The circular economy(CE)presents a promising approach to integrating industry with sustainability and circularity,which helps minimize ecological harm and preserve natural resources for future generations.This study f...The circular economy(CE)presents a promising approach to integrating industry with sustainability and circularity,which helps minimize ecological harm and preserve natural resources for future generations.This study focused on the roles of nuclear energy,renewables,and climate policies in advancing a CE.It examined the intentions of OECD countries regarding CE practices and the various factors influencing these intentions from 2000 to 2019.This study utilized second-generation panel data tools,such as slope homogeneity and stationarity tests,to assess cross-sectional dependence and heterogeneity in the panel dataset.The study employed the moment quantile regression(MM-QR)method to obtain regression estimates and analyze the conditional distribution across all quantiles.The findings indicated that the role of nuclear energy in promoting CE was negative across all quantiles.In contrast,renewable energy positively supports achieving CE in OECD countries.Climate policies assisted OECD countries in progressing toward CE in both the nuclear energy and renewable energy models.We conducted a robust check using a non-parametric panel Granger causality test,which confirmed the expected results for all other factors.The collaborative efforts for waste minimization ensure that nuclear energy systems are resilient,economically feasible,and environmentally sustainable.展开更多
Sustainable alternatives have grown more prevalent due to an urgent need to address climate change,environmental degradation,and the depletion of non-renewable resources.As an inexhaustible and renewable resource,biom...Sustainable alternatives have grown more prevalent due to an urgent need to address climate change,environmental degradation,and the depletion of non-renewable resources.As an inexhaustible and renewable resource,biomass has become an attractive option for energy production within the framework of a circular economy that emphasizes resource efficiency and environmental sustainability.Various kinds and sources of biomass,from forestry waste and agricultural residue to animal dung and microalgae,are fully explored in this mini review,along with their potential for biofuel production in both developed and developing countries.The processes for thermochemical and biochemical conversion,the sustainability of using biomass,and the socioeconomic advantages,especially for African countries,are highlighted.Key case studies demonstrating the value and potential of biomass waste in promoting sustainable energy transitions worldwide are also discussed in this review.Despite its potential,the use of biomass is restricted due to challenges including low conversion efficiency,high transportation costs,seasonal variability,and insufficient advancements in technology.Nonetheless,biomass offers an innovative approach for developing an environmentally friendly,efficient,and low-carbon economy that promotes sustainable development and energy security.Holistic approaches,such as increased regional cooperation,capacity building,technical innovation,and policy reform,must be implemented to address existing challenges.展开更多

During the production of palm oil,a significant amount of waste is generated.However,because of inefficient handling and utilization,these wastes are becoming a larger issue.As a result,one initiative is to use these ...During the production of palm oil,a significant amount of waste is generated.However,because of inefficient handling and utilization,these wastes are becoming a larger issue.As a result,one initiative is to use these wastes in the pavement industry as sustainable materials.However,there is still a lack of understanding about the wider incorporation of palm oil waste in asphalt pavement and its performance.This study examines existing literature on the use of various wastes in the pavement industry,including palm oil clinker(POC),palm oil fibre(POF),palm kernel shell(PKS),and palm oil fuel ash(POFA).As a result,this paper presents a systematic review and scientometric investigation of related study publications on many uses of palm oil waste in the asphalt pavement industry and its performance from 2009 to 2022.The VOS viewer application was used to conduct the sciento-metric study analysis.The relationship between interactions detected in co-authored country studies cited sources of co-citation,and the keyword of the co-occurrence and publication source enabled the identification of the research gap.According to the systematic literature review,40%–60% POC can be used to fine aggregate for optimal performance,while 0–100%PKS can be used to replace coarse aggregate.In addition,50%–80% POFA or POC fine(POCF)can be used as a filler replacement,5%–8% POCF or POFA as a bitumen modifier,and 0.3% POF as a stabilizing additive.Furthermore,the study demonstrates that the safety of utilizing wastes with more than 50% CO_(2) emissions can be curtailed with minimal heavy metal leaching and radioactivity levels.The scientometric analysis may encourage researchers to seek out gaps in the literature that will aid in the long-term,multifaceted use of palm oil wastes in the asphalt pavement industry.Furthermore,the study recommends employing and researching the enormous potential of using palm oil waste in the pavement sectors because they are more sustainable and have better performance.However,there are some barriers to using palm oil waste in the asphalt pavement industry,such as a lack of design standards and guidelines,inefficient raw material pro-cessing conversion facilities,and large-scale production equipment.展开更多

文摘The sustainable production of green hydrogen via water electrolysis necessitates cost-effective electrocatalysts.By following the circular economy principle,the utilization of waste-derived catalysts significantly promotes the sustainable development of green hydrogen energy.Currently,diverse waste-derived catalysts have exhibited excellent catalytic performance toward hydrogen evolution reaction(HER),oxygen evolution reaction(OER),and overall water electrolysis(OWE).Herein,we systematically examine recent achievements in waste-derived electrocatalysts for water electrolysis.The general principles of water electrolysis and design principles of efficient electrocatalysts are discussed,followed by the illustration of current strategies for transforming wastes into electrocatalysts.Then,applications of waste-derived catalysts(i.e.,carbon-based catalysts,transitional metal-based catalysts,and carbon-based heterostructure catalysts)in HER,OER,and OWE are reviewed successively.An emphasis is put on correlating the catalysts’structure-performance relationship.Also,challenges and research directions in this booming field are finally highlighted.This review would provide useful insights into the design,synthesis,and applications of waste-derived electrocatalysts,and thus accelerate the development of the circular economy-driven green hydrogen energy scheme.
文摘The connotation and development of circular economy and circular agriculture are illustrated from the perspective of circular economy.Take the duplicable Sino-Singapore Eco-City in Tianjin as a case to analyze the background,significance and features of building Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City and point out the sustainable developmental orientation of the"three harmony and three capabilities"as well as its inspiration on the development of Tianjin urban agriculture from the aspects of water-saving,land-saving and energy-saving.Under the direction of circular economy theory,the enhancement of economical utilization of agricultural resources and resource utilization of agricultural wastes has positive effects on improving urban environment:decentralize organic solid wastes from sewage cycle system;further study the physiological and biochemical mechanism of increasing yield and income of ecological agriculture;bring urban agriculture into city land utilization planning and city development planning.
文摘Achieving sustainable patterns of consumption and production is perhaps the biggest challenge facing our society today. The de-mand for more safe environmentally benign products is rising and many companies are looking for new ways to progressively improve the sus-tainability of their products. Moreover, there are numerous opportunities and countless innovations, technological as well as non-technologi-cal,that need to be exploited to improve the sustainability of products. Manufacturing industry is an important sector of any economy and hasthe potential to become a driving force for enabling sustainable patterns of production and consumption through introducing efficient productionpractices and developing products and services that help reduce environmental impacts. The benefits of adopting an integrated policy towardsproduct development based on life cycle thinking and eco-design to stimulate improvement of the environmental performance of each part ofproduct life cycle phases and achieve sustainable patterns of production and consumption are emphasized. The challenges in implementingsustainable manufacturing and the circular economy approaches are listed. A number of solutions are suggested to face up these challenges,for instance, increased awareness of enterprises particularly SME's of product life cycle issues and the opportunities that are available for costsavings and profit making from eco-innovation in product development for both the domestic and export markets and providing practical helpand advice directly to enterprises on integrated product development to promote enterprise led Eco-innovation. Aiming at contributing to sus-tainable manufacturing in China, Sino-UK Low Carbon Manufacturing Consortium, a multi-disciplinary research and educational partnershipbetween academia, industry and government agencies in the UK and China with interest in sustainable manufacturing issues, has been formedrecently.The vision, aims and benefits of membership of the consortium are also discussed.

文摘By using conceptual model of BPEIR(Behavior-Pressure-Effect-Impact-Response)and Delphi method,we establish the evaluation index system of agricultural circular economy including four indices,namely index of socio-economic development,index of reducing input of resources,index of recycling of resources and index of safety of environment and resources.We conduct comprehensive evaluation on developmental level of agricultural circular economy from 1998 to 2007 in Hunan Province.The analysis results show that the agricultural circular economy of Hunan Province from 1998 to 2007,on the whole,has the tendency of development with annual growth rate of 1.89%.The annual decrease rate of recycling of resources and reducing input of resources from 1999 to 2003 is 25%and 11%respectively,which has become the main factor impeding development of agricultural circular economy.After the year 2003,it is mainly reducing input of resources.
文摘Eco-industry, circular economy, cleaner production, industrial ecology or industrial ecosystem and other subjects are all categories related to sustainable developinent. This paper studies the relations and differences between the four categories and sustainable development as well as ecological economics. Circular economy, eco-industry, industrial ecosystem and cleaner production were put forward during the revolution in “end treatment pattern” of traditional industrial society. Industrial ecology, eco-industry and circular economy theory are three content expansions of cleaner production. Ecological economics is of instructive function theoretically and methodologically for circular economy, eco-industrial, cleaner production and industrial ecology. Circular economy theory is easier to be accepted, compared with ecological economics theory. And circular economy in nature is the complete application of ecological economics theory.

文摘This paper gives a general overview of rationale of tropical agricultural circular economy.On the basis of ecological economic theory,circular economy is a new model of economic development which aims at realizing reducing of resources use,reuse of products and recycling of wastes,conforming to the principle of 4R.It is to make economic system melt into the process of cycle of material of natural ecological system harmoniously.This paper introduces the advantages of developing tropical agriculture in Hainan Province,the main problems existing in the development and two main models of sustainable tropical agricultural development in Hainan Province at present.9 typical models of tropical agricultural circular economy in Hainan Province are listed in particular,including compound ecological project of forestry and animal husbandry,three-dimensional planting model of plantation,multilayered structure of eucalyptuses,sustainable agricultural model of sightseeing,the model of using animal manure,precision tropical agricultural model,clean production model of tropical agriculture,deep processing model of tropical agricultural products,and the model of ecological agricultural industrialization.Corresponding countermeasures and suggestions are put forward to promote development of tropical agricultural circular economy in Hainan Province as follows:take actions that suit local circumstances,exert advantage and exploit potential;give full play to advantage of integration of production,teaching and research,and promote agriculture by applying scientific and technological advances;the whole staff participate and strengthen construction of soft environment and hard environment.
文摘Based on the brief description of the developmental status of social economy in Jiangsu Province,the index system including 16 indexes contained in 5 subsystems is established according to the statistics from Jiangsu Statistical Yearbook-2009,the practical situation of Jiangsu Province and the connotation of circular economy.The developmental trends of circular economy of 13 prefecture-level cities in Jiangsu Province are comprehensively evaluated by using the improved extreme value treatment,analytic hierarchy process(AHP),comprehensive evaluation of herdsman and comprehensive evaluation model of grey multi-level.The results show that the developmental level of circular economy in Jiangsu Province varies hugely in different areas,the difference of the comprehensive score between the crest value and minimum value is 0.29.In the end,in view of the problems in the development of circular economy,the countermeasures and suggestions on establishing and improving the management of circular economy,the operation and supervision mechanism;accelerating the industrial transformation and intensifying resource saving and comprehensive use of resource.

文摘The current linear economy assumes abundant,easily accessible,and cost-effective natural resources.However,this assumption is unsustainable,especially considering the world’s current trajectory exceeding the Earth’s ecological limits.In contrast,circular economy(CE)reduces wastes and improves resource efficiency,making them a more sustainable alternative to the dominant linear model.Biomass energy generated from agricultural leftovers,forestry wastes,and municipal trash provides a renewable substitute for fossil fuels.This reduces greenhouse gas emissions and improves energy security.Proper waste management,including trash reduction,recycling,and innovative waste-to-energy technology,reduces the burden on landfills and incineration and creates renewable energy from materials that would otherwise go to waste.Although integrating these techniques is consistent with the CE’s resource efficiency and waste minimization principles,it requires addressing environmental,technical,and socioeconomic challenges.Given the pressing global issues,transitioning to a CE and implementing sustainable environmental practices are crucial to mitigate the current waste management crisis.The aim of this study is to emphasize the viability of biomass as a source of sustainable energy,the necessity of comprehensive strategies that prioritize ecological sustainability,community involvement,and innovation to achieve a circular principle based future,and the potential obstacles to the implementation of sustainable environmental practices.This study will aid in implementing CE practices to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and landfill loads.Beyond environmental benefits,it can also bring economic,social,and health improvements.Furthermore,this study will assist societies in addressing global issues,such as resource scarcity,pollution,and climate change,as well as transitioning to a more sustainable and resilient future.
文摘On the strength of the theory of agricultural circular economy, the mutual relation between the development of agricultural circular economy and new village construction is analyzed. The results show that developing agricultural circular economy and constructing new village is the mutual promotion; realizing agricultural circular economy is the main target of new agricultural construction and developing agricultural circular economy is the way of realizing new village construction. The major problems in the development of agricultural circular economy in Qinhuangdao City are pointed out, covering weak ideological foundation of developing agricultural circular economy; inadequate directions from the government and insufficient technical and financial support. The countermeasures on developing agricultural circular economy in new village construction are put forward, including cultivating people's awareness on circular economy; establishing the law and regulation system of agricultural circular economy; intensifying the technical and model innovation of agricultural circular economy and accelerating the maketization pace of agro-products.
文摘Agricultural tridimensional pollution(AtriP)has multi-directional and complicated chains.Circular economy is found to be an efficient mechanism that can help control AtriP.The application of three circular economic modes in agriculture and its related industries call not only interdict the AtriP chains in different stages and different directions,but also produce greater ecological,social and economical returns with less input.Nevertheless,it is a complicated systematic engineering to construct and implement effective circular economic modes to bring AtriP under control,and it depends not only on the support of the relevant technology system,but also on the supports of the relevant policies and law systems.

文摘Circular economy (CE) has been put fonvard as an important environmental and resource strategy in China.Aiming at the high utilization rate of resources and reduction of pollutants,CE means to realize a shift of fundamental paradigm.With the mode of production and consumption from linear to recycling model,the promotion requires transdisciplinary researches which integrate technological,ecological,social-cultural and other sciences.The present study focuses on the implementation of circular economy from an institutional perspective.Institution acts as a crucial factor by providing incentives for technical innovation,leading investment orientation and determining policy effectiveness,etc.This paper mainly discusses about: firstly,the feature of institution,institutional changes and institutional innovation is articulated,together with eco-industrial park strategy,extended producer's responsibility and dematerialization principle as innovative institutional arrangements; secondly,as policy plays great role on institutional changing process,the mechanism of policy implementation is needed to be related; as a result,coevolution of institutions and policies is thus presented; at last,a pilot attempt is made to find out some operational avenues in accomplishment of CE through both theoretical and practical methodology,special resolutions are put forward after some projecting difficulties and dilemmas in China are described.
文摘During the production of palm oil,a significant amount of waste is generated.However,because of inefficient handling and utilization,these wastes are becoming a larger issue.As a result,one initiative is to use these wastes in the pavement industry as sustainable materials.However,there is still a lack of understanding about the wider incorporation of palm oil waste in asphalt pavement and its performance.This study examines existing literature on the use of various wastes in the pavement industry,including palm oil clinker(POC),palm oil fibre(POF),palm kernel shell(PKS),and palm oil fuel ash(POFA).As a result,this paper presents a systematic review and scientometric investigation of related study publications on many uses of palm oil waste in the asphalt pavement industry and its performance from 2009 to 2022.The VOS viewer application was used to conduct the sciento-metric study analysis.The relationship between interactions detected in co-authored country studies cited sources of co-citation,and the keyword of the co-occurrence and publication source enabled the identification of the research gap.According to the systematic literature review,40%–60% POC can be used to fine aggregate for optimal performance,while 0–100%PKS can be used to replace coarse aggregate.In addition,50%–80% POFA or POC fine(POCF)can be used as a filler replacement,5%–8% POCF or POFA as a bitumen modifier,and 0.3% POF as a stabilizing additive.Furthermore,the study demonstrates that the safety of utilizing wastes with more than 50% CO_(2) emissions can be curtailed with minimal heavy metal leaching and radioactivity levels.The scientometric analysis may encourage researchers to seek out gaps in the literature that will aid in the long-term,multifaceted use of palm oil wastes in the asphalt pavement industry.Furthermore,the study recommends employing and researching the enormous potential of using palm oil waste in the pavement sectors because they are more sustainable and have better performance.However,there are some barriers to using palm oil waste in the asphalt pavement industry,such as a lack of design standards and guidelines,inefficient raw material pro-cessing conversion facilities,and large-scale production equipment.
