Some recent Harvard genetics research in Anhui Province shows how extremely wealthy and powerful researchers can exploit poor rural farmers in China. After several years of controversy and a statement from the Harvard president saying that the genetics experiments were "badly wrong", there are still questions about forged informed consent (China Daily 2003, AHSRP 2004). Since these genetics projects were initially discovered, the US government established a new office to monitor foreign research (Nelson 2001). The obviously flawed international research collaboration allows a good opportunity to consider the current state of ethics and rights in Chinese STI research, and establish a standard for evaluation of research at CJSTI. This article will explain several current practices in Chinese STI research, and then introduce several internationally recognized standards for thinking about patient's rights in developing countries.展开更多
