In 2006, China issued its National Plans for Medium and Long-term Development of Science and Technology (2006-2020) (NPMLDST). Since 2006, there has been a rapid increase in the number of citations of China's interna- tional papers in the field of communications. In accordance with the goals listed in the NPMLDST, China needs to over- take several competitors by 2020 to be among the top five countries in the field of natural science field. By comparing two Essential Science Indicators (ESI) (i.e., the total number of citations and the number of citations per paper) for China and other countries, China's annual growth rate is found to exceed that of other influential countries in the field of sci- ence and technology, and exhibits evident growth-type characteristics. Besides, our study also shows that the short- age of high-quality academic papers in China is the main obstacle to improving the impact of China's academic publications.展开更多

Our empirical analysis utilized personal interviews, archive documents, and statistical data. Four main processes were discerned: transition from integration to alienation between institutions of higher learning and the larger political and ideological context; a shift from Hebrew University Institute of Communication's institutional monopoly to a multiplicity of increasingly competitive communication schools/departments; transition from intellectual hegemony to limited intellectual diversity; and gradually improving status for the communication field among social science disciplines. Our case-study analysis validated the interactive relationship among the model's conceptual dimensions, calling for future cross-national comparisons.展开更多

It was developed via the collaboration between two research labs of Sapienza University of Rome: the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Lab and the Usability and Accessibility Lab (LUA), both belonging to CATTID (Centre for Applications of Teleservices and of Technologies for Innovation in Digital world) research centre. Technically, SIMpliLife is a SIM-based platform for NFC mobile phones that interfaces several applications able to manage the abovementioned services. It also demonstrates how important it is to choose the models type adequate to the systems under research. It also introduces an explication of the possibility to create the model of information and communication interactions that can illustrate transmission of information between two and more individuals. Methods and approaches suggested in this paper allow us to compare different levels of the described processes depending on the chosen architecture of the model; the methods and approaches mentioned in the current work can be also used to simulate the processes of distortion and generation of information images while information and communication social interaction. The hierarchy of information images in an individual mind, which determines his/her real and virtual activity, is considered. Algo- rithms for describing transfer and distortion of information images by individuals in the communication process are constructed. To corroborate the theory experimentally, the bilingual Stroop test is used. The results of the test are interpreted using the introduced theory, and are then compared with the results of computer modeling based on the theory. It is shown that information images can be used not only to explain a number of cognitive processes of the human mind, but also to predict their dynamics in a number of particular cases.展开更多
