austenite grain size increased from 34.0 μm (3 s) to 49.0 gm (60 s), the impact absorption energy reduced from 101.8 J (5 s) to 7.2 J (60 s), and the fracture mechanism changed from quasi-cleavage fracture to cleavage fracture. The decreased toughness of CGHAZ was due to the reduction of lath martensite-content, coarsening of original austenite grain, and increase and coarsening of M/A constituent. The heat input was controlled under 7 kJ cm-1 during actual welding for these steels.展开更多

To investigate the strength and toughness of the heat-affected zone (HAZ) in twin wire SAW, the cooling time t8/5 of the coarse grained zone must be studied. The authors presented a method of predicting the cooling time in twin wire SAW of intermediate thickness plate. Based on Rosenthal analytical solutions, an energy factor was introduced to describe the energy contribution of the two wires, equations of thermal cycle and cooling time in twin wire SAW of both thick, and thin, plates were developed. Weighting factors determined by actual thickness and critical thickness were adopted to represent the thermal cycle and cooling time of intermediate thickness plate through linear interpolation with thick, and thin, plate solutions. The predicted cooling time for an intermediate thickness plate was verified experimentally, and the predicted results agreed therewith.展开更多

In welded joints, welding heat input, local preheat temperature, restraint intensity and additional stress induced by local preheating on cold cracking susceptibility of steels have been discussed. On the basis of the above research, the critical cooling time criterion tcr of domestic HSLA steels is established. This criterion is proved to be reliable in real application, and has important significance to assess whether the cold cracking occurs under conditions of welding process.展开更多

Therefore, it is possible to use TMF's ability for injection into and for escaping t^om the magmatic intrusion to evaluate its ore-forming potential. As the ore-bearing fluids cannot effectively inject into the magmatic intrusion when the magma fully crystal- lized, the cooling time and rates viscosity varied can be used to estimate the minimum critical thickness of the intrusion. One dimensional heat transfer model is used to determine the cooling time for three representative dikes of different composition (granite porphyry, quartz diorite and diabase) in the Shihu gold deposit. It also estimated the rates viscosity varied in these time interval. We took the thickness of dike at the intersection of the cooling time -- thickness curve and the rates viscosity varied versus thick- ness curve as the minimum critical thickness. For the ore-bearing fluids effectively injecting into the magma, the minimum critical thicknesses for the three representative dikes are 33.45 m for granite porphyry, 8.22 m for quartz diorite and 1.02 m for diabase, indicating that ore-bearing dikes must be thicker than each value. These results are consistent with the occurrence of ore bodies, and thus they could be applied in practice. Based on the statistical relationship between the length and the width of dikes, these critical thicknesses are used to compute critical areas: 0.0003--0.0016 km2 for diabase, 0.014--0.068 km2 for quartz diorite and 0.011-0.034 km2 for granite porphyry. This implies that ore- bearing minor intrusions have varied areas corresponding to their composition. The numerical simulation has provided the theoretical threshold of exposed thickness and area of the ore-bearing intrusion. These values can be used to determine the ore-forming potentials of dikes.展开更多

The optical microscope, TEM, SEM, EDAX and XRD analysis have been used to investigate the behaviors of second phase particles and the effects of microstructure on toughness separately. The results are as follows. The dispersed second phase particles can effectively retard the growth of austenite grain in the coarse grained HAZ (CGHAZ), and improve the toughness. When t 8/5 is different, the behaviors of the particles are also different in dissolving, coarsening and re precipitating. The ability of retarding the growth of austenite grain will be affected. When t 8/5 increases from 10 s to 70 s , the microstructure of CGHAZ will transform from upper bainite and granular bainite to granular bainite, and the size of austenite grain will grow a little, thus the toughness of the materials decreases slightly.展开更多
