The present paper is focused on the review of the main academic contributions describing the most common models that frame citizens' engagement in service co-production. Among these models, a specific attention has been paid to one of the most recent: the "we-government" paradigm. Consequently, to better understand we-government conversational and cooperative potential, the analysis has also interested the influence of recent mass collaboration channels and in particular of social media on citizens engagement in public service co-production, in order to better understand how and when they act as local and national governments' partners. To support theoretical evidences, a case study analysis has been conducted in order to cheek the appliance of a we-government platform to a specific area. In particular, it has been analyzed the FixMyStreet social platform and its implementation in the city of Gloucester (UK).展开更多

The participants were students and faculty at five universities in Pakistan and in the USA. The author is a representative from one of the USA-based universities. In a fortnightly high-definition videoconference dialogue between students at University of Nebraska at Omaha and Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad, the goals of deepening understanding, challenging stereotypes and inspiring community change are being met. This paper will present the preliminary results of an ongoing assessment of how this project has resulted in meeting these goals and suggest what can be done in future projects that will better meet the goals. This will add to the emerging literature on civic engagement and conflict resolution by exploring use of cutting edge technology to build trust and understanding across the world's divide.展开更多

Hong Kong people own questionable identities, neither British citizens nor Chinese subjects. Basically, the decolonization showed that the policy of domestication was implemented during the transition period of Hong Kong where the government patronized and empowered the Hong Kong people through enhancing human rights and developing political democratization. After handing over of sovereignty, the education policy made the contents of civic education more patriotic, cultural hegemonic and national ideological. The intentions were quite obviously presented in policy documents and responded in the historical contexts. The historical comparison intends to get the expandable interpretation of the scenario of education policy in this period ofHong Kong.展开更多

The samples were 395 respondents over 18 years old, selected locally of Mahasarakham Municipality, Thailand. The research found that the level of knowledge, understanding, and attitudes toward civic rights and duties of administrative affairs was at a high level but participation in the local administration was rated at a low level. The relationship between knowledge, understanding, and attitudes toward civic rights and duties of administrative affairs of the community was positive correlated. The relationship between knowledge and understanding toward civic rights and duties and participation in the community administration and the relationship between attitudes toward civic rights and duties in administrative affairs and participation in the local government administration were not correlated. Some recommendations were the local government organizations should promote and provide more information to build the right understandings and improve good attitudes toward civic rights and duties in administrative affairs. Local administrators and local leaders should play an important role to advocate and encourage public opinions toward a political ideology to ensure the public mind and make the vision "people-centered". Most importantly, the State shall pursue directive principles of State policies in relation to public participation.展开更多
