Anoectochilus roxburghii from different planting sources was used as the research object,and the biological activity of its extracts was compared.The results showed that the whole plant extracts of A.roxburghii planted in bag culture (BAG),greenhouse cultivation (GRE) and tissue culture seedlings (TIS) were rich in active ingredients such as A.roxburghii polysaccharides and A.roxburghii glycosides.In vitro experiments showed that Anoectochilus roxburghii extracts from different planting sources had good antioxidant capacity,tyrosinase inhibition ability and hyaluronidase inhibition ability.Among them,the GRE Anoectochilus roxburghii whole plant extract had the strongest scavenging ability on DPPH free radical,ABTS free radical and hydroxyl free radical,and the inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity and hyaluronidase activity was significantly higher than that of BAG and TIS.At the same time,it also verified that the extract of Anoectochilus roxburghii has antioxidant,whitening,anti-inflammatory and other skin care effects,which provides a theoretical basis for the development and application of Anoectochilus roxburghii extract in the field of cosmetics. 展开更多

Background of the study:The Bangladeshi cosmetics market has witnessed significant growth in recent years,driven by changing consumer lifestyles,increased disposable incomes,and rising awareness of personal grooming.The study investigates the impact of content cues which influence on purchasing intention towards cosmetic brands in Bangladesh.Purpose:The basic purpose of this study was to evaluate the factors influencing consumers’purchasing intentions for cosmetic brands in Bangladesh.Specifically,the study explored the roles of various cosmetic-related attributes and their impact on purchasing intentions within the context of Bangladesh’s cosmetic industry.Research methods:A quantitative research approach was adopted,and data were collected through a structured survey targeting Bangladeshi consumers who frequently engage with cosmetic products.All the valid responses were analyzed using SmartPLS 4.0 to perform structural equation modeling.Research findings:The findings revealed that trust in cosmetic brands and competitive pricing significantly influence consumers’purchasing intentions,highlighting the importance of fostering trust and affordability.However,certain constructs,such as ethnocentric tendencies and concerns about ingredient safety,showed limited impact on consumers’decisions.Conclusion:This study contributes to the existing literature by offering empirical insights into the Bangladeshi context,particularly within the rapidly growing cosmetics market.The findings provide actionable recommendations for cosmetic brands aiming to strengthen their market position through trust-building initiatives,competitive pricing strategies,and educational campaigns to enhance consumer awareness.These insights are particularly relevant for marketing practitioners seeking to understand and respond to the unique dynamics of the Bangladeshi cosmetics industry. 展开更多

Analysis of Research Hotspots and Trends of Plant-derived Cosmetics Based on VOSviewer and CiteSpace

With the improvement of people’s living standards and the demand for their own health,plant-derived cosmetics containing plant extracts or plant active ingredients are also more and more favored by consumers.In fact,the research on plant-derived cosmetics has a history of centuries and even over 1,000 years both domestically and internationally.In order to further analyze the domestic and international research hotspots and future trends in the research field of plant-derived cosmetics,the relevant literatures from China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI)database,Wanfang database,Vip database and Web of Science Core Collection(WoSCC)database from January 1994 to June 2024 were chosen as research objects in this paper.The authors,countries,research institutions and key words of the selected 1,415 Chinese papers and 1,927 English papers were visually analysed using the bibliometric software CiteSpace and VOSviewer.The results show that the number of publications shows an increasing trend;the communication and cooperation between core authors and between research institutions of the publicationare are both weak;the research hotspots mainly focus on natural plants,Chinese herbs,active ingredients,and whitening;and future research trends may include green synthesis,efficacy application,health and safety,etc.This study aims to grasp the hot spots and trends in the field of plant-derived cosmetics,and to provide ideas and references for the relevant research in China in the future. 展开更多

Background:The use of skincare cosmetics can enhance human skin integrity,appearance,and conditions.However,consumers nowadays are quite concerned about the efficacy of skincare cosmetics,particularly those with antioxidant properties that can improve skin tone and skin health.Previous studies also reported that volatile organic compounds(VOCs)in skincare cosmetics could have beneficial effects on human skin.Objective:This research aims to evaluate the antioxidant properties of CHARMS^(TM)skincare cosmetics as well as to investigate the presence of VOCs that could influence their skin tone improvement properties.Material and methods:The CHARMS^(TM)products used were cleanser,toner,essence,serum,moisturizer,scrub,and night cream.The skin tone improvement was assessed on 20 female volunteers’facial skin by using a colorimeter.The antioxidant properties were evaluated by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)free radical scavenging assay,total phenolic content(TPC),and total flavonoid content(TFC).Meanwhile,the VOCs were measured using an electronic nose based on gas chromatography(e-nose-GC).Results:The findings show that skin tone was improved significantly by 3.23%in which the skin becomes lighter while skin redness was reduced by 5.75%after using the CHARMS^(TM)skincare cosmetics.The results also show that the cleanser(21.55±0.23%)and the serum(23.60±0.19%)had the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity.Contrarily,the moisturizer exhibited the highest TPC value(324.14±17.47 mg GAE/g),and the cleanser had the highest TFC value(24.68±1.57 mg QE/g).The VOCs detected in these skincare cosmetics such as limonene andγ-terpinene may have skin-lightening effects.Conclusion:It can be concluded that the tested products from CHARMS^(TM)skincare cosmetics comply with the standard regulations and guidelines for Control of Cosmetic Products in Malaysia and can be used effectively as a daily skincare routine. 展开更多

A New Method for Simultaneous Determination of Nicotinamide Mononucleotide, Ergothioneine, and Nicotinamide in Cosmetics by Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography

A high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)method has been developed using a CAPCELL PAK ADME(150 mm×4.6 mm,5μm)as analytical column and a gradient elution with 15 min using acetonitrile and 0.1%(in volume fraction)phosphoric acid water(pH=2.2)as the mobile phase.Three active substances in cosmetics were quantitatively detected simultaneously at a detection wavelength of 265 nm.The linear ranges of β-nicotinamide mononucleotides,ergothioneine and nicotinamide are 10~200 mg/L,5~100 mg/L and 5~100 mg/L respectively and the detection limits of three components are 3.0 mg/L,1.5 mg/L and 1.5 mg/L respectively.The recovery rate is 97.1~104.9%,with RSD≤2.0%.The method was applied to quantitative analysis of five samples of cosmetics toner,lotion,cream,essence and gel and three samples of raw materials.The results showed that the results of β-nicotinamide mononucleotide and ergothioneine in five cosmetics were consistent with the product label,while nicotinamide was inconsistent with the label.The purity of the three raw material samples was 99.5%,99.7% and 100.8%respectively.This method offers high precision,accuracy and short analysis time,making it a reliable approach for studying three active ingredients in cosmetics and suitable for quality control of related functional ingredients. 展开更多

Natural products have attracted wide attention in the cosmetics market due to their safety and high efficiency.As a highly active substance in nature,natural polysaccharides have been reported in recent years to have various cosmetic activities such as moisturizing,whitening,anti-aging and repairing skin,and are becoming a hot research topic in the cosmetics industry.At present,the mechanism of polysaccharide exerting cosmetic activity has been widely studied,but the relationship between polysaccharide’s chemical structure and cosmetic activity has not been effectively analyzed,which leads to the limitation of polysaccharide development.In this review,the mechanism of polysaccharides exerting cosmetic activities such as moisturizing,whitening,anti-aging and skin repair was introduced.The potential relationship between the structure and activity of polysaccharides was summarized by analyzing the influence of physical and chemical properties of polysaccharides,such as extraction method,molecular weight,monosaccharide composition,functional group and structural modification,etc.,which laid a foundation for the analysis of the structure-activity relationship of polysaccharides and improved its cosmetic value. 展开更多

Background:As the market demands change,SMEs(small and medium-sized enterprises)have long faced many design issues,including high costs,lengthy cycles,and insufficient innovation.These issues are especially noticeable in the domain of cosmetic packaging design.Objective:To explore innovative product family modeling methods and configuration design processes to improve the efficiency of enterprise cosmetic packaging design and develop the design for mass customization.Methods:To accomplish this objective,the basic-element theory has been introduced and applied to the design and development system of the product family.Results:By examining the mapping relationships between the demand domain,functional domain,technology domain,and structure domain,four interrelated models have been developed,including the demand model,functional model,technology model,and structure model.Together,these models form the mechanism and methodology of product family modeling,specifically for cosmetic packaging design.Through an analysis of a case study on men’s cosmetic packaging design,the feasibility of the proposed product family modeling technology has been demonstrated in terms of customized cosmetic packaging design,and the design efficiency has been enhanced.Conclusion:The product family modeling technology employs a formalized element as a module configuration design language,permeating throughout the entire development cycle of cosmetic packaging design,thus facilitating a structured and modularized configuration design process for the product family system.The application of the basic-element principle in product family modeling technology contributes to the enrichment of the research field surrounding cosmetic packaging product family configuration design,while also providing valuable methods and references for enterprises aiming to elevate the efficiency of cosmetic packaging design for the mass customization product model. 展开更多

Pterostilbene(PT),a lipid-soluble polyphenol known for its antioxidant,anticancer,and various other biological properties,holds potential as an active ingredient in cosmetics for its anti-wrinkle and skin-whitening effects.However,its application is limited by its low water solubility and poor penetration through the stratum corneum.To address these limitations,this study initially prepared Pterostilbene nanoliposomes(PT-NLPs)using a high shear-microjet homogenization treatment method,because of the distinctive hydrophilic and hydrophilic properties of the liposomes.The stability under different storage conditions of the PT-NLPs was evaluated by investigating the alterations of the particle size,PDI,Zeta potential and surface morphology,combined with the test results of Lumisizer stability analyzer.Finally,the comprehensive performance of PT-NLPs was evaluated through in vitro dermal and transdermal testing,human testing,and instrument testing.The results showed that the PT-NLPs treated by the high shear-microjet homogenisation method proposed in this paper possessed a 1.7-fold increase in the retention performance compared with the free PT solution,and no penetration occurred on the blood-brain barrier,indicating that PT-NLPs would not cause toxicity to the organism.The human efficacy evaluation found that the PT-NLPs whitening serum could improve skin dullness,brighten skin tone,and improve skin sensitivity after 14 days of use.The high shear-microjet homogenisation method proposed in this paper for the treatment of PT-NLPs improved the transdermal delivery properties of PT.The process has a broad application prospect in the fields of medicine and cosmetics. 展开更多

Background:Many natural polysaccharides have been reported to protect against skin aging through antioxidant pathways,but sea buckthorn polysaccharides have been less well studied in terms of antioxidant activity,and the related studies are not well developed.Objective:By examining the chemical structure of sea buckthorn polysaccharides,this research aimed to offer a scientific foundation for their use in cosmetics and explore the in vitro antioxidant potential of these polysaccharides.Materials:and Methods:We made SP(sea buckthorn crude polysaccharide)using both hot water extraction and ultrasonic extraction.Then,we used the anion exchange method to separate and purify it to get three different polysaccharides:SPA(polysaccharide eluted from deionized water),which is a neutral polysaccharide,and SPB(polysaccharides eluted from 0.1 M NaCl)and SPC(polysaccharide eluted from 0.2 M NaCl),which are acidic polysaccharides.The characteristics of the four polysaccharides(SP,SPA,SPB and SPC)were determined using high-performance gel permeation chromatography(HPGPC),high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),and x-ray diffractometry(XRD).In vitro antioxidant assays were used to test their antioxidant activities.Results:The in vitro antioxidant assay showed that the four sea buckthorn polysaccharides(SP,SPA,SPB,and SPC)were good at getting rid of superoxide anion and DPPH radicals,especially ABTS radicals.They were also better at getting rid of free radicals than VC at low concentrations,and they were also good at reducing other molecules.Conclusion:These results showed that sea buckthorn polysaccharide has certain antioxidant activity;therefore,sea buckthorn polysaccharide has a strong potential to be applied in antioxidant and anti-aging functional cosmetics. 展开更多

To study the efficacy of lip moisturizing cosmetics and explore the methods for evaluating their efficacy.The claimed efficacy and number of claimed efficacy of 44 lip moisturizing cosmetics were investigated,and a combination of in vitro and human testing was used to evaluate the efficacy of the lip moisturizing cosmetics.The efficacy claims of lip cosmetics mainly included 4 categories of moisturizing,repairing,soothing and anti-wrinkle,with 79.55%of the products claiming 3~4 categories of efficacy.In the in vitro test,the cell morphology of the skin damage model improved and the secretion of pro-inflammatory factors decreased significantly.In the human trial,the water content,skin softness and brightness L value of the cuticle of the lips increased significantly in 31 subjects,and the transepidermal water loss,redness a value,and the area and volume of lip wrinkles decreased significantly;the dryness of the lip skin and the uniformity of the skin texture improved significantly.The dryness of lip skin and the uniformity of skin texture were significantly improved.The results show that the moisture content of the stratum corneum can be used to evaluate the moisturizing efficacy of lip products.The transepidermal water loss,skin color,skin softness and expert assessment can be used to evaluate the repairing efficacy.The observation of cell morphology of skin damage models and the detection of pro-inflammatory factor content can be used to evaluate the soothing efficacy.The area and volume of lip wrinkles can be used to evaluate the anti-wrinkle efficacy of products. 展开更多
