Efficacy of bright light therapy for perinatal depression:A metaanalysis of a randomized controlled trial

BACKGROUND Pharmacological treatments are commonly used in individuals experiencing perinatal depression(PPD);however,a debate regarding the reproductive safety of antidepressants is ongoing.Many pregnant women opt to discontinue antidepressant out of concern about potential negative effects on the developing fetus,while slow and ineffective antidepressant medications hinder improved outcomes in women with PPD.In recent years,bright light therapy(BLT)has gained traction as a treatment option for PPD;however,clinical trials findings examining the efficacy of BLT in this population have been inconclusive.AIM To validate the feasibility and safety of BLT for the treatment of PPD.METHODS We performed a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials of patients with PPD treated with BLT vs placebo following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis.We searched PubMed,Embase,the Cochrane Library,and Web of Science for randomized controlled studies published up to December 2023.The results were evaluated using the standardized mean difference of improvement for depression scores and odds ratios(ORs)for remission rate,response rate,incidence of adverse events,and dropout rate.RESULTS The BLT group had higher PPD response rate[50.68%vs 33.08%;OR=2.05;95% confidence interval(CI):1.25-3.35;P=0.004;I^(2)=35%]and remission rate(54.10%vs 18.52%;OR=5.00;95%CI:2.09-11.99;P=0.0003;I^(2)=0%)than the placebo group.Improvements in depression scores were higher in the BLT group than the placebo group for the overall efficacy(standardized mean difference=-0.47;95%CI:-0.80 to-0.13;P=0.007).No significant differences between the two groups in drop-outs(21.84%vs 29.63%;OR=0.63;95%CI:0.31-1.29;P=0.21;I^(2)=0%)or adverse events(17.89%vs 9.68%;OR=2.01;95%CI:0.95-4.25;P=0.07;I^(2)=0%)were observed.CONCLUSION BLT can potentially treat PPD,showing better results than the control group in this study.BLT is effective and safe and could increase the available therapeutic options for PPD. 展开更多

The hippocampus is a brain region responsible for learning and memory functions. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of low-intensity exercise and bright light exposure on neurogenesis and brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression in adult rat hippocampus. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to control, exercise, light, or exercise + light groups (n = 9 per group). The rats in the exercise group were subjected to treadmill exercise (5 days per week, 30 minutes per day, over a 4-week period), the light group rats were irradiated (5 days per week, 30 minutes per day, 10 000 Ix, over a 4-week period), the exercise + light group rats were subjected to treadmill exercise in combination with bright light exposure, and the control group rats remained sedentary over a 4-week period. Compared with the control group, there was a significant increase in neurogenesis in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of rats in the exercise, light, and exercise + light groups. Moreover, the expression level of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in the rat hippocampal dentate gyrus was significantly higher in the exercise group and light group than that in the control group. Interestingly, there was no significant difference in brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression between the control group and exercise + light group. These results indicate that low-intensity treadmill exercise (first 5 minutes at a speed of 2 m/min, second 5 minutes at a speed of 5 m/min, and the last 20 minutes at a speed of 8 m/min) or bright-light exposure therapy induces positive biochemical changes in the brain. In view of these findings, we propose that moderate exercise or exposure to sunlight during childhood can be beneficial for neural development. 展开更多

Bright light enhances the efficiency of physical activity in combination with a restrictive diet

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of measures aimed at correcting obesity in women and including bright light exposure during aerobic exercise combined with a restrictive diet. A one-stage, randomized study involved 80 obese women aged 20 to 58 years. The inclusion criterion for selecting participants for this research was the presence of primary alimentary-constitutional obesity with body mass index equal to or higher than 30 kg/m2. All the women were distributed into three groups according to the set of applied treatments. In Group 1, the women were on a restrictive diet;in Group 2, the restrictive diet was accompanied with daily aerobic exercise;in Group 3, women were exposed to bright light during exercise. Before and after the treatment course (3 weeks), body weight, waist and hip circumferences were measured;fat amount was determined by the impedancemetry method;and oxygen consumption was determined by indirect calorimetry. Women in Group 1 had reduced body weight, waist and hip circumferences, fat mass and oxygen consumption. Similar changes were identified in women of Group 2, but weight loss was greater, and the level of oxygen consumption increased as compared to the baseline. In women of Group 3, weight loss and increased oxygen consumption were more pronounced than in those of Group 2. The number of metabolic equivalents (MET) in women of Group 3 increased to nearly 1, which corresponded to the value of this index that reflected the resting metabolic rate in patients with normal body weight. Thus, exposure to bright full-spectrum light increases energy metabolism and enhances the effectiveness of exercises, despite prolonged food restriction, which is one of the mechanisms to improve the efficiency of obesity correction. 展开更多

Stabilization of Circadian Rhythm, Its Augmentation by Bright Light Treatment and Its Importance for ADHD and Depression of Adolescents

Objective: ADHD is characterized by the progressive development of, impulsiveness, attentional difficulties and sometimes also excessive hyperactivity. Main biological reason is a quantitative reduction of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the forebrain. A lack of dopamine is also typical for depressive disorders. Methods: Bright light therapy is proven to be effective in treating depression. Purpose of our study is to verify the therapeutic effectiveness of Bright light therapy in subjects affected by ADHD. Results: Results show a significant improvement which lasts for at least 4 weeks, which is superposed by regulation of the circadian rhythm. Initial decrease of especially morning saliva melatonin levels, due to regular sleep under in-patient conditions, is followed by symptom improvement and a raising evening melatonin level, due to activation during the day. This level decreases as soon as activation is ceased. Conclusion: Bright light therapy seems to be effective as add-on therapy for ADHD, but in fact, stabilization of the circadian rhythm is the most important therapeutic intervention, either for ADHD or for depression, as demonstrated in another study. 展开更多

Method: This was a randomized cross-over trial, i.e. that 14 patients received first dim white light (50 lux) one hour a day for one week and then Bright light therapy (2500 Lux) for one week. 14 patients received first Bright light therapy and then dim white light. For assessment of depressive symptoms, Beck depression inventory scales were administered 1 week before and one day before dim white light treatment, on the day between dim white light and bright white light treatment, on the day after bright white light treatment and one week after bright white light treatment. Saliva melatonin and cortisol samples were collected at 08:00 a.m. and 08:00 p.m., 1 week before and one day before dim white light treatment, on the day between dim white light and bright white light treatment, on the day after bright white light treatment and one week after bright white light treatment and assayed for melatonin and cortisol to observe any change in circadian timing. Results: 28 volunteers, between 14 and 17 years old, completed the study. Beck depression inventory scores improved significantly. The assays of morning saliva melatonin showed significant differences between Bright white light and dim white light (p = 0.005), those of evening saliva melatonin and saliva cortisol did not show significant differences. No significant adverse reactions were observed. Conclusion: Antidepressant response to bright light treatment in this age group was statistically superior to dim white 展开更多

The optimal brightness of the device is 69932 cd/m2 at a voltage of 13 V, and the Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates are almost constant during a large voltage change of 6–12 V. Furthermore, a current efficiency of 15.3 cd/A at an illumination-relevant brightness of 1000 cd/m2 is obtained, which rolls off slightly to 13.0 cd/A at an ultra high brightness of 50000 cd/m2. We attribute this great performance to wisely selecting an appropriate spacer together with effectively utilizing the combinations of exciton-harvested orange-phosphorescence/blue-fluorescence in the device. A new luminous material SrAl2O4:Eu^2+,Dy^3+/light conversion agent that can emit red light in the darkness after being excited was fabricated by combining light conversion agent on to SrAl2O4:Eu^2+,Dy^3+ particles through YsiX3.The morphology of the luminous materials was analyzed by scan electron microscopy(SEM).The emission behavior was evaluated by fluorescence spectrophotometric analysis and the results demonstrated that the emission spectra of samples had a redshift compared to SrAl2O4:Eu^2+,Dy^3+ and the emission intensity rose dramatically at first and then decreased when the ratio of light conversion agent doping was over 1.4 wt.%.And the emission color of SrAl2O4:Eu^2+,Dy^3+/light conversion agent was tuned from green(SrAl2O4:Eu^2+,Dy^3+)to orange-red.Furthermore,the afterglow property was also investigated,and the results indicated that the afterglow brightness reached 6.5 cd/m^2,and as the light conversion agent concentration increased the brightness intensity decreased. 展开更多

This paper presents an off-line integrated full ballast to supply a 35W assembly of Power LEDs. The proposed solution integrates an input PFC stage (a flyback converter operating in DCM) and a DC-DC output converter (a buck converter) into a single switch power stage, operating with peak current control. As it will be shown, this control scheme maintains the current through the load constant, regardless of the instantaneous value of the DC link voltage. This issue allows the use of a small capacitor for the DC link, which enhances the overall system reliability. The complete ballast has full dimming capability, and all the analysis and design steps are presented, thus ensuring the fulfilling of the existing regulations. The novelty of the final solution comes from the simplicity and robustness of the control scheme in an integrated compact single-switch power stage. A final prototype of the ballast has been built and tested, and experimental results are shown in the last part of the paper. Finally, conclusions and future developments are shown. 展开更多

为降低公路隧道入口段照明能耗并提升驾驶员的视觉适应性,提出一种基于色温调节的隧道照明动态控制方法.该方法综合考虑洞外亮度、车速、车流量和色温4个关键因素,通过亮度折减系数的动态调节,实现隧道内亮度的智能控制,并与传统分级调... 为降低公路隧道入口段照明能耗并提升驾驶员的视觉适应性,提出一种基于色温调节的隧道照明动态控制方法.该方法综合考虑洞外亮度、车速、车流量和色温4个关键因素,通过亮度折减系数的动态调节,实现隧道内亮度的智能控制,并与传统分级调光法和模糊控制法进行对比分析.结果表明:传统分级调光法虽简单易行,但缺乏动态调节能力,节能性较差;模糊控制法在部分时段存在亮度偏高及规则依赖性强的问题,节能效果一般;而色温控制法在满足照明标准的前提下,通过降低亮度水平实现节能,相比传统分级调光法,节能率高达37.1%,而模糊控制法仅为5.6%.该方法可实现色温与亮度的联动控制,在提升节能性与适应性的同时,有效避免亮度骤变带来的视觉不适和安全隐患,为隧道智能照明控制提供了新思路与理论支持. 展开更多

机器视觉测量明暗场复合照明系统优化设计

为提高机器视觉测量系统的图像质量,本文对明暗场复合照明的光源优化布置问题进行研究。首先,基于朗伯辐射特性和线性叠加原理,首次建立了明暗场复合照明系统的照度分布模型,构建了含变异系数和最小/最大值比双指标的优化目标函数。接着... 为提高机器视觉测量系统的图像质量,本文对明暗场复合照明的光源优化布置问题进行研究。首先,基于朗伯辐射特性和线性叠加原理,首次建立了明暗场复合照明系统的照度分布模型,构建了含变异系数和最小/最大值比双指标的优化目标函数。接着,采用改进的模拟退火-粒子群算法求解最优布置参数,根据优化结果搭建实验平台并测量目标区域照度分布情况。然后,为评估优化方案的实施效果,采集目标区域中工件图像,计算其照度均匀度并与实验结果进行对比分析。实际测得最优照度均匀度为0.9219,与AE-SAPSO算法优化结果的相对误差为2.59%,测得工件表面照度均匀度与实验结果的最大相对误差为3.42%。最后,对比不同缺陷在三种照明方式下,从二值化和均匀度两个角度对本文优化方案进行分析。结果表明,本文提出的光源优化布置方法能有效提升目标区域的光照均匀性。 展开更多

不同强度光疗对老年帕金森病失眠病人睡眠质量的疗效分析

目的探讨不同光照强度的光疗对老年帕金森病失眠病人睡眠质量的影响。方法选取2022年7月至2024年1月南京医科大学第一附属医院收治的伴有失眠的136例老年帕金森病病人为研究对象。采用随机数表法分为4组:高强光组、中等强光组、弱光组... 目的探讨不同光照强度的光疗对老年帕金森病失眠病人睡眠质量的影响。方法选取2022年7月至2024年1月南京医科大学第一附属医院收治的伴有失眠的136例老年帕金森病病人为研究对象。采用随机数表法分为4组:高强光组、中等强光组、弱光组与对照组。对照组实施常规治疗及护理,3个光照组在对照组的基础上,每日16:30—17:00分别辅以10000 Lux、5000 Lux、1000 Lux光疗。于干预后1周、2周、1个月比较4组病人帕金森病睡眠量表(Parkinson Disease Sleep Scale,PDSS)和多导睡眠监测(polysomnography,PSG)情况。结果干预1周时,高强光组、中等强光组间PDSS评分、PSG结果差异无统计学意义(P>0.05),2组PDSS评分和PSG结果中的睡眠效率均显著高于弱光组及对照组,清醒时长、清醒次数低于弱光组及对照组(P<0.05);弱光组的PDSS评分、PSG结果与对照组比较,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05)。干预2周时,中等强光组、弱光组的PDSS评分、PSG结果差异无统计学意义(P>0.05),2组PDSS评分和睡眠效率高于对照组,清醒时长、清醒次数均低于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05);高强光组的PDSS评分和睡眠效率高于中等强光组、弱光组、对照组,清醒时长低于中等强光组、弱光组及对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。干预1个月时,3个光照组的PDSS评分、PSG结果差异无统计学意义(P>0.05),3组睡眠效率高于对照组,清醒时长、清醒次数低于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论更高强度(5000 Lux及以上)的光疗可以使老年帕金森病失眠病人在短期内(1周)取得良好的治疗效果,且短期内光照强度越大,效应量越大。长期坚持每日30 min光疗,1000 Lux及以上光照强度均可改善睡眠质量。 展开更多

针对后置式投影亮分划光学系统在某型微光镜中应用时出现零位走动量超差问题,通过分析该类微光瞄准镜的零位稳定性机理以及开展冲击试验,发现零位走动量超差的主要原因是射击过程中光学系统组合棱镜发生转动,采取将组合棱镜外形尺寸和... 针对后置式投影亮分划光学系统在某型微光镜中应用时出现零位走动量超差问题,通过分析该类微光瞄准镜的零位稳定性机理以及开展冲击试验,发现零位走动量超差的主要原因是射击过程中光学系统组合棱镜发生转动,采取将组合棱镜外形尺寸和安装尺寸公差优化方法,使二者间隙小于0.02 mm,最终微光镜的零位走动量(Δd)小于0.26 mil,满足系统技术指标规定Δd≤0.7 mil要求。给出了同类瞄准镜在设计和生产中对零位走动量控制的关键点及问题解决方案,为提高瞄准镜零位稳定性提供了有效分析依据。 展开更多

针对移动机器人在强光环境运动时易出现特征提取困难,极端光照环境下灰度不变假设失效导致光流跟踪误差较大的问题,提出了一种融合改进高光抑制和光流网络的视觉同步定位与地图构建(VSLAM)算法。首先,为了保证图像光照一致性,设计了一... 针对移动机器人在强光环境运动时易出现特征提取困难,极端光照环境下灰度不变假设失效导致光流跟踪误差较大的问题,提出了一种融合改进高光抑制和光流网络的视觉同步定位与地图构建(VSLAM)算法。首先,为了保证图像光照一致性,设计了一种基于高光注意力机制的高光抑制网络,引导模型关注高光特征信息。其次,针对灰度不变约束的场景受限问题,提出了一种基于蛇形卷积的光流网络,将基于灰度不变假设的光流法与卷积特征相结合,提取并跟踪卷积特征点,从而得到对光照稳健的光流法。最后,在具有光照变换的公开数据集和真实场景中进行验证。实验结果表明,所提算法在KITTI数据集上与OV2SLAM算法相比,绝对轨迹误差平均降低6.86%,相对位姿误差平均降低17.30%;在真实场景中与OV2SLAM算法相比,相对位姿误差降低了13.23%。 展开更多

基于眼动追踪的环境光强度与显示器亮度对视觉行为的影响研究

目的通过眼动追踪技术,探讨不同环境光强度和显示器亮度对飞行员视觉行为的影响,为光环境和显示系统的亮度设计提供支撑。方法于2024年7—12月选取19名军事飞行员为研究对象,在3档环境光强度(微光、中等强度光、强光)下,受试者分别调节... 目的通过眼动追踪技术,探讨不同环境光强度和显示器亮度对飞行员视觉行为的影响,为光环境和显示系统的亮度设计提供支撑。方法于2024年7—12月选取19名军事飞行员为研究对象,在3档环境光强度(微光、中等强度光、强光)下,受试者分别调节显示器亮度(最低、适中、最高),通过眼动仪采集并分析受试者的瞳孔直径、扫视时间、眨眼时间和注视轨迹。结果微光环境下,显示器亮度最低时的瞳孔直径均大于显示器亮度适中和最高时的瞳孔直径(P=0.010、<0.001);显示器亮度适中时的瞳孔直径大于显示器亮度最高时的瞳孔直径(P<0.001)。显示器不同亮度下,微光环境下的瞳孔直径均大于中等强度和强光环境下的瞳孔直径(P均<0.001),显示器亮度最高时,中等强度光环境下的瞳孔直径大于强光环境下的瞳孔直径(P=0.012)。环境光强度和显示器亮度对受试者扫视时间的影响差异无统计学意义(P均>0.05);中等强度环境光下的眨眼时间短于强光环境下的眨眼时间(P=0.019)。不同环境光强度下的注视轨迹有所不同。微光与强光环境下的视线路径更曲折,注视点更多;中等强度光环境下的视线路径更直接。结论环境光强度和显示器亮度对受试者瞳孔直径具有影响,但不会明显影响扫视时间的长短;环境光强度会影响受试者的眨眼时间,但显示器亮度对眨眼时间影响较小;环境光强度不同,受试者的注视轨迹也明显不同。该研究结果可为光环境及显示器亮度的优化设计提供参考。 展开更多

室内环境中存在诸多因素会影响光线的分布和反射,受自然光线影响,窗户、天花板、地板等不同位置的光照差异,导致照明亮度出现非线性特性,自适应控制难度较大。为此,提出基于AI深度学习的室内灯光照明亮度自适应控制方法。利用粒子群优... 室内环境中存在诸多因素会影响光线的分布和反射,受自然光线影响,窗户、天花板、地板等不同位置的光照差异,导致照明亮度出现非线性特性,自适应控制难度较大。为此,提出基于AI深度学习的室内灯光照明亮度自适应控制方法。利用粒子群优化算法寻优室内灯光照度组合策略,在深度置信网络中融入模糊逻辑,将AI深度学习中的模糊深度置信网络和PID控制器相结合,输入室内灯光照度组合优化结果与脉宽调制(Pulse Width Modulation,PWM)控制技术计算得到的调光驱动电流均值,通过网络自适应优化PID控制器比例、积分和微分参数,利用输出层输出室内灯光照明亮度自适应控制结果,完成控制信号的动态调整,从而适应照明亮度的非线性变化。实验结果表明,所提方法补充照度误差更小、能耗更低、PID控制器性能更优异。 展开更多
