In recent years,gig economy jobs-particularly those of food delivery and ride-hailing drivers-have rapidly emerged as a significant force in the labor market,reflecting the deep integration of China’s digital and real economies.This paper examines how digital platforms that support the gig economy exercise directionality and dominance in labor matching,where the platform dictates which consumers workers serve,rather than allowing independent choice.While this platform-led matching may appear to limit consumer and worker autonomy,it actually arises from the platform’s central role in information flow and its technological capabilities,serving as a foundation for the platform’s ability to create large-scale employment through cross-side network effects.Using a theoretical model that integrates digital platforms,labor markets,and product markets,the paper explores how the efficiency of targeted matching affects employment creation.In the early stages of gig economy development,when targeted matching efficiency is low,improvements in assignment efficiency lead to a net increase in gig employment,worker income,and overall social welfare.However,in the later stages,as targeted matching efficiency improves,the potential for monopoly abuse by incumbent platforms may trigger a crowding-out effect,leading to unemployment,income inequality between platforms and workers,and higher commission fees.While fostering competition within platform markets offers benefits,policymakers should avoid excessively low entry barriers,as these can negatively impact incumbent platforms’decisions regarding labor,pricing,and technology investment. 展开更多

Under the impetus of the“Dual Credit”policy,traditional fuel vehicle manufacturers are confronted with significant pressure to meet new energy vehicle credit requirements.To address this challenge,these manufacturers are increasingly adopting the Original Design Manufacturer(ODM)strategy to collaborate with new energy vehicle enterprises,thereby acquiring credits and expanding their market presence.However,this strategic approach not only intensifies competition between new energy and traditional fuel vehicle markets but also reshapes the profit distribution between the two types of firms.Drawing upon the framework of the Dual Credit policy,this study establishes a Cournot game model to examine the strategic interactions between traditional fuel vehicle manufacturers and new energy vehicle producers.It further investigates the optimal production decisions under the ODM strategy and evaluates their implications for market dynamics and corporate profitability.The findings reveal that,although the ODM strategy heightens market competition,it leads to substantial profit improvements for both types of manufacturers compared to the alternative of directly purchasing credits,while also fostering the growth of the new energy vehicle sector.Moreover,the Case study demonstrates micro-level impact of the dual credit policy on enterprises’response strategies,offering valuable insights for policymakers and industry decision-makers. 展开更多

The issue of agricultural insurance subsidy is discussed in this paper aiming to make it provided more rationally and sci- entifically. It is started with the connection between agricultural insurance and financial subsidy. It is really necessary and crucial to implement the financial insurance due to the bad operational performance, especially in the developing countries. But the sub- sidy should be provided more rationally because financial subsidy has lots of negative effects. A model in competitive insurance markets developed by Ahsan et al (1982) and a farmers' decision model are developed to solve the optimal subsidized rate. Finally, the equation is got to calculate it. But a quantitative subsidized rate is not made here because the calculation should be under some restricted conditions, which are always absent in the devel- oping countries. So the government should provide some subsidy for the ex ante research and preparation to get the scientific prob- ability and premium rate. 展开更多

This paper explores the incentives of investment in renewable energy of two utility firms who compete or cooperate under either a cap-and-trade grandfathering mechanism(GM)or benchmarking mechanism(BM).We find that utility firms will invest in renewable energy more under BM than under GM,in both competitive and cooperative markets,and they will invest more in a competitive market than in a cooperative market,under either GM or BM.Furthermore,utility firms will produce more electricity and generate more total carbon emissions under BM than under GM.The profits of two firms,however,are higher in cooperative market than in competitive market.The government will benefit from implementing a BM to encourage utility firms to invest in renewable energy in a competing market. 展开更多

The Association Between Corporate Governance Mechanisms and Stock Investment Risk: Empirical Evidence From Thailand

This study examines the association between corporate governance mechanisms (i.e., internal corporate governance, ownership structure, and external corporate govemance) and stock investment risk (i.e., idiosyncratic risk, systematic risk, and total risk of non-financial listed firms in Thailand in 2007). The multiple regression analysis is employed to test the hypotheses, and the results suggest that firms with higher market power have lower systematic risk. It implies that firms with higher market power can reduce the unavoidable risk when compared with firms that have lower market power. Firms with more media coverage will have higher systematic risk, which indicates that firms which publish more news will have higher unavoidable risk. This research may be the first to provide the evidence of the association between corporate govemance mechanisms and stock investment risk. Interestingly still, this study has utilized the data of Thailand, which is an emerging market economy with a capital market structure different from those of the developed market economies, and the results of this study are anticipated to be applicable to other similar studies in other emerging market economies. 展开更多

The rise of digital radio and television represents a mixed picture, in part because of politicalpressures, but the digital transition between federal and regional media is not synchronized;on the other hand, theRussian print media market has suffered from poor returns and high costs since 2012. Insufficient facilities withpoor quality and lack of advertisement revenues have made it difficult for print media to survive. The governmenthas provided financial subsidies for media, but it will still support economic independence of media. Thegovernment has strictly regulated foreign investments after 2014, which ensure the concentration of mediaownership but reduced the media market’s competitiveness. Now the Russian government is adjusting policies,seeking ways to balance media market competition and retaining political control of media. 展开更多
