Bridging the Gap:Aligning Communicative Language Testing Principles with AI-Driven Assessment in Civil Aviation Ground Service English

The integration of Communicative Language Testing(CLT)principles with AI-driven automated assessment poses a significant challenge in professional language testing.Addressing this issue within the specific context of Civil Aviation Ground Service English,this study explores pathways for their logical reconciliation.Through conceptual analysis and theoretical deduction,with a focus on human-AI interaction scenarios,we demonstrate that the synergy between CLT and AI stems from a shared focus on competency measurement.Key findings reveal that:(1)standardized competency dimensions in CLT can be operationalized into data-processable formats for AI;(2)within professional contexts,AI algorithms can be tailored using authentic service corpora to meet CLT’s demand for situational authenticity;and(3)a division of labor based on competency level-where AI handles standardized scoring of lower-order competencies and human-AI collaboration assesses higher-order competencies-effectively resolves the tension between CLT’s dynamic communication and AI’s static algorithms.Ultimately,the study constructs a three-dimensional integration framework encompassing“professional register,”“competency level,”and“human-AI division of labor,”offering a theoretical model for CLT-AI integration and a practical blueprint for innovating Civil Aviation Ground Service English assessment. 展开更多

The traditional ways of teaching in China put emphasis on the development of reading and grammar.So students are famous for their high marks in reading and low marks in listening,and lack of communicative competence.To solve this problem,this study introduces Communicative Approach(CA) to the English listening class.In order to investigate the effects of the CA on students' listening abilities further,a 18-week comparative study on two classes is conducted.The data show that students' listening abilities and attitudes in the CA class is significantly higher and more positive than those in the traditional class,which indicates that CA is an effective approach in improving students' listening abilities compared to the traditional approach. 展开更多

As we know, an important object for English learners is to improve their communicati... Nowadays, English as a world language becomes more and more important. Consequently, English learning becomes more and more popular. As we know, an important object for English learners is to improve their communicative competence. So autonomous learning is a good way to improve communicative competence. In this paper, two terms, autonomous learning and communicative competence, and their relationship will be introduced from the perspective of English learning. Autonomous learning is self-managed learning, which is contrary to passive learning and mechanical learning, according to intrinsic property of language learning. Communicative competence is a concept introduced by Dell Hymes and is discussed and refined by many other linguists. According to Hymes, communicative competence is the ability not only to apply the grammatical rules of language in order to form grammatically correct sentences but also to know when and where to use these sentences and to whom. Communicative competence includes 4 aspects: Possibility, feasibility, appropriateness and performance. Improving communicative competence is the result of autonomous learning, autonomous learning is the motivation of improving communicative competence. English, of course, is a bridge connecting China to the world, and fostering students'communicative competence through autonomous learning is the vital element of improving English learning in China. 展开更多
