A novel steel–carbon fibre/polyetheretherketone(CF/PEEK)hybrid shaft is proposed,considering the thermal stability,negative coefficient of thermal expansion in fibre orientation,and high stiffness of CF/PEEK,which is...A novel steel–carbon fibre/polyetheretherketone(CF/PEEK)hybrid shaft is proposed,considering the thermal stability,negative coefficient of thermal expansion in fibre orientation,and high stiffness of CF/PEEK,which is expected to suppress the thermal deformation of shafts.A laser-assisted in-situ consolidation(LAC)process,together with its equipment,was developed to manufacture the hybrid shaft.Firstly,the optimal process parameters,including the laser-heated temperature and placement speed,were investigated.A maximum short-beam shear strength of 80.7 MPa was achieved when the laser-heated temperature was 500°C and the placement speed was 100 mm/s.In addition,the failure modes and the effect of environmental temperature on the CF/PEEK samples were analyzed.Both interlayer cracks and inelastic deformation failure modes were observed.The formation and propagation of cracks were further investigated through digital image correlation(DIC).Furthermore,internal defects of the CF/PEEK sample were detected using X-ray tomography scans,and a minimum porosity of 0.23%was achieved with the optimal process parameters.Finally,two steel–CF/PEEK hybrid shafts,with different fibre orientations,were manufactured based on the optimal process parameters.The surface temperature distributions and thermal deformations were investigated using a self-established deformation/temperature measurement platform.The hybrid shaft showed an 85.7%reduction in radial displacement with hoop fibre orientation and an 11.5%reduction in axial displacement with cross fibre orientation compared with the steel shaft.The results indicate that the proposed method has great potential to improve the thermal stability of hybrid shafts and the accuracy of machine tools.展开更多
Marine heatwaves(MHWs),which can exert devastating socioeconomic and ecological impacts,have attracted much public interest in recent years.In this study,we evaluate the sub-seasonal forecast skill of MHWs based on th...Marine heatwaves(MHWs),which can exert devastating socioeconomic and ecological impacts,have attracted much public interest in recent years.In this study,we evaluate the sub-seasonal forecast skill of MHWs based on the Nanjing University of Information Science&Technology Climate Forecast System version 1.1(NUIST CFS1.1)and analyze the related physical processes.Our results show that the model can accurately forecast the occurrence of MHWs on a global scale out to a lead time of 25 days.Notably,even at lead times of 51–55 days,the forecast skill in most tropical regions,as well as in the northeastern and southeastern Pacific,is superior to both random forecasts and persistence forecasts.Accurate predictions of sea level pressure,zonal currents,and mixed-layer depth are important for MHW forecasting.Furthermore,we also conduct forecast skill assessments for two well-documented MHW events.Due to its ability to correctly forecast the changes in heat flux anomalies at a lead time of 25 days,the model can accurately forecast the strong MHW event that occurred in the South China Sea in May–October 2020.However,the forecasting results were less than optimal for the strong MHW event that occurred along the Australian west coast in January–April 2011.Although the model accurately forecasts its occurrence,the forecast of its intensity is poor.Additionally,when the lead time exceeds 10 days,forecasts of the relevant physical processes of this MHW event are also inaccurate.展开更多

The finished Al/CFs composite sheet has CFs and pure Al sheets as sandwich and surf...We put forward a method of fabricating Aluminum(Al)/carbon fibers(CFs) composite sheets by the accumulative roll bonding(ARB) method. The finished Al/CFs composite sheet has CFs and pure Al sheets as sandwich and surface layers. After cross-section observation of the Al/CFs composite sheet, we found that the CFs discretely distributed within the sandwich layer. Besides, the tensile test showed that the contribution of the sandwich CFs layer to tensile strength was less than 11% compared with annealed pure Al sheet. With ex-situ observation of the CFs breakage evolution with-16%,-32%, and-45% rolling reduction during the ARB process, the plastic instability of the Al layer was found to bring shear damages to the CFs. At last, the bridging strengthening mechanism introduced by CFs was sacrificed. We provide new insight into and instruction on Al/CFs composite sheet preparation method and processing parameters.展开更多

From 1999 to 2009, more than twenty 252Cf neutron brachytherapy devices had been installed in China. The Chinese radiation oncologists implemented the 252 Cf neutron braehytherapy on more than 5 000 different kinds of cancer patients, including cervix cancer; endometrium cancer and achieved ideal results. The decomposition of CF3OH into FCFO and HF is unlikely to occur in the atmosphere due to the high activated energy of 88.7 k J/mol at the G3 level of theory. However, the computed results predict that the barrier for unimolecular decomposition of CF3OH is decreased to 25.1 kJ/mol from 188.7 k J/mol with the aid of NH3 at the G3 level of theory, which shows that the ammonia play a strong catalytic effect on the split of CF3OH. In addition, the calculated rate constants show that the decomposition of CF3OH by NH3 is faster than those of H2O and the water dimmer by 10^9 and 10^5 times respectively. The rate constants combined with the corresponding concentrations of these species demonstrate that the reaction CF3OH with NH3 via TS4 is of great importance for the decomposition of CF3OH in the atmosphere.展开更多

The G551D mutation in CFT...The G551D-CFTR mutation causing cystic fibrosis(CF) results from a missense mutation at codon 551(G551D) in the gene encoding of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator(CFTR). The G551D mutation in CFTR results in a reduced functional channel but G551D-CFTR is appropriately inserted in the apical membrane. In previous studies we discovered a class of high-affinity bicyclooctane(BCO) G551D-CFTR activators(G551D_ BCOs) with K_d down to 1 μmol/L. In this study, we analyzed the pharmacological activation of G551D-CFTR by the G551D_ BCOs by means of short circuit current analysis and cell-based fluorescence quenching assay. The G551D_ BCOs-induced G551D-CFTR activation is cAMP-dependent and is less sensitive to thiazolidinone CFTR inhibitor CFTRinh-172. These data suggest that (1) the phosphorylation of G551D-CFTR by protein kinase A is required for the activation by G551D_ BCOs; (2) G551D_ BCOs and CFTRinh-172 may act at the same site on the G551D-CFTR molecule.展开更多
The electron swarm parameters including the density-normalized effective ionization coefficients(α-η)/N and the electron drift velocities V e are calculated for a gas mixture of CF3I with N2 and CO2 by solving the...The electron swarm parameters including the density-normalized effective ionization coefficients(α-η)/N and the electron drift velocities V e are calculated for a gas mixture of CF3I with N2 and CO2 by solving the Boltzmann equation in the condition of a steady-state Townsend(SST) experiment.The overall density-reduced electric field strength is from 100 Td to 1000 Td(1 Td = 10-17V·cm2),while the CF3I content k in the gas mixture can be varied over the range from 0% to 100%.From the variation of(αη)/N with the CF3I mixture ratio k,the limiting field strength(E/N) lim for each CF3I concentration is derived.It is found that for the mixtures with 70% CF3I,the values of(E/N) lim are essentially the same as that for pure SF 6.Additionally,the global warming potential(GWP) and the liquefaction temperature of the gas mixtures are also taken into account to evaluate the possibility of application in the gas insulation of power equipment.展开更多
