Total score of the computer vision syndrome questionnaire predicts refractive errors and binocular vision anomalies

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of the total computer vision syndrome questionnaire(CVS-Q)score as a predictive tool for identifying individuals with symptomatic binocular vision anomalies and refractive errors.METHODS:A total of 141 healthy computer users underwent comprehensive clinical visual function assessments,including evaluations of refractive errors,accommodation(amplitude of accommodation,positive relative accommodation,negative relative accommodation,accommodative accuracy,and accommodative facility),and vergence(phoria,positive and negative fusional vergence,near point of convergence,and vergence facility).Total CVS-Q scores were recorded to explore potential associations between symptom scores and the aforementioned clinical visual function parameters.RESULTS:The cohort included 54 males(38.3%)with a mean age of 23.9±0.58y and 87 age-matched females(61.7%)with a mean age of 23.9±0.53y.The multiple regression model was statistically significant[R²=0.60,F=13.28,degrees of freedom(DF=17122,P<0.001].This indicates that 60%of the variance in total CVS-Q scores(reflecting reported symptoms)could be explained by four clinical measurements:amplitude of accommodation,positive relative accommodation,exophoria at distance and near,and positive fusional vergence at near.CONCLUSION:The total CVS-Q score is a valid and reliable tool for predicting the presence of various nonstrabismic binocular vision anomalies and refractive errors in symptomatic computer users. 展开更多

AIM:To evaluate the differences in near point of convergence(NPC),fusional vergence,saccadic eye movements,versional eye movements,and heterophoria between patients diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease(PD)and healthy subjects.METHODS:A cross-sectional comparative study was conducted,enrolling two cohorts:a PD group and a healthy control group.The PD group was recruited via non-random convenience sampling,while the control group was selected randomly from individuals without PD.All participants were screened according to predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria before undergoing a comprehensive optometric assessment,which included measurements of uncorrected visual acuity,corrected visual acuity,and objective and subjective refraction.Subsequently,binocular vision function evaluations were performed,covering NPC measurement,fusional vergence reserve assessment at both distance and near,saccadic eye movement testing,and versional eye movement and heterophoria assessment.RESULTS:A total of 42 PD patients and 41 healthy controls were included in the final analysis.The two groups were well-matched in terms of sex distribution[29 males(69.0%)in the PD group vs 29 males(70.7%)in the control group,P=0.867]and mean age(55.3±9.6y in the PD group vs 54.9±9.8y in the control group,P=0.866).The prevalence of abnormal versional eye movements was significantly higher in the PD group than in the control group(23.81%,95%CI:12.05%-39.45%vs 7.32%,95%CI:1.54%-19.92%;P=0.025).Near exophoria was more prevalent in PD patients(61.90%,95%CI:45.64%-76.43%)than in controls(17.07%,95%CI:7.15%-32.06%),with a significant difference[odds ratio(OR)=7.99;95%CI:2.83-21.99;P<0.001].The mean NPC was significantly greater(more receded)in the PD group than in the control group(9.01±3.74 cm vs 7.20±2.15 cm;P=0.007).A statistically significant positive correlation was observed between PD severity and NPC values(Pearson’s correlation coefficient=0.309;P=0.046).Except for distance baseout break and distance base-out recovery values,all other fusional vergence parameters were significantly lower in the PD group than in the control group(P<0.05).The mean saccadic test score was significantly lower in PD patients than in controls(3.29±0.57 vs 3.78±0.42;P<0.001).Among all fusional vergence indices,near base-in blur yielded the highest area under the curve(AUC=0.877),with a sensitivity of 69%and specificity of 90%,followed by distance base-out blur(AUC=0.824,sensitivity=97.6%,specificity=66.7%),near base-out blur(AUC=0.814,sensitivity=76.2%,specificity=72.7%),near base-out break(AUC=0.749,sensitivity=78.6%,specificity=67.6%),and near base-out recovery(AUC=0.749,sensitivity=95.2%,specificity=50%).CONCLUSION:PD is associated with significant binocular vision function impairment,with receded NPC and reduced near fusional vergence reserves being the most prominent disorders.These findings highlight the potential value of binocular vision assessment as a non-invasive biomarker for the early detection and clinical monitoring of PD. 展开更多

AIM:To evaluate the effects of refractive errors and binocular vision anomalies on the quality of life(QOL)of university students.METHODS:This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on university students using simple random sampling.Objective refraction,ocular alignment,vergence and accommodative performance were measured and assessed in all participants.Data on QOL were collected using the College of Optometrists in Vision Development-Quality of Life(COVD-QOL)Questionnaire.The effect of mentioned parameters on the QOL were evaluated.RESULTS:Totally 726 students with mean age of 21.35±1.88y were evaluated in this study,51.5%of whom were female.Esophoria was caused significantly lower QOL in the domains of somatic symptoms and occupationalphysical symptoms(P<0.05);Besides,esotropia decreased QOL in domains of somatic symptoms P=0.002 and psychological factors(P=0.023).Students with accommodation insufficiency experienced more symptoms in all domains(P<0.05)except for psychological factors(P=0.07).Increasing in the near point of convergence and accommodation and decreases QOL and increasing accommodative facility increases QOL(all P<0.05).Myopia and astigmatism cause decrease in QOL(both P<0.05),but hyperopic students had better QOL in comparison with others(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Screening programs and treatment of refractive errors and binocular vision anomalies,especially phoria and accommodative insufficiency,positively impact the QOL and academic achievements of university students. 展开更多

Cluster warhead has become the main ammunition of gun,rocket projectile and missile and it has been widely equipped in almost every country.More and more attention is paid to the damage effect of cluster warhead.The size of the dispersion area of cluster warhead is the main standard by which the damage effect of cluster warhead is estimated.The practical method of measuring the dispersion area was developed based on binocular stereo vision measurement theory.The calibration principle of the binocular stereo vision cameras was studied.The matching algorithm that relies on the gradient fields of the neighborhood of a pixel has been used to obtain the spatial information of matched points by acquiring apair of corresponding points in the left and right images of binocular cameras.The 3Dpositions of the flying path of cluster warhead were calculated.The umbrella that is similar to the dispersion track of static explosive cluster warhead was applied in the experiment to get the projection area of the umbrella on the ground.Experiment results verify the feasibility of the proposed method. 展开更多

In order to improve the low positioning accuracy and execution efficiency of the robot binocular vision,a binocular vision positioning method based on coarse-fine stereo matching is proposed to achieve object positioning.The random fern is used in the coarse matching to identify objects in the left and right images,and the pixel coordinates of the object center points in the two images are calculated to complete the center matching.In the fine matching,the right center point is viewed as an estimated value to set the search range of the right image,in which the region matching is implemented to find the best matched point of the left center point.Then,the similar triangle principle of the binocular vision model is used to calculate the 3D coordinates of the center point,achieving fast and accurate object positioning.Finally,the proposed method is applied to the object scene images and the robotic arm grasping platform.The experimental results show that the average absolute positioning error and average relative positioning error of the proposed method are 8.22 mm and 1.96%respectively when the object's depth distance is within 600 mm,the time consumption is less than 1.029s.The method can meet the needs of the robot grasping system,and has better accuracy and robustness. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Medical robot is a promising surgical tool,but no specific one has been designed for interventional treatment of chronic pain.We developed a computed tomography-image based navigation robot using a new registration method with binocular vision.This kind of robot is appropriate for minimal invasive interventional procedures and easy to operate.The feasibility,accuracy and stability of this new robot need to be tested.AIM To assess quantitatively the feasibility,accuracy and stability of the binocularstereo-vision-based navigation robot for minimally invasive interventional procedures.METHODS A box model was designed for assessing the accuracy for targets at different distances.Nine(three sets)lead spheres were embedded in the model as puncture goals.The entry-to-target distances were set 50 mm(short-distance),100 mm(medium-distance)and 150 mm(long-distance).Puncture procedure was repeated three times for each goal.The Euclidian error of each puncture was calculated and statistically analyzed.Three head phantoms were used to explore the clinical feasibility and stability.Three independent operators conducted foramen ovale placement on head phantoms(both sides)by freehand or under the guidance of robot(18 punctures with each method).The operation time,adjustment time and one-time success rate were recorded,and the two guidancemethods were compared.RESULTS On the box model,the mean puncture errors of navigation robot were 1.7±0.9 mm for the short-distance target,2.4±1.0 mm for the moderate target and 4.4±1.4 mm for the long-distance target.On the head phantom,no obvious differences in operation time and adjustment time were found among the three performers(P>0.05).The median adjustment time was significantly less under the guidance of the robot than under free hand.The one-time success rate was significantly higher with the robot(P<0.05).There was no obvious difference in operation time between the two methods(P>0.05).CONCLUSION In the laboratory environment,accuracy of binocular-stereo-vision-based navigation robot is acceptable for target at 100 mm depth or less.Compared with freehand,foramen ovale placement accuracy can be improved with robot guidance. 展开更多

AIM:To investigate the frequency and associated factors of accommodation and non-strabismic binocular vision dysfunction among medical university students.METHODS:Totally 158 student volunteers underwent routine vision examination in the optometry clinic of Guangxi Medical University.Their data were used to identify the different types of accommodation and nonstrabismic binocular vision dysfunction and to determine their frequency.Correlation analysis and logistic regression were used to examine the factors associated with these abnormalities.RESULTS:The results showed that 36.71%of the subjects had accommodation and non-strabismic binocular vision issues,with 8.86%being attributed to accommodation dysfunction and 27.85%to binocular abnormalities.Convergence insufficiency(CI)was the most common abnormality,accounting for 13.29%.Those with these abnormalities experienced higher levels of eyestrain(χ2=69.518,P<0.001).The linear correlations were observed between the difference of binocular spherical equivalent(SE)and the index of horizontal esotropia at a distance(r=0.231,P=0.004)and the asthenopia survey scale(ASS)score(r=0.346,P<0.001).Furthermore,the right eye's SE was inversely correlated with the convergence of positive and negative fusion images at close range(r=-0.321,P<0.001),the convergence of negative fusion images at close range(r=-0.294,P<0.001),the vergence facility(VF;r=-0.234,P=0.003),and the set of negative fusion images at far range(r=-0.237,P=0.003).Logistic regression analysis indicated that gender,age,and the difference in right and binocular SE did not influence the emergence of these abnormalities.CONCLUSION:Binocular vision abnormalities are more prevalent than accommodation dysfunction,with CI being the most frequent type.Greater binocular refractive disparity leads to more severe eyestrain symptoms. 展开更多

Propeller blade width measurement has been extensively studied in the past using direct and indirect methods, and it plays a great role in determining the quality of the finished products. It has surveyed that previous techniques are usually time-consuming and erroneous due to a large number of points to be processed in blade width measurement. This paper proposes a new method of measuring blade width using two images acquired from different viewpoints of the same blade. And a new feature points matching approach for propeller blade image is proposed in stereo vision measurement. Based on these, pixel coordinates of contour points of the blade in two images are extracted and converted to real world coordinates by image algorithm and binocular stereo machine vision theory. Then, from the real world coordinates, the blade width at any position can be determined by simple geometrical method. 展开更多

In nowadays society,the safety of the elderly population is becoming a pressing concern,especially for those who live alone.There might be daily risks such as accidental falling or treatment attack on them.Aiming at these problems,indoor positioning could be a critical way to monitor their states.With the rapidly development of the imaging techniques,wearable and portable cameras are very popular,which could be set on human individual.And in view of the advantages of the visual positioning,the authors propose a binocular visual positioning algorithm to real-timely locate the elderly indoor.In this paper,the imaging model has been established with the corrected image data from the binocular camera;then feature extraction has been completed to provide reference to adjacent image matching based on the binary robust independent elementary feature(BRIEF)descriptor,finally the camera movement and the states of the elderly have been estimated to distinguish their falling risk.In the experiments,the real-sense D435i sensors were adopted as the binocular cameras to obtain indoor images,and three experimental scenarios have been carried out to test the proposed method.The results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively locate the elderly indoor and improve the real-time monitoring capability. 展开更多

In this paper,we consider eyes from the human binocular system,that simultaneously gaze on stationary point targets in space,while optimalal skipping from one target to the next,by rotaing their individual gaze drecton.The head is assume fixed on the torso and the rotaing gaze direction of the two eyes are assumed restricted to pass through a point in the visual space.It is further assumed that,individullly the rotations of the two eyes satisfy the well known Listing's law.We formulate and study acombined optimal gaze rotation for the two eyes,by constructing a single Riemanmian metric,on the asociaced parameter space.The goal is to optimally rotate so that the convergent gaze changes between two pre-specified target points in a finite time interval[0,1].The cost function we choose is the total energy,measured by the L2?norm,of the six extenal torques on the binocular system.The torque functions are synthesized by solving an associated*two-point boundary value problem.The paper demonstrates,via simulation,the shape of the optimal gaze trajectory of the focused point of the bin-ocular system.The Euclidean distance between the initial and the final point is compared to the arc:length of the optimal trajectory.The consumed energy.is computed for diferent eye movement chores and discussed in the paper.Via simulation we observe that certain eye movement maneuvers are energy fficicnt and demonstrate that the optimal external torque is a linear function in time.We also explore and conclude that spitting an arbitry opimal eye movement into optimal vergence and version components is not energy fficient although this is how the human oculomotor control seems to operate.Opimal gaze tajectories and opimal extermal torque functions reported in this paper is new. 展开更多

The values of these tests were compared between the two groups. The independent t test was applied at a confidence level of95%.·RESULTS: The far and near FC amplitudes and far FD amplitudes were lower in the AHP group(the far FC amplitudes: break point 13.6±5.4~△, recovery point 8.7±5.4~△.The near FC amplitudes: break point 14.5 ±7.3~△, recovery point 10. 3 ± 5. 1~△. The far FD amplitudes : break point3.9±2.7~△, recovery point 2.6±2.3~△) compared with those in the normal group(the far FC amplitudes: break point19.1 ±6.2△, recovery point 12.4 ±4.5~△. The near FC amplitudes: break point 22.3 ±8.0~△, recovery point 16.1 ±5.7~△. The far FD amplitudes: break point 7.0 ±2.1~△,recovery point 4.6 ±1.9~△). Other tests presented no statistically significant differences.·CONCLUSION: An association between the reduced FC and FD amplitudes and the AHP in children when watching TV is proposed in the study. This kind of AHP is considered to be an anomalous manifestation which appears in a part of puerile patients of fusional vergence dysfunction. 展开更多

Based on the dual-perspective imaging of virtual binocular stereo vision, the 3D behavior characteristics of bubbles in gas-liquid two-phase flow are studied in detail, which effectively increases the projection information of bubbles to acquire more accurate behavior features. In this paper, the variations of bubble equivalent diameter, volume, velocity and trajectory in the rising process are estimated, and the factors affecting bubble behavior characteristics are analyzed. It is shown that the method is real-time and valid, the equivalent diameter of the rising bubble in the stagnant water is periodically changed, and the crests and troughs in the equivalent diameter curve appear alternately. The bubble behavior characteristics as well as the spiral amplitude are affected by the orifice diameter and the gas volume flow. 展开更多

In order to quickly and efficiently get the information of the bottom of the shoe pattern and spraying trajectory, the paper proposes a method based on binocular stereo vision. After acquiring target image, edge detection based on the canny algorithm, the paper begins stereo matching based on area and characteristics of algorithm. To eliminate false matching points, the paper uses the principle of polar geometry in computer vision. For the purpose of gaining the 3D point cloud of spraying curve, the paper adopts the principle of binocular stereo vision 3D measurement, and then carries on cubic spline curve fitting. 双目视觉系统通过两个相机同时拍摄的二维图像,建立起图像上指定工作空间中目标点所占像素点与三维空间中位姿的对应关系。传统的双目视觉定位过程包括双目相机标定、图像特征点提取与配准,以及通过特征点计算目标物体的三维位姿。针对... 双目视觉系统通过两个相机同时拍摄的二维图像,建立起图像上指定工作空间中目标点所占像素点与三维空间中位姿的对应关系。传统的双目视觉定位过程包括双目相机标定、图像特征点提取与配准,以及通过特征点计算目标物体的三维位姿。针对现有的双目视觉系统提出结构和算法方面改进,旨在减小过程误差以提升定位精度。首先针对系统结构参数(如基线距离和夹角)对定位误差的影响,建立了数学模型并引入公共视野参数,通过MATLAB仿真确定了参数的最优取值,使系统总误差最小化。在算法优化方面,针对不可见光图像特征点稀少的问题,使用基于改进的霍夫圆检测评价函数作为特征点提取算法,提出了相对距离检测法,以提高特征点匹配的准确性。进一步结合光流法计算三维速度,并采用粒子滤波将位姿估计与速度信息相结合,增强了系统在动态环境下的稳定性和精度。实验部分通过搭建由UR机械臂、双目视觉系统和超声探头外壳组成的验证平台,进行了定位模块标定、手眼标定以及运动轨迹验证。实验结果显示,优化后的双目视觉系统在设定的工作空间内运动,轨迹误差由±0.43 mm降低为±0.22 mm,系统定位精度显著提高,验证了所提算法和结构优化的有效性。 展开更多

Aerodynamic parameters obtained from separation experiments of internal stores in a wind tunnel are significant in aircraft designs. Accurate wind tunnel tests can help to improve the release stability of the stores and in-flight safety of the aircrafts in supersonic environments.A simulative system for free drop experiments of internal stores based on a practical project is provided in this paper. The system contains a store release mechanism, a control system and an attitude measurement system. The release mechanism adopts a six-bar linkage driven by a cylinder, which ensures the release stability. The structure and initial aerodynamic parameters of the stores are also designed and adjusted. A high speed vision measurement system for high speed rolling targets is utilized to measure the pose parameters of the internal store models and an optimizing method for the coordinates of markers is presented based on a priori model. The experimental results show excellent repeatability of the system, and indicate that the position measurement precision is less than0.13 mm, and the attitude measurement precision for pitch and yaw angles is less than 0.126°, satisfying the requirements of practical wind tunnel tests. A separation experiment for the internal stores is also conducted in the FL-3 wind tunnel of China Aerodynamics Research Institute. 展开更多

Prevalence of heterophoria,tropia,and near point of convergence abnormality in a high school student population in Erbil city center

AIM:To determine the prevalence of tropia,phoria,and abnormality of near point of convergence(NPC),along with associated ocular symptoms,in high school students.METHODS:This cross-sectional study was conducted in Erbil,Iraq.The target population consisted of high school students selected through a multi-stage cluster sampling method.Comprehensive visual examinations were performed for all students,including measurement of uncorrected and corrected visual acuity,objective and subjective refraction,and distance and near cover tests.NPC was evaluated using a single 6/12 visual target mounted on a centrally positioned Gulden fixation stick.Ocular symptoms were investigated through interviews.RESULTS:Of the 996 selected students,921 participated in the study.Of them,543(58.96%)were female,and their ages ranged from 13 to 22y.The prevalence of tropia was 3.58%[95%confidence interval(CI):2.38%-4.78%],observed in 3.44%of males and 3.68%of females.Exotropia(1.95%,95%CI:1.06%-2.85%)was more common than esotropia(1.52%,95%CI:0.73%-2.31%).The 15.42%(95%CI:13.09%-17.75%)of students had phoria.Exophoria(13.79%,95%CI:11.56%-16.02%)was significantly more prevalent than esophoria(1.63%,95%CI:0.81%-2.45%).The prevalence of NPC abnormality in the total study population was 24.97%(95%CI:22.18%-27.77%).It was 26.72%(95%CI:22.26%-31.18%)in males and 23.76%(95%CI:20.18%-27.34%)in females(P=0.307).The most common symptom in phoria was headache(86.62%,95%CI:81.02%-92.22%),followed by tired or sore eyes(61.97%,95%CI:53.99%-69.96%).The most common symptoms in tropia were blurry vision(93.94%,95%CI:79.77%-99.26%)and difficulty concentrating(87.88%,95%CI:76.74%-99.01%).CONCLUSION:Among Erbil’s high school students,the prevalence of strabismus,particularly the exodeviation type,is relatively high,and a significant percentage of students have NPC abnormalities.Addressing and correcting these binocular vision problems,due to their associated visual symptoms,can lead to an improvement in students’quality of life and academic performance. 展开更多

Due to strong vibrations and the impact on high-speed vehicles,road potholes may cause discomfort to passengers,damaging the durability of the suspension and the integrity of the cargo.Therefore,a road pothole detection system is proposed,which uses deep learning and binocular vision for precise detection in the front.6,848 road surface pothole condition recognition datasets were constructed using a vehicle mounted binocular camera.The group attention shuffle block(GASB)is designed to enhance the expression of channel and spatial feature information in road images,while improving the existing shuffling network(ShuffleNetv2).This establishes a ShuffleNetv2(GASB-ShuffleNetv2)model based on mixed attention for recognizing the state of road potholes.The experimental results show that the model has better accuracy than the basic model and can effectively detect road potholes.In addition,we replaced the ordinary convolution in the CenterNet feature extraction network with pyramid convolution with multiple receptive fields,and designed a feature fusion module in the same network to fuse low-level and high-level features related to holes,thus establishing a PF-CenterNet that combines pyramid convolution with feature fusion to detect areas containing road potholes.A pothole distance estimation model based on binocular vision was established by analyzing the stereo ranging model and semi-global block matching algorithm.After parameter calibration,images were rectified and stereo-matched to generate a disparity map.This map was optimized using a weighted least squares filter to fill blank areas.The 3D coordinates are then calculated based on the disparity provided with distance information.Finally,vehicle experiments were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm in meeting detection requirements while considering long-range perception accuracy.The experimental results show that the system can meet the needs of unmanned vehicles,enabling them to perceive potholes in advance,thereby issuing timely warnings to drivers. 展开更多
