In this paper,we propose a novel polling algorithm to decrease the number of idle slots and collission slots during the polling cycle by evaluating the bandwidth request of the subscribe stations(SSs) in the next polling cycle for broadband wireless access(BWA) systems.We firstly analyze the feature of silent time intervals and deduce the Hurst index which symbolizes the degree of self-similarity and long-relative nature.Then we represent the inactive OFF time intervals by the Pareto model and estimate the shape parameterαby the group measured data.Finally we can evaluate the transmission probability of a silent SS before the next polling cycle. By this algorithm,we can find the optimal transmission opportunities for the base station(BS) to achieve the least collision or void timeslots in order to achieve the largest bandwidth efficiency.The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that this polling algorithm can improve the performance for BWA system. 展开更多

This article introduces a Broadband Wireless Multimedia (BWM) access system. It aims to build a new-type "triple play" BWA network by integrating terrestrial digital TV system and the BWA system,and by taking broadband Internet as its core network platform. A primary research shows that the new BWA system is an effective solution to the existing difficulties of BWA system. However,the AII-IP core network will be a general trend since broadband wireless access adopts the connectionless statistical packet multiplexing technology.Based on the introduction of IEEE802.16d,High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and CDMA2000 1x EV-DV technologies,this paper discusses the development trend of broadband wireless access technologies, and concludes that 3G's packet access technologies are the same as IEEE802.16d/e,and AII-IP is the goal.It emphasizes that Chinese TD-SCDMA should develop toward connectionless statistical packet multiplexing as early as possible. 展开更多

Control signaling is mandatory for the operation and management of all types of communication networks,including the Third Generation Partnership Project(3GPP)mobile broadband networks.However,they consume important and scarce network resources such as bandwidth and processing power.There have been several reports of these control signaling turning into signaling storms halting network operations and causing the respective Telecom companies big financial losses.This paper draws its motivation from such real network disaster incidents attributed to signaling storms.In this paper,we present a thorough survey of the causes,of the signaling storm problems in 3GPP-based mobile broadband networks and discuss in detail their possible solutions and countermeasures.We provide relevant analytical models to help quantify the effect of the potential causes and benefits of their corresponding solutions.Another important contribution of this paper is the comparison of the possible causes and solutions/countermeasures,concerning their effect on several important network aspects such as architecture,additional signaling,fidelity,etc.,in the form of a table.This paper presents an update and an extension of our earlier conference publication.To our knowledge,no similar survey study exists on the subject. 展开更多

This paper presents the design and implementation of access controller used for Ethernet passive optical network ( EPON). As a first step to develop an ASIC product, the entire system is designed on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) with an embedded CPU. To reduce working frequency of the FPGA, the byte-to-word conversion is proposed. Propagation delays are equalized by ranging procedure so as to avoid data collision. Implementations of synchronization, classification, as well as Linux porting are illustrated in detail. The interface between the FPGA and CPU are also presented. Experimental results show that the proposed system can properly function in a relatively low cost FPGA. 展开更多

高性能同轴电缆网络(High Performance Network Over Coax,HINOC)技术是一种光纤同轴混合接入技术,已发展至第3代。为了实现万兆以太网的接入速率,第3代HINOC引入了多信道绑定机制。但该机制在有效扩展HINOC网络信道带宽的同时易导致HIM... 高性能同轴电缆网络(High Performance Network Over Coax,HINOC)技术是一种光纤同轴混合接入技术,已发展至第3代。为了实现万兆以太网的接入速率,第3代HINOC引入了多信道绑定机制。但该机制在有效扩展HINOC网络信道带宽的同时易导致HIMAC(HINOC Medium Access Control)拆帧端接收的数据流失序。针对该问题,文中提出了一种拆帧重排序方法。通过重排序队列缓存管理、入队逻辑地址计算、超时判断及清空以及出队判断等关键技术的设计和实现来解决多信道绑定机制引起的拆帧乱序问题,并对其关键功能点进行仿真验证和板级验证。实验结果表明,所提方法能够有效处理多信道绑定导致的乱序问题,并且能够确保系统在遇到错误情况时稳定运行,具有较强的鲁棒性,满足万兆同轴宽带接入HIMAC 3.0的功能和性能要求。 展开更多

Broadband over Power Line (BPL) is an alternative means of providing high-speed Internet access, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and other broadband services to homes and businesses by using the existing medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) power lines. This paper provides a comprehensive understanding about BPL with its implementation prospects. In this context, the existing power grid infrastructures are discussed elaborately. BPL system functionality with its components and its benefits over other access technologies is also pointed out. Implementation scenarios for various deployment options are illustrated here. The different implementation challenges for BPL system, such as the characteristics of power lines, attenuation problem, noise, potential interference with the other radio frequencies are also presented with their remedies. Comparative analysis between several broadband access technologies shows the feasibility of BPL deployments all over the world. 展开更多

The Burst Time Plan(BTP) generation is the key for resource allocation in Broadband Satellite Multimedia(BSM) system.The main purpose of this paper is to minimize the system response time to users' request caused by BTP generation as well as maintain the Quality of Service(QoS) and improve the channel utilization efficiency.Traditionally the BTP is generated periodically in order to simplify the implementation of the resource allocation algorithm.Based on the analysis we find that Periodical BTP Generation(P-BTPG) method cannot guarantee the delay performance,channel utilization efficiency and QoS simultaneously,especially when the capacity requests arrived randomly.The Optimized BTP Generation(O-BTPG) method is given based on the optimal scheduling period and scheduling latency without considering the signaling overhead.Finally,a novel Asynchronous BTP Generation(A-BTPG) method is proposed which is invoked according to users' requests.A BSM system application scenario is simulated.Simulation results show that A-BTPG is a trade-off between the performance and signaling overhead which can improve the system performance insensitive to the traffic pattern.This method can be used in the ATM onboard switching satellite system and further more can be expended to Digital Video Broadcasting-Return Channel Satellite(DVB-RCS) system or IP onboard routing BSM system in the future. 展开更多
