In 2019,the United Arab Emirates(UAE)became the first Arab country to integrate Chinese language education into its national basic education system,employing 172 Chinese language teachers and educating over 54,000 Emi...In 2019,the United Arab Emirates(UAE)became the first Arab country to integrate Chinese language education into its national basic education system,employing 172 Chinese language teachers and educating over 54,000 Emirati students by 2022.In response to the global pandemic,the UAE also became the first Arab nation to implement distance learning on a national scale,transitioning public schools to this mode of instruction in March 2020.However,existing research on distance Chinese learning primarily focuses on international students in Chinese universities or countries where Chinese language education is more established,and mainly targets older age groups such as university and high school students.There is currently no research dedicated to distance Chinese learning in the UAE.This paper addresses this research gap by exploring three key aspects.The first section reviews current literature on the key stakeholders and influencing factors in distance learning.The second section examines the development of distance Chinese language education and proposes an initial evaluation framework for this field.The third section analyzes the current state of distance Chinese learning in the UAE,highlighting specific issues that warrant further scholarly attention.This study serves as a valuable reference for researchers interested in advancing research on both distance learning and Chinese language education in the UAE.展开更多

This mixed-method empirical study investigated the role of learning strategies and motivation in predicting L2 Chinese learning outcomes in an online multimodal learning environment.Both quantitative and qualitative a...This mixed-method empirical study investigated the role of learning strategies and motivation in predicting L2 Chinese learning outcomes in an online multimodal learning environment.Both quantitative and qualitative approaches also examined the learners'perspectives on online multimodal Chinese learning.The participants in this study were fifteen pre-intermediate adult Chinese learners aged 18-26.They were originally from different countries(Spain,Italy,Argentina,Colombia,and Mexico)and lived in Barcelona.They were multilingual,speaking more than two European languages,without exposure to any other Asian languages apart from Chinese.The study's investigation was composed of Strategy Inventory for Language Learning(SILL),motivation questionnaire,learner perception questionnaire,and focus group interview.The whole trial period lasted three months;after the experiment,the statistics were analyzed via the Spearman correlation coefficient.The statistical analysis results showed that strategy use was highly correlated with online multimodal Chinese learning outcomes;this indicated that strategy use played a vital role in online multimodal Chinese learning.Motivation was also found to have a significant effect.The perception questionnaire uncovered that the students were overall satisfied and favoring the online multimodal learning experience design.The detailed insights from the participants were exhibited in the transcripted analysis of focus group interviews.展开更多

OBJECTIVE:To assess the effect of case-based learning(CBL)in the education of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).METHODS:The studies concerning TCM courses designed with CBL were included by searching the databases of ...OBJECTIVE:To assess the effect of case-based learning(CBL)in the education of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).METHODS:The studies concerning TCM courses designed with CBL were included by searching the databases of EBSCO,Pubmed,Science Citation Index,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Chongqing VIP database.The valid data was extracted in accordance with the included criteria.The quality of the studies was assessed with Gemma Flores-Masteo.RESULTS:A total of 22 articles were retrieved that met the selection criteria:one was of high quality;two were of low quality;the rest were categorized as moderate quality.The majority of the studiesdemonstrated the better effect produced by CBL,while a few studies showed no difference,compared with the didactic format.All included studies confirmed the favorable effect on learners'attitude,skills and ability.CONCLUSION:CBL showed the desirable results in achieving the goal of learning.Compared to didactic approach,it played a more active role in promoting students'competency.Since the quality of the articles on which the study was based was not so high,the findings still need further research to become substantiated.展开更多
