Therefore, accurately predicting multi-hazard dynamic responses to super high-rise structures has significant engineering and scientific value. This study performed a parametric global sensitivity analysis (GSA) for multi-hazard dynamic response prediction of super high-rise structures using the multiple-degree-of-freedom shear (MFS) model. Polynomial chaos Kriging (PCK) was introduced to build a surrogate model that allowed GSA to be combined with Sobol’ indices. Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) is also conducted for the comparison to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the PCK method. Parametric sensitivity analysis is performed for a wide range of aleatory uncertainty (intensities of coupled multi-hazard), epistemic uncertainty (bending stiffness, k_(m);shear stiffness, kq;density, ρ;and damping ratio, ξ), probability distribution types, and coefficients of variation. The results indicate that epistemic uncertainty parameters, k_(m), ρ, and ξ dramatically affect the multi-hazard dynamic responses of super high-rise structures;in addition, Sobol’ indices between the normal and lognormal distributions are insignificant, while the variation levels have remarkably influenced the sensitivity indices.展开更多

Sensitivity ana...Parameter identification, model calibration, and uncertainty quantification are important steps in the model-building process, and are necessary for obtaining credible results and valuable information. Sensitivity analysis of hydrological model is a key step in model uncertainty quantification, which can identify the dominant parameters, reduce the model calibration uncertainty, and enhance the model optimization efficiency. There are, however, some shortcomings in classical approaches, including the long duration of time and high computation cost required to quantitatively assess the sensitivity of a multiple-parameter hydrological model. For this reason, a two-step statistical evaluation framework using global techniques is presented. It is based on (1) a screening method (Morris) for qualitative ranking of parameters, and (2) a variance-based method integrated with a meta-model for quantitative sensitivity analysis, i.e., the Sobol method integrated with the response surface model (RSMSobol). First, the Morris screening method was used to qualitatively identify the parameters' sensitivity, and then ten parameters were selected to quantify the sensitivity indices. Subsequently, the RSMSobol method was used to quantify the sensitivity, i.e., the first-order and total sensitivity indices based on the response surface model (RSM) were calculated. The RSMSobol method can not only quantify the sensitivity, but also reduce the computational cost, with good accuracy compared to the classical approaches. This approach will be effective and reliable in the global sensitivity analysis of a complex large-scale distributed hydrological model.展开更多

The sensitivity gradient of simulation error dry energy with respect to initial analysis is calculated. And after verifying the ability of a tangent linear and adjoint model to describe small perturbations in the nonlinear model, the sensitivity gradient analysis is implemented in detail. The sensitivity gradient with respect to different physical fields are not uniform in intensity, simulation error is most sensitive to the vapor mixed ratio. The localization and consistency are obvious characters of horizontal distribution of the sensitivity gradient, which is useful for the practical implementation of adaptive observation. The sensitivity region tilts to the northwest with height increasing; the singular vector calculation proves that this tilting characterizes a quick-growing structure, which denotes that using the leading singular vectors to decide the adaptive observation region is proper. When connected with simulation of a mesoscale low on the mei-yu Front, the sensitivity gradient has the following physical characters: the obvious sensitive region is mesoscale, concentrated in the middle-upper troposphere, and locates around the key system; and the sensitivity gradient of different physical fields correlates dynamically.展开更多

However, there may exist complex interaction between parameters and practical engineering system. With the increase of the number of parameters, it is getting hard to determine high-dimensional curves and robust control methods, thus it's difficult to get the robust design solutions. In this paper, a method of global sensitivity analysis based on divided variables in groups is proposed. By making relevant variables in one group and keeping each other independent among sets of variables, global sensitivity analysis is conducted in grouped variables and the importance of parameters is evaluated by calculating the contribution value of each parameter to the total variance of system response. By ranking the importance of input parameters, relatively important parameters are chosen to conduct robust design analysis of the system. By applying this method to the robust optimization design of a real complex nonlinear system-a vehicle occupant restraint system with multi-parameter, good solution is gained and the response variance of the objective function is reduced to 0.01, which indicates that the robustness of the occupant restraint system is improved in a great degree and the method is effective and valuable for the robust design of complex nonlinear system. This research proposes a new method which can be used to obtain solutions for complex nonlinear system robust design.展开更多

Heat transfer analysis is very important for the prediction and prevention of deposits in oil and water flowlines, which could impede the flow and give rise to huge financial losses. Therefore, a 3D mathematical model of oil-water Newtonian flow under non-isothermal conditions is established to explore the complex mechanisms of the two-phase oil-water transportation and heat transfer in different flowline inclinations. In this work, a non-isothermal two-phase flow model is first modified and then implemented in the InterFoam solver by introducing the energy equation using OpenFOAM® code. The Low Reynolds Number (LRN) k-ε turbulence model is utilized to resolve the turbulence phenomena within the oil and water mixtures. The flow patterns and the local heat transfer coefficients (HTC) for two-phase oil-water flow at different flowlines inclinations (0°, +4°, +7°) are validated by the experimental literature results and the relative errors are also compared. Global sensitivity analysis is then conducted to determine the effect of the different parameters on the performance of the produced two-phase hydrocarbon systems for effective subsea fluid transportation. Thereafter, HTC and flow patterns for oil-water flows at downward inclinations of 4°, and 7° can be predicted by the models. The velocity distribution, pressure gradient, liquid holdup, and temperature variation at the flowline cross-sections are simulated and analyzed in detail. Consequently, the numerical model can be generally applied to compute the global properties of the fluid and other operating parameters that are beneficial in the management of two-phase oil-water transportation.展开更多

Howev...Surrogate models are usually used to perform global sensitivity analysis (GSA) by avoiding a large ensemble of deterministic simulations of the Monte Carlo method to provide a reliable estimate of GSA indices. However, most surrogate models such as polynomial chaos (PC) expansions suffer from the curse of dimensionality due to the high-dimensional input space. Thus, sparse surrogate models have been proposed to alleviate the curse of dimensionality. In this paper, three techniques of sparse reconstruc- tion are used to construct sparse PC expansions that are easily applicable to computing variance-based sensitivity indices (Sobol indices). These are orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP), spectral projected gradient for L1 minimization (SPGL1), and Bayesian compressive sensing with Laplace priors. By computing Sobol indices for several benchmark response models including the Sobol function, the Morris function, and the Sod shock tube problem, effective implementations of high-dimensional sparse surrogate construction are exhibited for GSA.展开更多

According to the fuzzy random theory, the fuzzy failure state is transformed into an equivalent new random variable for the system, and the complementary function of the membership function of the fuzzy failure state is defined as the cumulative distribution function(CDF) of the new random variable. After introducing the new random variable, the equivalent performance function of the original problem is built. The difference between the unconditional fuzzy probability of failure and conditional fuzzy probability of failure is defined as the moment-independent GSA index. In order to solve the proposed GSA index efficiently, the Kriging-based algorithm is developed to estimate the defined moment-independence GSA index. Two engineering examples are employed to verify the feasibility and rationality of the presented GSA model, and the advantages of the developed Kriging method are also illustrated.展开更多

文摘Roll coating is a vital industrial process used in printing, packaging, and polymer film production, where maintaining a uniform coating is critical for product quality and efficiency. This work models non-isothermal Carreau fluid flow between a rotating roll and a stationary wall under fixed boundary constraints to evaluate how non-Newtonian and thermal effects influence coating performance. The governing equations are transformed into non-dimensional form and simplified using lubrication approximation theory.Approximate analytical solutions are obtained via the perturbation technique, while numerical results are computed using both the finite difference method and the BVPMidrich technique.Furthermore,Response surface methodology(RSM)is employed for optimization and sensitivity analysis.Analytical and numerical results show strong agreement(<1%deviation).The model predicts coating thickness 0.55≤λ≤0.64,power input 1.05≤P_(w)≤1.99,and separation force 0.91≤S_(f)≤1.82 for 0.1≤We≤0.9 and 0.01≤F≤0.09.Increasing We enhances the coating thickness and power input but reduces velocity and separation force. The findings provide physical insight into elastic and viscous effects in roll coating, providing insight for optimizing coating uniformity, minimizing wear, improving industrial coating processes, and extending substrate lifespan.

文摘This paper aims to solve the resonance failure probability and develop an effective method to estimate the effects of variables and failure modes on failure probability of axially functionally graded material(FGM)pipe conveying fluid.Correspondingly, the natural frequency of axially FGM pipes conveying fluid is calculated using the differential quadrature method(DQM).A variable sensitivity analysis(VSA)is introduced to measure the effect of each random variable, and a mode sensitivity analysis(MSA)is introduced to acquire the importance ranking of failure modes. Then,an active learning Kriging(ALK)method is established to calculate the resonance failure probability and sensitivity indices, which greatly improves the application of resonance reliability analysis for pipelines in engineering practice.Based on the resonance reliability analysis method, the effects of fluid velocity, volume fraction and fluid density of axially FGM pipe conveying fluid on resonance reliability are analyzed. The results demonstrate that the proposed method has great performance in the anti-resonance analysis of pipes conveying fluid.

文摘In the field of rail transit, the UK Department of Transport stated that it will realize a comprehensive transformation of UK railways by 2050,abandoning traditional diesel trains and upgrading them to new environmentally friendly trains. The current mainstream upgrade methods are electrification and hydrogen fuel cells.Comprehensive upgrades are costly, and choosing the optimal upgrade method for trams and mainline railways is critical.Without a sensitivity analysis,it is difficult for us to determine the influence relationship between each parameter and cost, resulting in a waste of cost when choosing a line reconstruction method. In addition,by analyzing the sensitivity of different parameters to the cost, the primary optimization direction can be determined to reduce the cost.Global higher-order sensitivity analysis enables quantification of parameter interactions, showing non-additive effects between parameters. This paper selects the main parameters that affect the retrofit cost and analyzes the retrofit cost of the two upgrade methods in the case of trams and mainline railways through local and global sensitivity analysis methods. The results of the analysis show that, given the current UK rail system,it is more economical to choose electric trams and hydrogen mainline trains. For trams, the speed at which the train travels has the greatest impact on the final cost.Through the sensitivity analysis, this paper provides an effective data reference for the current railway upgrading and reconstruction plan and provides a theoretical basis for the next step of train parameter optimization.

文摘Parameter identification, model calibration, and uncertainty quantification are important steps in the model-building process, and are necessary for obtaining credible results and valuable information. This approach will be effective and reliable in the global sensitivity analysis of a complex large-scale distributed hydrological model.

文摘The nonlinear finite element(FE) analysis has been widely used in the design and analysis of structural or geotechnical systems. The response sensitivities(or gradients) to the model parameters are of significant importance in these realistic engineering problems. However the sensitivity calculation has lagged behind, leaving a gap between advanced FE response analysis and other research hotspots using the response gradient. The response sensitivity analysis is crucial for any gradient-based algorithms, such as reliability analysis, system identification and structural optimization.Among various sensitivity analysis methods, the direct differential method(DDM) has advantages of computing efficiency and accuracy, providing an ideal tool for the response gradient calculation. This paper extended the DDM framework to realistic complicated soil-foundation-structure interaction(SFSI) models by developing the response gradients for various constraints, element and materials involved. The enhanced framework is applied to three-dimensional SFSI system prototypes for a pilesupported bridge pier and a pile-supported reinforced concrete building frame structure, subjected to earthquake loading conditions. The DDM results are verified by forward finite difference method(FFD).The relative importance(RI) of the various material parameters on the responses of SFSI system are investigated based on the DDM response sensitivity results. The FFD converges asymptotically toward the DDM results, demonstrating the advantages of DDM(e.g.,accurate,efficient,insensitive to numerical noise).Furthermore, the RI and effects of the model parameters of structure, foundation and soil materials on the responses of SFSI systems are investigated by taking advantage of the sensitivity analysis results. The extension of DDM to SFSI systems greatly broaden the application areas of the d gradient-based algorithms,e.g.FE model updating and nonlinear system identification of complicated SFSI systems.

文摘An adjoint sensitivity analysis of one mesoscale low on the mei-yu Front is presented in this paper. When connected with simulation of a mesoscale low on the mei-yu Front, the sensitivity gradient has the following physical characters: the obvious sensitive region is mesoscale, concentrated in the middle-upper troposphere, and locates around the key system; and the sensitivity gradient of different physical fields correlates dynamically.

文摘The current research of complex nonlinear system robust optimization mainly focuses on the features of design parameters, such as probability density functions, boundary conditions, etc. After parameters study, high-dimensional curve or robust control design is used to find an accurate robust solution. This research proposes a new method which can be used to obtain solutions for complex nonlinear system robust design.
文摘Estimating the oil-water temperatures in flowlines is challenging especially in deepwater and ultra-deepwater offshore applications where issues of flow assurance and dramatic heat transfer are likely to occur due to the temperature difference between the fluids and the surroundings. Consequently, the numerical model can be generally applied to compute the global properties of the fluid and other operating parameters that are beneficial in the management of two-phase oil-water transportation.

文摘Traditional Global Sensitivity Analysis(GSA) focuses on ranking inputs according to their contributions to the output uncertainty. However, information about how the specific regions inside an input affect the output is beyond the traditional GSA techniques. To fully address this issue,in this work, two regional moment-independent importance measures,Regional Importance Measure based on Probability Density Function(RIMPDF) and Regional Importance Measure based on Cumulative Distribution Function(RIMCDF),are introduced to find out the contributions of specific regions of an input to the whole output distribution. The two regional importance measures prove to be reasonable supplements of the traditional GSA techniques. The ideas of RIMPDF and RIMCDF are applied in two engineering examples to demonstrate that the regional moment-independent importance analysis can add more information concerning the contributions of model inputs.

文摘Surrogate models are usually used to perform global sensitivity analysis (GSA) by avoiding a large ensemble of deterministic simulations of the Monte Carlo method to provide a reliable estimate of GSA indices. By computing Sobol indices for several benchmark response models including the Sobol function, the Morris function, and the Sod shock tube problem, effective implementations of high-dimensional sparse surrogate construction are exhibited for GSA.

文摘For the system with the fuzzy failure state, the effects of the input random variables and the fuzzy failure state on the fuzzy probability of failure for the structural system are studied, and the moment-independence global sensitivity analysis(GSA) model is proposed to quantitatively measure these effects. Two engineering examples are employed to verify the feasibility and rationality of the presented GSA model, and the advantages of the developed Kriging method are also illustrated.
