Methods Ninety patients were randomly divided into an observation group (45 cases) and a control group (45 cases). Basic treatments selected according to corresponding stroke units were applied to both groups. Besides, scalp acupuncture at Dingnie Qianxiexian (MS 6, 顶颞前斜线), Dingnie Houxiexian (MS 6, 顶颞前斜线) and Dingzhongxian (NS 5, 顶中线), was applied in the treatment group. In the observation group, active and passive movement was carried out during the process of scalp acupuncture, and then needling plus bloodletting puncturing and cupping was applied. In the control group, only needling plus blood-letting puncturing and cupping was given. Therapeutic effects, pain scoring obtained by visual analogue scales (VAS), FugI-Meyer and FugI-Meyer's scoring reflecting moving functions of upper limbs were made after 4 courses of treatments in both groups. Results The total effective rate was 95.5% and 91.1% in the observation group and control group, respectively, showing superiority of the former to the latter (P〈0.05). After treatment, VAS scores were all obviously reduced in both groups (P〈0.01), and the reduction in the former was significantly more than that in the latter (P〈0.01). Moving functions of upper limbs shown by Fugl-Meyer's scoring were improved after 2 courses of treatment in both groups (P〈0.01). The improvement was more obvious after 4 courses of treatment than that after 2 courses of treatment in both groups (P〈0.05). After 4 courses of treatment, moving functions shown by FugI-Meyer's scoring were more remarkably improved in the observation group than those in the control group(t=3.9, P〈0.01). Conclusion Both kinetic needling combined with needling plus blood-letting puncturing and cupping and simple needling plus blood-letting puncturing and cupping are effective in treating shoulder-hand syndrome after apoplexy, and the former is better than the latter.展开更多

Hisinitial electrocardiogram suggested STEMI in the anterior wall. Furthermore, hislaboratory results showed severe anemia with a hemoglobin level of 4.1 g/dL. Ofnote, the patient underwent regular WC therapy for chronic back pain, which hehad recently intensified. His WC practice resulted in life-threatening anemia andeventually STEMI. Percutaneous coronary intervention in the left anteriordescending artery was performed to treat the STEMI. His dyspnea dramaticallyimproved after the transfusion, and his hemoglobin level returned to 14.8 g/dLwithin 2 mo after discharge. He has been uneventful for the last seven years offollow-up.CONCLUSION The current case demonstrates that excessive WC without adequate medicalmonitoring can result in severe anemia, which can further develop into STEMI.展开更多

Blistering cupping therapy achieves better effects through the formation of blistering fluid after suction. However, it is still controversial whether cupping induced blisters are beneficial to recovery of diseases, and the mechanism is still not completely clear. Here on the basis of the traditional cupping method, we aimed to identify the mechanism of blistering cupping from the levels of biomechanics and molecular biology. The negative pressure attraction induced by cupping suck should be of value in increasing pain threshold and relieving pain as well as improving the blood circulation and metabolism. Furthermore, the blistering fluid induced by cupping was the inflammatory substance actually that discharged through the superficial lymphatic vessels, including immunoglobulin, lysozyme, erythrocytes, etc. which could cause the autogenetic inflammatory reaction of selected cupping area, and further activated certain immune pathways including anti-oxidation, anti-apoptosis, tissue repairing and metabolic regulation. Besides, the formation of scar induced by blistering cupping was not only the result of excessive inflammatory response, but also involved in mobilizing the immune response.展开更多

文摘Microneedles(MNs)have been extensively investigated for transdermal delivery of large-sized drugs, including proteins, nucleic acids, and even extracellular vesicles(EVs).However, for their sufficient skin penetration, conventional MNs employ long needles(≥600μm),leading to pain and skin irritation. Moreover,it is critical to stably apply MNs against complex skin surfaces for uniform nanoscale drug delivery.Herein,a dually amplified transdermal patch(MN@EV/SC)is developed as the stem cell-derived EV delivery platform by hierarchically integrating an octopusinspired suction cup(SC)with short MNs(≤300μm).While leveraging the suction effect to induce nanoscale deformation of the stratum corneum,MN@EV/SC minimizes skin damage and enhances the adhesion of MNs,allowing EV to penetrate deeper into the dermis. When MNs of various lengths are applied to mouse skin, the short MNs can elicit comparable corticosterone release to chemical adhesives, whereas long MNs induce a prompt stress response.MN@EV/SC can achieve a remarkable penetration depth(290μm)for EV,compared to that of MN alone(111μm).Consequently,MN@EV/SC facilitates the revitalization of fibroblasts and enhances collagen synthesis in middle-aged mice.Overall,MN@EV/SC exhibits the potential for skin regeneration by modulating the dermal microenvironment and ensuring patient comfort.

文摘OBJECTIVE:To update the current best evidence on the effectiveness and safety of cupping therapy in pain management.METHODS:The protocol of this systematic review was registered at PROSPERO(CRD42021261308).An updated literature searching in 7 databases was conducted from January 2014 to January 2023.Two authors extracted data and assessed the risk of bias independently.Statistical analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4.1 software(Cochrane Collaboration,London,UK).Meta-analysis with a random effect model was conducted when there was no serious statistical heterogeneity among trials(I^(2) ≤ 75%).Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development, and Evaluation was also conducted to assess the quality of evidence.RESULTS:Seventy-two trials with 5720 participants were included. All included trials were assessed as having high risk of bias. The majority of the included trials reported the benefit of cupping plus other therapy or cupping alone on improving cure rate(average risk ratio more than 1.15) and reducing visual analogue scale [average mean difference(MD) reduction 0.16 to 7.0 cm],improving quality of life, quality of sleep or other symptoms related to pain condition. And there was low/very low quality evidence that the incidence of adverse events in the cupping groups were lower than that in the control groups.Although the heterogeneity between studies and the methodological quality of the study itself lead to the low evidence strength of the current conclusions, the results of this study are a valuable supplement to the founding of previous review.CONCLUSION:Cupping therapy alone or combined with other therapy was considered benefit in relieving pain, improving the quality of life, and increasing the cure rate of patients with pain conditions, though supported by the low quality of evidence.According to the limited evidence, cupping therapy seems to have less harm than drugs when treating pain conditions.
文摘Introduction:Cupping therapy is an integrative and complementary medicine therapy that practiced worldwide by several civilizations for thousands of years.Cupping therapy is reported to be a relatively safe practice especially if performed by qualified therapists.Subconjunctival hemorrhage(SCH)is a common cause of eye redness and can be classified into traumatic and spontaneous.Case presentation:This case report discussed an adverse event related to wet cupping therapy. The patient developed SCH one day after performing cupping therapy. He was completely recovered after 2 weeks. This case report should increase the knowledge of cupping therapists regarding increasing safety of patient when performing wet cupping therapy on specific body parts especially, head, neck and cervical areas.Furthermore,it highlighted the importance of conducting research regarding the mechanical and physiological effects of cupping therapy. Conclusion:Adverse events related to cupping therapy should be reported with every patient.Cupping therapists should be aware of this possible mild adverse event. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first published adult case of SCH related to wet cupping therapy session.More studies are critically needed for evaluation of cupping therapy effects and adverse events especially when performed on head and neck.

文摘BACKGROUND Wet cupping (WC) is a traditional therapy of skin suction-assisted bloodlettingthat is widely used in modern alternative medicine in Asia and the Middle East.Herein, we report the case of a male who presented with ST-elevation myocardialinfarction (STEMI) and life-threatening anemia and underwent excessive WC.CASE SUMMARY A 55-year-old male presented with chest pain (30 min) and dyspnea (3 wk). He has been uneventful for the last seven years offollow-up.CONCLUSION The current case demonstrates that excessive WC without adequate medicalmonitoring can result in severe anemia, which can further develop into STEMI.
文摘Pricking-cupping therapy is a Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)nursing technology that can adjust the viscera of the human body, make the meridians smooth, and Yin and Yang balanced mainly by means of relieving heat and detoxification, harmonizing Qi and blood, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, dredging meridians and activating collaterals, reducing swelling and pain, purging heat and calming shock, clearing heat, and opening orifices.Pricking-cupping therapy has a long history and wide application. After thousands of years of development,it has made great progress. They are widely used to treat lumbar disc herniation, herpes zoster, acute arthritis, migraine, and other diseases in China.Through the clinical practice and theoretical exploration of physicians of past dynasties, the therapeutic mechanism and application scope of pricking-cupping therapy have been greatly enriched.Modern TCM practitioners have conducted in-depth researches on the operation norms of the therapy on the basis of the ancients, hoping to grasp the essence of the disease more accurately and make the rational use of the operation technology of the therapy.
文摘Blistering cupping therapy, as a new type of cupping therapy, has attracted more and more attention of clinical doctor and scholars in home and abroad. Besides, the formation of scar induced by blistering cupping was not only the result of excessive inflammatory response, but also involved in mobilizing the immune response.
