Objective:This observational study deciphered the dynamic remodeling of gastrointestinal functional homeostasis during Daoist fasting(Bigu)through convergent analysis of physiometric biomarkers and psychosomatic perce...Objective:This observational study deciphered the dynamic remodeling of gastrointestinal functional homeostasis during Daoist fasting(Bigu)through convergent analysis of physiometric biomarkers and psychosomatic perception profiles,thereby unmasking the neuro-endocrine-immune regulatory mechanisms underlying the Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)doctrine of“Yang hyperactivity conjoined with Yin hypoactivity.”Methods:This is an observational study with 36 subjects involved from March 15 to 22,2020.The data from 3 tests before,during,and after the fasting were analyzed.Body composition,such as body weight and bone mass,physiological indexes,such as blood pressure,pulse beat,oxygen saturation,and blood perfusion,and subjective sensation,such as quality of sleep,energy evaluation,and fatigue,were analyzed.Results:There were significant differences in body weight,body mass index,systolic blood pressure,diastolic blood pressure,heart rate,basal metabolic rate,bone mass,and visceral fat index(P<0.01)before,during,and after fasting.Blood oxygen saturation,blood perfusion,and body water content before,during,and after fasting were not statistically significant.Conclusions:Combined with literature research and modern physiological testing instruments,this paper explains the traditional Chinese medicine theory of“excess in Yang and deficiency in Yin”from a new aspect.That is,when the contents of the gastrointestinal tract are full,the overall state of the body is in the hyperactive“Yangming”state characterized by full energy and absence of fatigue.When the gastrointestinal tract contents are near empty,the overall state of the body is in the weak“Taiyin”condition,characterized by lack of energy and fatigue.展开更多
