In the present study, Citrus maxima essential crude oil extract was used to prepare combinatorial formulations and workers of Indian white termite Odontotermes obesus were treated topically with 40% and 80% of 24 hr LD50 values of these formulations. In subsequent bioassays levels of various enzymes i.e. alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, glutamate pyruvate transaminase and acetylcholinesterase were evaluated to determine the anti-termite efficacy of Citrus maxima essential oil based combinatorial formulations. S-RET-A, S-RET-B and S-RET-C caused significant (p > 0.05) decrease in glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase i.e. 87.47%, 86.81% and 81.77% & 82.04%, 79.39% and 74.75% respectively at 16 h treatment. In vivo exposure of 40% and 80% of LD50 of combinatorial formulations caused very significant (p > 0.05) reduction in all the test enzymes i.e. alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase and glutamate pyruvate transaminase expect acetylcholinesterase levels after 16 h all tested treatments in comparison to control. Both dose-response and time period were found important in physiological alteration in levels of various enzymes. Combinatorial mixtures of Citrus essential oils have shown synergistic activity against termites. The research findings of the present study would help termite control in crop fields, gardens and houses in a sustainable way. 展开更多

Essential oils are better alternative for synthetic termiticides with the inherent resistance by insects, environmental and health effects on humans. In present investigation, various bio-molecules i.e. glycogen, protein, amino acid, DNA, RNA and lipid were evaluated to determine the anti-termite efficacy of Citrus maxima essential oil based combinatorial formulations against Indian white termite Odontotermes obesus. For this purpose, termites were treated topically with 40% and 80% of 24 hr LD50 values of various combinatorial formulations. A significant (p > 0.05) alteration was noted in all the above biomolecules at various time intervals. Both dose response and time period was found important in physiological alteration in levels of various bio-molecules. Combinatorial mixtures of Citrus essential oils have shown synergistic activity against termites. The research outcomes of present investigation would help to open sustainable way to termite control in crop field, gardens and houses. 展开更多

The present investigation is aimed to evaluate the hepatoprotective effects of Citrus hystrix and Citrus maxima(Red and White variety)methanolic leaf extracts on paracetamol induced toxicity.Leaf extracts were given in the dose of 200 mg/kg body weight for 7 days and toxicity was induced by paracetamol(2 g/kg)on day 5.Silymarin(100 mg/kg body weight)was used as reference standard. On the 7th day animals were sacrificed and liver function markers(ALT,AST,ALP),total bilirubin and total protein in blood serums and hepatic antioxidants(SOD,CAT,GSH and GPx)in liver homogenate were estimated. The leaf extracts restored the liver function markers and hepatic antioxidants to the normal level than elevated levels noticed on paracetamol control at P<0.001.Reversal of hepatoarchitecture has also been registered. The present study shows that C.hystrix and C.maxima leaf extracts possess hepatoprotective action against paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity.©2015 Beijing Academy of Food Sciences.Production and hosting by Elsevier B.V.All rights reserved. 展开更多

Objective:In this study, black tea and Citrus maxima(BT-CM),yellow tea and C.maxima(YT-CM),green tea and C.maxima(GT-CM)as subjects, the active ingredient content and antioxidant activity of three tea and C.maxima(T-CM)were analyzed. The effects of three T-CMs on apoptosis of liver cells in vitro and its mechanism were further explored. Methods:National standard method and HPLC were used for active ingredient analysis.MTT,cell fow cytometry and Western blot were used to analyze the effects of three T-CMs on cell proliferation, apoptosis, and its underlying molecular mechanism. Results:The content of tea polyphenols, free amino acids, ratio of polyphenols and amino acids, ester catechins,non-ester catechins and caffeine in YT-CM and GT-CM was significantly higher than that of BT-CM.The in vitro antioxidant capacity of YT-CM and GT-CM was also significantly stronger than that of BT-CM.Three T-CMs had the effects of inhibiting proliferation, arresting cell cycle and inducing apoptosis in HepG2 and Bel7402 cells, especially YT-CM and GT-CM.Western blot analysis showed three T-CMs activated PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway and regulated the expression levels of apoptosis-related proteins Bax,Bcl-2 and Caspase-3/9.YT-CM and GT-CM had better ability to change the signal pathway than BT-CM.Conclusion:In short,T-CMs,which combined different degrees of fermentation tea with C.maxima, were rich in nutrients and biologically active substances.T-CMs,especially YT-CM and GT-CM,are healthy drinks that help to prevent and treat liver cancer. 展开更多
