In this paper we highlight how the apparent double coverage of toxins and bioregulators by both the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention(BTWC)and the Chemical Weapons Convention(CWC)in fact masks a regulatory gap that has left such potentially dangerous agents neglected by both the control regimes during a period of rapid advances in relevant chemical, life and associated sciences and technologies. We first review what toxins, bioregulators and other mid-spectrum agents are and why they are of such concern and then examine how they are regulated under the BTWC and CWC.This paper then examines an illustrative range of contemporary chemical and life science research and associated activities of concern drawn from case study research on China,India,Iran,Russia,Syria and the United States, and assesses how the CWC and BTWC States Parties have inadequately addressed these threats. We then examine how both the CWC and BTWC Review Conferences failed to address these long-term challenges, and we end by providing a series of recommendations for how both regimes can be strengthened in this area. 展开更多

In addition to essential macronutrients and micronutrients, bioregulators, biostimulants or bioactivators are being increasingly used on agricultural crops with important outcomes. Therefore, improved knowledge on the functioning of these chemicals on plants is needed. Based on the assumption that foliar fertilizers applied at specific times promote soybean growth, development and yield, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the biometric, biomass, physiological, nutritional and grain yield parameters to increase knowledge about specific fertilizers applied alone or in combination and at different stages of soybean growth and development. The present study was performed in partnership between the Goiano Federal Institute (Instituto Federal Goiano), Campus Rio Verde, state of Goiás (GO), Brazil, and the company Tecno Nutricao Vegetal e Biotecnologia Ltda. A randomized block experimental design was used with four replicates. The biometric, physiological, nutritional and yield data were subjected to analysis of variance followed by Tukey’s test when significant differences were found at p 0.05 using the SISVAR software. In the emergency and early use of Tonik combined with Nodumax and PreventCoMo, in the vegetative phase, the Lumix combined with Vivat or VivatMn in the reproductive stage of flowering, 2 application Tripper combined with VivatB at a dose of 500 ml·ha-1 and reproductive phase of grain filling, 2 application Apport at a dose of 500 g·ha-1 gave the best results. 展开更多

There are documentary records referring to paclobutrazol(PBZ)as a growth bioregulator that inhibits the gibberellin synthesis and its application increases yields in fruit and vegetable crop productions. Its agronomic management includes it as an emerging technology to reduce vigour, promote flower induction and flower development in fruit trees with increased economic returns. Its use is banned in some countries because of concerns about residues that can cause harmful effects on the environment. Therefore, the aim of this article was to collect, analyse and summarise relevant information on the use of PBZ in fruit tree production and its possible risks to the environment. The results obtained indicated that the application of PBZ can be effective in solving some problems related to flowering if it is applied in the right amount and at the right time. However,it is necessary to elucidate the physiological processes with which it is associated and its response to be taken into account to increase yield.PBZ is currently used in fruit trees such as mango, lime, apple and guava, increasing their productivity. However, some studies have shown its residual effect on the environment. Therefore,PBZ is a viable strategy, because it presents a series of advantages in the production of fruit trees. However,it is vital to generate protocols that seek its regulation with a rational and sustainable approach. 展开更多

Herbaceous peony(Paeonia lactiflora Pall.)is an important ornamental plant worldwide. In its natural state,P.lactiflora often manifests traits like rapidly elongating internodal growth, loose plant types, and soft inflorescence stems. However, very little has been known about the measures for controlling these traits. This study investigated the effect of applying paclobutrazol(PBZ)on the plant growth and flower quality in P.lactiflora.The results indicated that PBZ application reduced the plant height(8.05%),plant crown width(14.72%),and leaf area(10.90%),but increased the leaf thickness(18.18%)and stem diameter(over 11%)in P.lactiflora.Meanwhile,PBZ application was also found to increase the chlorophyll(Chl)a(29.63%),Chl b(33.33%),Chl a+b(30.56%),SPAD(27.32%),relative water content(0.47%),soluble sugar(5.09%)and activities of three antioxidant enzymes(superoxide dismutase 169.66%,peroxidase 3.59%,catalase 319.30%),but decreased the relative electrical conductivity(18.52%).Additionally,the application of PBZ was found to affect the flowering quality of P.lactiflora, increasing the flower diameter and fresh weight only in the flower-bud stage. This initiates the bloom stage, where there was a decrease in the total content of the aromatic compounds except for the flower-bud stage, and faded the flower color by reducing the content of anthocyanin. These results demonstrated that the application of PBZ can regulate the P.lactiflora plant types with no significant decrease in its ornamental values. This might provide a theoretical basis for further applying PBZ in P.lactiflora for use in urban landscape spaces. 展开更多
