Basic communication standards that we rely upon reduce friction for consumers,customers and businesses,speed innovation and allow for cross-border collaboration among companies.That is critical for establishing global baselines of trust.What standards can do that politics cannot is to bring people together,encourage collaboration,and encourage trusting relationships and the ability to share and develop interoperable communication systems.Today we are building roads that lead to quantum technologies,artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies,but the rules of those roads are yet to be written.The industry has an important role to play in developing rules of the road.Those rules need to start with a very basic foundation,such as data identification secured by design standards,standards for privacy protection,and watermarking,tracing and accountability of AI technologies and algorithms.These are all very achievable objectives,and they form together a foundation of trust that customers and governments worldwide can rely upon. 展开更多

In the past decade,several efforts around the world were started with the goal of introducing "smart metering" capabilities into the power grid.These efforts have spurred renewed interest in the design of next generation Narrowband Power Line Communications(NB-PLC) transceivers.In the past few years,ITU-T and IEEE have standardized a family of next generation OFDM-based NB-PLC transceivers some of which are today being considered for massive deployments in Europe and Asia.This paper addresses the important role that PLC has not only for smart metering but also for many other Smart Grid applications,and also gives an overview of the main differences between these next generation NB-PLC standards. 展开更多

Therefore, they are likely to affect strategic competence and customer orientation skills of organizations. In this research, customer orientation and strategic competence are undertaken in relation with servant leadership and service standards communication, using a sample of 106 Turkish firms' executive assistants. The results prove that service standards communication and servant leadership have a strong positive relationship with both strategic competence and customer orientation. 展开更多

Objective: to analyze the application of standardized communication model in emergency department safety management. Methods: 100 patients admitted to the emergency department of our hospital from January 2019 to December 2019 were selected as the control group, and 102 patients admitted to the emergency department of our hospital from January 2020 to December 2020 were selected as the observation group. The control group received routine emergency department safety management, while the observation group applied standardized communication model on the basis of the control group. The incidence rate and satisfaction of adverse events caused by communication barriers were compared between the two groups. Results: there was a significant difference in the incidence of adverse events caused by communication disorders between the two groups. The incidence rate in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). There was a significant difference in satisfaction between the two groups. The incidence rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: the standardized communication model can play an important role in the safety management of emergency department, and can improve patient satisfaction, which is worthy of further promotion. 展开更多

The present-day power system is a complex network that caters to the demands of several applications with diverse energy requirements.Such a complex network is susceptible to faults caused due to several reasons such as the failure of the equipment,hostile weather conditions,etc.These faults if not detected in the real-time may lead to cascading failures resulting in a blackout.These blackouts have catastrophic consequences which result in a huge loss of resources.For example,a blackout in 2004 caused an economic loss of 10 billion U.S dollars as per the report of the Electricity Consumers Resource Council.Subsequent investigation of the blackout revealed that the catastrophe could have been prevented if there was an early warning system.Similar other blackouts across the globe forced the power system engineers to devise an effective solution for real-time monitoring and control of the power system.The consequence of these efforts is the wide area measurement system(WAMS).The WAMS consists of several sensors known as the phasor measurement units(PMUs)that collect the real information pertaining to the health of the power grid.This information in the form time synchronized voltage and current phasors is communicated to the central control center or the phasor data concentrator(PDC)where the data is analyzed for detection of power system anomalies.The communication of the synchrophasor data from each PMU to the PDC constitutes the synchrophasor communication system(SPCS).Thus,the SPCS can be considered as the edifice of the WAMS and its reliable operation is essential for the effective monitoring and control of the power system.This paper presents a comprehensive review of the various synchrophasor communication technologies,communication standards and applications.It also identifies the existing knowledge gaps and the scope for future research work. 展开更多

Pilot-reference-free continuous-variable quantum key distribution with efficient decoy-state analysis

Continuous-variable quantum key distribution(CV QKD)using optical coherent detectors is practically favorable due to its low implementation cost,flexibility of wavelength division multiplexing,and compatibility with standard coherent communication technologies.However,the security analysis and parameter estimation of CV QKD are complicated due to the infinite-dimensional latent Hilbert space.Also,the transmission of strong reference pulses undermines the security and complicates the experiments.In this work,we tackle these two problems by presenting a time-bin-encoding CV protocol with a simple phase-error-based security analysis valid under general coherent attacks.With the key encoded into the relative intensity between two optical modes,the need for global references is removed.Furthermore,phase randomization can be introduced to decouple the security analysis of different photon-number components.We can hence tag the photon number for each round,effectively estimate the associated privacy using a carefully designed coherent-detection method,and independently extract encryption keys from each component.Simulations manifest that the protocol using multi-photon components increases the key rate by two orders of magnitude compared to the one using only the single-photon component.Meanwhile,the protocol with four-intensity decoy analysis is sufficient to yield tight parameter estimation with a short-distance key-rate performance comparable to the best Bennett-Brassard-1984 implementation. 展开更多
