The Relationship among Chinese Teachers’Organizational Support,Career Adaptability and Job Satisfaction:The Mediating Effect of Decent Work

Background:As an important indicator of subjective well-being(SWB),decent work is a key guarantee for the sustainable development of teachers and their psychological health and work quality.Faced with the rapid development of artificial intelligence and the global labor market,vocational college teachers are facing challenges such as workload pressure and limited career development,which may harm their well-being.This study aims to localize the measurement method of decent work in Chinese vocational education based on the theory of the Psychology of Working Theory,and explore the relationship mechanism between organizational support,career adaptability,decent work,and job satisfaction among vocational college teachers.Methods:A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 422 HVCU teachers in China(202 male,220 female)using the localized Perceived Organizational Support Scale,Career Adaptability Scale,Decent Work Scale,and Job Satisfaction Scale.Results:The overall level of HVCU teachers’decent work was above the median(Mean=4.09,SD=0.69),laying a foundation for their SWB.Decent work significantly and positively predicted job satisfaction(β=0.620,p<0.001).Organizational support(r=0.58,p<0.001)and career adaptability(r=0.82,p<0.001)can positively affect decent work,and further improve job satisfaction(collective R2 rising from 38.3%to 41.1%).Bootstrap analysis confirmed these mediating effects were robust.Conclusions:This study confirms that the combined effects of organizational support and career adaptability can enhance decent work,further improving teachers’job satisfaction and subsequent subjective well-being.Besides,this study provides an empirical basis for improving the well-being of higher vocational teachers and the sustainable development of vocational education,and has practical significance for improving the teacher incentive policy. 展开更多

Objectives:Teachers are facing unprecedented new challenges leading them to face an increasing number of tasks that are not part of their job,as well as having to cope with the additional skills acquisition that comes with non-traditional forms of teaching and learning,and increased work pressure leading to an increase in the rate of teachers leaving the profession.Therefore,this study aims to explore the mechanism of the career calling on job burnout through career adaptability and work engagement.Methods:This study conducted a cross-sectional survey of 465 primary and secondary school teachers(PSST)in China's Mainland from the perspective of work adjustment and used structural equation modeling(SEM)to examine the mediating roles of career adaptability and work engagement in the relationship between teachers’career calling and job burnout.Results:The results show that PSSTs are above average in career calling,career adaptability,and work engagement,while job burnout is below average.A significant positive or negative correlation exists between career calling,career adaptability,work engagement,and job burnout.The result of path analysis indicates that career adaptability and work engagement exert an indirect influence on the job burnout of PSST through three paths:namely,the independent intermediary role of career adaptability(EV=−0.144),the independent intermediary role of work engagement(EV=0.172)and the chain intermediary role of the two(EV=0.176).Conclusion:This study emphasizes the importance of career adaptability and work engagement in teacher development in regulating career calling and job burnout.Therefore,on the one hand,we think that if managers want to reduce teachers’job burnout,they need to pay more attention to teachers’career adaptability and work engagement,rather than relying solely on teachers’career calling.On the other hand,it is to remind teachers not to rely on their adjustment to adapt to the work,but also to need outside help as much as possible. 展开更多

Design thinking pedagogy effects on undergraduates’career decision-making self-efficacy and employability:A pilot intervention study

This study examined the effects of design thinking pedagogy on undergraduates’career decision-making selfefficacy and employability in career education.Using a quasi-experimental design,Chinese college students(N=93)were participants in two wings.The experimental group(n=47)received the design thinking pedagogy,while the control group(n=46)followed the regularly teacher-centered method.The students completed the career decision-making self-efficacy scale and employability scale before and after the intervention.Independent samples t-test results showed that design thinking pedagogy significantly improves students’career decision-making self-efficacy and employability.The ANCOVA results showed that the pretest scores of career decision-making self-efficacy and employability had no significant association with the experimental intervention.There was no interaction between the treatment and pretest scores.It would seem that experimental design thinking pedagogy implemented in career guidance courses has little effect compared to the usual course presentation.Nonetheless,prospects for the implementation of design thinking-guided learning activities to support interdisciplinary learning for improved higher education and career development outcomes need further exploration. 展开更多

We examined the relationship between social support and career adaptability,as well as the mediating roles of proactive personality and career decision-making self-efficacy in this process.A total of 1354 Chinese college students(female=964;mean age=19.53 years,SD=1.33 years)completed an online questionnaire.Path analysis indicated that social support was positively associated with higher levels of career adaptability.Both proactive personality and career decision-making self-efficacy served as parallel mediators,strengthening the relationship between social support and career adaptability.The complete chain mediation analysis revealed that social support influences career adaptability primarily through proactive personality,which in turn enhances career decision-making self-efficacy,further contributing to increased career adaptability.These findings extend career capital theory by demonstrating that social and psychological resources jointly facilitate career adaptability. 展开更多

UAE is considered as collectivistic as per many major studies on culture. The present study aims to find the effect of cultural orientatiotr---like individualism or collectivism on a person's organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) There are many studies related to collectivism and organization citizenship behavior as well as organization commitment and OCB. But most of these studies were done in a western context and is done years back. The present generation of UAE having undergone studies in management which is highly dominated by western philosophies and due to their interaction with diverse nationalities have evolved in their behavior. At this point it is necessary to investigate whether there is any shift in their behavior pattems based on collectivism. Career commitment has grown among UAE nationals in recent years due to high level of commitment from the government towards education and employment. Since OCB is more of an altruistic tendency within an individual, the study looks into the cultural difference within an individual like individualism or collectivism and its relationship with a person's OCB level among the employees in UAE. Career commitment is taken as a another variable. The study has made some interesting findings which show a shift from the previous studies that show a direct relationship using correlation analysis, between collectivism and organization citizenship behavior. The study found that there is no relationship between individualism or collectivism and organization citizenship behavior, but there is some relationship between career commitment and organization citizenship behavior factor loyal boosterism. 展开更多

Objective:To understand the current situation of career planning awareness and readiness of freshman medical students with a background in digital medicine,and to provide references for optimizing the medical education system and career guidance.Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted on freshman medical students at a university in Yunnan Province using questionnaire survey.Results:A total of 272 questionnaires were distributed and 264 valid questionnaires were returned,yielding an effective response rate of 97.10%.The average score of digital medical awareness of freshman medical students was(70.50±8.81),and 63.63%of the students had a high awareness(score≧70);The average score of career planning awareness and readiness of freshman medical students was(91.76±14.87),and 60.63%of students had high awareness and readiness(score≧90).Pearson correlation analysis showed that the total score of digital medical awareness was positively correlated with the total score of career planning awareness and readiness(r=0.13,P<0.05).Conclusion:Freshman medical students’career planning awareness and readiness are generally good,but their practical application of digital medical-related skills still needs improvement.It is suggested that schools strengthen the integration of interdisciplinary curriculum,introduce digital vocational training modules,and formulate differentiated guidance strategies for different majors to enhance students’professional competitiveness in the digital medical era. 展开更多

This study examines how organizational support influences the career adaptability of novice university teachers in Guangdong,China,and the mediating role of teacher self-efficacy.Drawing on social cognitive theory and organizational support theory,we hypothesized that organizational support would positively predict career adaptability through self-efficacy.A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 326 novice teachers(with 1–3 years of teaching experience)from 12 universities in Guangdong.Data were analyzed using correlation analysis,hierarchical regression,and bootstrap.Results showed that:(1)organizational support was positively associated with both self-efficacy(r=0.62,P<0.001)and career adaptability(r=0.58,P<0.001);(2)self-efficacy fully mediated the relationship between organizational support and career adaptability(indirect effect=0.24,95%CI[0.18,0.31]),with a partial reduction in the direct effect fromβ=0.35 toβ=0.17(P<0.05);(3)female teachers reported higher self-efficacy than males(P<0.05),and teachers with 2 years of experience showed significantly higher adaptability than those with 1 year(P<0.05).The findings highlight the critical role of self-efficacy in translating organizational support into adaptability,providing empirical evidence for universities to design targeted support strategies. 展开更多

With the development and changes of society and the further iteration and renewal of parents’concepts,the importance and influence of future career planning of primary school students have become increasingly prominent.Parental expectation is a very important part of influencing proactive personality,and it is also an important part of improving career adaptability,personal quality and comprehensive ability.This study explores the relationship between parents’expectation,proactive personality and career adaptability of primary school students.This paper deeply analyzes the influence of proactive personality on career adaptability,so as to provide theoretical support for improving the career adaptability of primary school students.In this study,the Chinese version of“Career Resilience”,“Parental Expectation Questionnaire”and“Proactive Personality Measurement”(PPS)were used as research tools to conduct psychological measurement on 287 students in grade 5 and 6 of a primary school in Beijing.SPSS29.0 and Process statistical software were used to explore the status quo and relationship of proactive personality,parents’expectation and career adaptability of primary school students.The conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)The correlation analysis results between parental expectation and proactive personality are significant,and there is a significant positive correlation.(2)The correlation analysis results between parents’expectations and career adaptability are significant,and there is a significant positive correlation.(3)The correlation analysis results between career adaptability and proactive personality were significant,showing a significant positive correlation.(4)Both parents’expectation and proactive personality have significant direct and positive effects on career adaptability,and proactive personality plays a partial mediating role between parents’expectation and career adaptability. 展开更多

To understand career adaptability among undergraduates majoring in Primary Education in provincial normal universities,this study surveyed 257 such students and analyzed the current state and characteristics of their career adaptability.The results indicate that their overall career adaptability is moderately high.Significant differences in career adaptability were found by program type.Maternal education exerted a notable influence on overall career adaptability and on the“career confidence”dimension,whereas paternal education only showed a highly significant effect on“career confidence.”Therefore,schools should consolidate their role as the main arena for education,while families should provide supportive environments,jointly addressing the career adaptation and development needs of Primary Education undergraduates and further enhancing their career adaptability. 展开更多

This study explored the relationship between perceived social support and employment anxiety among Chinese college students,as well as the mediating and moderating effects of psychological resilience and career adaptability on this relationship.A total of 1928 college students(females=1371,mean age=20.42,SD=1.05)completed the Perceived Social Support Scale,Employment Anxiety Questionnaire,Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale and Career Adapt-Abilities Scale.Mediation analysis results showed that psychological resilience mediated the relationship between perceived social support and employment anxiety for lower employment anxiety.Career adaptability moderated the mediating effect of psychological resilience for lower employment anxiety than with either of the variables alone.Thefindings are consistent with cognitive diathesis-stress theory and career construction theory which propose that individuals’cognitive structures and psychological predispositions interact with environmental stressors to shape their career development and psychological well-being.Essentially,students who have a robust social support system,high career adaptability,and are psychologically resilient are less likely to experience employment anxiety. 展开更多

This study investigated proactive personality effects on employment preparation and the mediating roles of self-efficacy and career exploration behaviors in this relationship.The study sample comprised 445 university students(68.3%female;aged 20 to 24)from a university in central China.The participants completed measures to assess proactive personality,employment preparation,self-efficacy,and career exploration behaviors.Structural equation modeling analysis results indicated that proactive personality predicted higher employment preparation;Self-efficacy and career exploration behaviors partially mediated this relationship.Specifically,career exploration behaviors had a stronger mediating effect than self-efficacy on the total effect(34.71%vs.28.89%).The findings suggest proactive personality is key to employment preparation through self-belief and willingness to explore the job market.Higher education career counseling and mental health education programs should provide targeted training to promote career exploration by the student’s personal attributes for best match employment preparation. 展开更多
