Development of Combined Biological Technology for Treatment of High-strength Organic Wastewater and Results of Case Studies

Our study group has developed a unique combined ters from the industries of dyestuff, pharmaceutical, chemical biological technology to treat high-strength organic wastewaengineering and zymolysis by using the principles of anaerobic ecological niche and bio-phase separation. The study obtained five national invention patents and eight patent equipments. This technology contains four kernel processes - two-phase anaerobic-aerobic process, hydrolysis-acidification-oxidation process, UASBAF-oxidation process, and internal cycling-hydrolysis-oxidation process. Fifteen pilot projects were accomplished in the basins of Tai Lake, Huai River, Liao River and Songhua River, and their total capital investment reached 185.214 million Yuan (RMB). Compared to conventional wastewater treatment technology, the innovative technology is more costeffective for high-strength organic wastewater treatment, can save capital investment by 15% - 30%, lessen land usage by 20% to 40% and decrease the operating cost by 10% to 25%. The operating cost of treatment per cubic meter industrial wastewater could be below 0.6 to 1.4 Yuan (RMB). 展开更多

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is now experiencing ecological degradation risks as a result of climate change and human activities.The alpine grassland ecology in permafrost zones is fragile and susceptible to deterioration due to its high altitude,low temperature,and limited oxygen,which complicates the repair of damaged land.Biological soil crusts(BSCs)are crucial for land restoration in plateau regions because they can thrive in harsh conditions and have environmentally beneficial traits.Inoculated biological soil crust(IBSC)has shown success in low-altitude desert regions,but may not be easily duplicated to the plateau environment.Therefore,it is essential to do a comprehensive and multifaceted analysis of the basic theoretical comprehension and practical application of BSCs on the Tibetan Plateau.This review article aims to provide a brief summary of the ecological significance and the mechanisms related to the creation,growth,and progression of BSCs.It discusses the techniques used for cultivating BSCs in laboratories and using them in the field,focusing on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau circumstance.We thoroughly discussed the potential and the required paths for further studies.This study may be used as a basis for selecting suitable microbial strains and accompanying supplemental actions for implementing IBSCs in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. 展开更多

Wastes yielded in the vintage process and the biological fermentation of itaconic acid and sodium gluconate of a winery in Shandong, such as grain stillage, melon lees, cornstarch protein residues, itacanic acid mother liquid, itaconic acid mycelium and sodium gluconate mycelium, were studied. High-activity biological protein feed, foliar fertilizer and irrigation fertilizer were generated from these wastes by applying biological/microbial technologies. Meanwhile, a whole set of technological pathways was put forward. As a result, the optimal economical and social benefits can be obtained with low natural resource consumption and environmental costs by converting wastes into useful matters. In conclusion, through the utilization of limited resources in the whole process of reclamation and utilization of wastes, the harmony promotion can be achieved between the economic system and the natural ecosystem. 展开更多

Malodorous gases not only cause serious impact on the ecological environment, but also harm the respiratory system, circulatory system, digestive system and endocrine system, which will cause disorders and lesions of central nervous system, make people restless, lose concentration, reduce work efficiency, reduce judgment and memory, affect nervous system, and cause chronic diseases and acute diseases. Because the components of malodorous gases are too complex, the treatment is difficult. At present, the main deodorization techniques can be divided into physical, chemical and biological methods. The principle of the treatment technique is to change the molecular structure or existing state of malodorous gases to eliminate malodor. In the actual industrial production process, the malodorous gas treatment methods include combustion method, oxidation method, absorption method, adsorption method, neutralization method and biological method. Bio-trickling filtration is one of the biological methods. It takes into account the biological deodorization technology of both biological filter and biological washing tank. The malodorous gases enter the bio-trickling filter after pre-treatment such as condensation, gas-liquid separation and oxidation. When malodorous gas passes through the packing layer with biomembranes, malodorous substances in the gas are absorbed by the circulating liquid, and the circulating liquid and microorganisms attached on the surface of the packing are adsorbed and absorbed, so as to achieve the purpose of eliminating and purifying the malodorous gas. The common process in the biological method can effectively decompose various malodorous components, and has the advantages of low operation cost, strong safety, simple operation and the like. The application of biotechnology in the treatment of malodorous gases is studied and analyzed in this paper. 展开更多

Now it is faced with serious pollution of petroleum in Hougao area. Aiming at this problem, the petroleum pollution in aeration zone and in groundwater was analyzed. The result shows that the contaminant of groundwater comes from the leaching of petroleum in the soil horizon of aeration zone through precipitation, and the quick flow of groundwater makes the convection dominate themigration of contaminant. So movement of groundwater controls the distribution of petroleum contaminant, which is consistent with the direction of ground flow. Building a groundwater closure zone in Hougao is an effective method to stop the contaminated groundwater flowing toward the water supply source of Dawu. The petroleum contaminant can be effectively reduced through using the aeration, biological and oxidation technologies. 展开更多

Bioinformatics screening of breast cancer-related genes and potential drug research

Objective:To search the the differentially expressed genes between breast cell carcinoma tissues and normal tissues by using bioinformatics technology,and the potential therapeutic drugs for breast cancer were identified,which can provide reference for clinical immune targeted therapy and drug therapy of breast cancer in the future.Methods:"Breast cancer"was searched by using Gene Expression Omnibus(GEO),and GSE79586 chip data was downloaded.The differentially expressed genes in the control group and the breast cancer model group were screened by using bio-communication technology and subjected to GO function analysis,KEGG pathway analysis,differential gene characteristic expression analysis and protein-protein interaction network(PPI)analysis,and the analysis results were further visualized.Prognosis analysis,related function prediction and immune infiltration analysis were performed using the GEPIA,GeneMANIA,and Timer2.0 databases,respectively.Finally,the compounds with potential therapeutic effects on breast cancer are identified through Connectivity Map(CMap).Western blotting and real-time PCR(RT-PCR)were used to verify the core genes and potential therapeutic agents with the highest correlation in vitro.Results:A total of 3916 differentially expressed genes including 1786 up-regulated genes and 2130 down-regulated genes were screened.GO analysis showed that the differential genes were mainly involved in the positive regulation of phosphorylation,secretory vesicles,racemase and epimerase activities.KEGG analysis showed that differential genes were involved in systemic lupus erythematosus,alcoholism,sticky spots,amoebic dysentery Ras signal pathways and other disease pathways.The characteristic expression analysis of differential genes showed that MEK inhibitors,HSP90 inhibitors and signal transduction pathway kinase inhibitors were drugs similar to the differential genes.PPI results showed that H2AFJ,TFF1,GATA3,FOXA1,and CDH1 were core genes related to breast cancer.Two core genes of H2AFJ and TFF1 with the highest correlation were further selected for GEPIA analysis.The results of the analysis showed that the mRNA expression levels of H2AFJ and TFF1 in breast cancer cells were significantly higher than those in normal tissues,and there was a significant correlation with the pathological staging,overall survival rate and disease-free survival rate of breast cancer patients.H2AFJ and TFF1 may be potential prognostic biomarkers for survival of breast cancer patients.The functions of differentially expressed H2AFJ and TFF1 are mainly related to hormone receptor binding,epithelial structure maintenance and epigenetic negative regulation of genes,chromatin tissue involved in negative regulation of transcription,etc.The results of immune infiltration showed that the expressions of H2AFJ and TFF1 had a significant correlation with the infiltration of macrophages,neutrophils,monocytes,CD4+T,CD8+T,B lymphocytes and other immune cells.CMap results showed that compounds such as Gefitinib,Alpelisib,Sorafenib,and Sunitinib had potential therapeutic effects on breast cancer.Western blot and RT-PCR results showed that H2AFJ and TFF1 were significantly overexpressed in breast cancer cells.Gefitinib significantly inhibited the expression of H2AFJ and TFF1 in breast cancer cells(P<0.05,P<0.01).Conclusion:In this study,differentially expressed genes between breast cell carcinoma tissues and normal tissues were screened out by bioinformatics means to further identify key genes and compounds with potential therapeutic effects in the onset process of breast cancer and to further verify the effectiveness of the screened drugs on breast cancer through experiments.It will provide reference for clinical research and development of new drugs against breast cancer in the future in order to develop more effective treatment options. 展开更多

Aerobic granular sludge(AGS)is a neoteric wastewater treatment technology.The organic loading rate(OLR)exhibits a critical effect on the AGS formation process.The special role of OLR on AGS is rarely established,especially in a complicated environment.This work explored the influence of OLR on the AGS system under a micro-electric stimulation environment.The dynamic OLR affected the behaviors of AGS and reactor performance.AGS cultured under a dynamic OLR environment showed a more compact structure and the AGS system displayed an excellent capacity in removing pollutants.The stable texture of AGS is related to the extracellular polymeric substance(EPS).The main constitutions of EPS include tryptophan protein,tyrosine protein,humic acid-like substance,and fulvic acid-like substance.The OLR-varied environment may provide a selective condition,impacting the microbial population.The prevail bacteria were Allorhizobium-Neorhizobium-Pararhizobium-Rhizobium(21.98%),Lactococcus(23.93%),and Chryseobacterium(5.58%)in OLRvaried AGS system.The evolution of the microbial population induced the change in bacterial community functions,such as carbohydrate metabolism,replication and repair,and membrane transport functions.This work provides valuable insights into the OLR on AGS processes,helping to the stability of AGS-based systems. 展开更多
