Citation and bibliographic coupling between authors in the field of social network analysis

Purpose:We analyzed the structure of a community of authors working in the field of social network analysis(SNA)based on citation indicators:direct citation and bibliographic coupling metrics.We observed patterns at the micro,meso,and macro levels of analysis.Design/methodology/approach:We used bibliometric network analysis,including the“temporal quantities”approach proposed to study temporal networks.Using a two-mode network linking publications with authors and a one-mode network of citations between the works,we constructed and analyzed the networks of citation and bibliographic coupling among authors.We used an iterated saturation data collection approach.Findings:At the macro-level,we observed the global structural features of citations between authors,showing that 80%of authors have not more than 15 citations from other works.At the meso-level,we extracted the groups of authors citing each other and similar to each other according to their citation patterns.We have seen a division of authors in SNA into groups of social scientists and physicists,as well as into other groups of authors from different disciplines.We found some examples of brokerage between different groups that maintained the common identity of the field.At the micro-level,we extracted authors with extremely high values of received citations,who can be considered as the most prominent authors in the field.We examined the temporal properties of the most popular authors.Research limitations:The main challenge in this approach is the resolution of the author’s name(synonyms and homonyms).We faced the author disambiguation,or“multiple personalities”(Harzing,2015)problem.To remain consistent and comparable with our previously published articles,we used the same SNA data collected up to 2018.The analysis and conclusions on the activity,productivity,and visibility of the authors are relative only to the field of SNA.Practical implications:The proposed approach can be utilized for similar objectives and identifying key structures and characteristics in other disciplines.This may potentially inspire the application of network approaches in other research areas,creating more authors collaborating in the field of SNA.Originality/value:We identified and applied an innovative approach and methods to study the structure of scientific communities,which allowed us to get the findings going beyond those obtained with other methods.We used a new approach to temporal network analysis,which is an important addition to the analysis as it provides detailed information on different measures for the authors and pairs of authors over time. 展开更多

This article aims to provide reference for medicine-engineering interdisciplinary research.Targeted at the scientific literature and patent literature published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University,this article attempts to set up co-occurrence matrix of medicine-engineering institutional information which was extracted from address fields of the papers,so as to construct the medicine-engineering intersection datasets.The dataset of scientific literature was analyzed using bibliometrics and visualization methods from multiple dimensions,and the most active factors,such as trends of output,journal and subject distribution,were identified from the indicators of category normalized citation impact(CNCI),times cited,keywords,citation topics and the degree of medicineengineering interdisplinary.Research on hotspots and trends was discussed in detail.Analyses of the dataset of patent literature showed research themes and measured the degree for technology convergence of medicineengineering. 展开更多

Kombucha is a traditional fermented tea beverage that has gained significant scientific attention due to its diverse biological activities and potential health benefits.However,despite extensive research on its functional properties,the global distribution of studies and research trends have not been fully mapped and documented.Thus,this review aims to synthesise the existing literature and conduct a bibliometric analysis of research on the biological activities of kombucha,specifically on antioxidant,antimicrobial,antidiabetic,and anti-obesity properties.Literature synthesis complements the bibliometric analysis by visually evaluating research trends and publication patterns using quantitative tools such as VOSviewer Software.Bibliographic coupling analysis showed five major thematic clusters:(1)Phytochemical composition and health-promoting properties of kom-bucha;(2)Microbial dynamics influence on the development of functional kombucha;(3)Metabolomics ap-proaches for profiling kombucha;(4)Correlation of multidimensional analytical approaches with sensory quality in kombucha,and(5)Sustainability-oriented and innovative applications of kombucha fermentation.Cooccurrence analysis further revealed three key clusters,including Phytochemical and Antioxidant Profile,Mi-crobial Ecology and Fermentation,and Experimental Models and Pharmacological Studies.Furthermore,the global research distribution based on the Scopus database demonstrated strong geographical research in China,reflecting the country's historical association with kombucha,supported by robust research infrastructure and growing interest in functional foods.Hence,this bibliometric review highlights the crucial role of biological activities in kombucha,which offer insights to guide its development and identify future research directions. 展开更多

Pathogenic microbes’management in aquaculture is a major challenge,as traditional methods like antibiotics can lead to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the environment.Probiotics have been shown as greener alternatives for controlling diseases and improving fish health,but their research trends in not yet fully mapped and documented.Bibliometric analysis demonstrates a comprehensive and detailed approach to assessing vast volumes of scientific data using quantitative tools such as VOSviewer Software.Therefore,this review aims to explore bibliometric analysis and research trends of probiotic strategies on the management of pathogenic microbes in aquaculture.Bibliographic coupling analysis displayed six key clusters,highlighting the diverse roles of probiotics in disease management in aquaculture.Cluster 1 focuses on probiotic and host’s gut interaction,Cluster 2 emphasizes the probiotic in tilapia culture,Cluster 3 addresses probiotics as disease resistance in fish and shellfish,Cluster 4 highlights Bacillus as a dominant probiotic in aquaculture,Cluster 5 identifies probiotics as an antibiotic alternative,and Cluster 6 presents probiotic and prebiotic combination in aquaculture.In addition,co-word analysis further revealed three important clusters for the probiotic studies including Animal Nutrition and Health,Microbial Ecology and Gut Microbiome,and Experimental Models of Probiotics.Moreover,the Scopus database shows a significant increase in probiotic research over the past 30 years,reflecting their growing importance in pathogen management in aquaculture.Thus,this bibliometric review highlights the critical role of probiotics and their emerging research trends in pathogen control for the aquaculture sector. 展开更多

This study mapped the knowledge structure and examined the knowledge linkage in U.S.emergency management research from 201 1 to 2024.Drawing on a conceptual framework that categorizes knowledge into scenarios,missions,and influencing factors,we constructed a dataset of publications authored by scholars affiliated with academic emergency management programs,retrieved from the Web of Science.Using bibliographic coupling and clustering analysis,we identified 22 research themes across five core research areas.Our findings indicate that although the field is thematically diverse,linkages between themes and areas remain limited.Nevertheless,knowledge integration has increased after 2016,with a few integrative hubs emerging.Further analysis of shared references suggested that integration occurred through shared theoretical or methodological foundations,asymmetric knowledge borrowing,and growing conceptual convergence.This study provided a comprehensive and empirical assessment of the interdisciplinary evolution of emergency management research and offered insights for scholars and academic program administrators seeking to strengthen knowledge integration and field development. 展开更多
