We set several variables to simulate the monitors of incident beam condition changes: beam positions at the quadrupole magnet and target in beam line polarimeter(BLP2), distance between quadrupole magnet and target, size of plastic scintillators, distance between the target in BLP2 and the centers of plastic scintillators, and beam polarization. Through the rotation of the coordinate system, the distributions of scattered and recoiled protons in the laboratory system were obtained. By analyzing the count yields in plastic scintillators at di?erent beam positions,we found that the beam incident angular change(0.35°) could be detected when the asymmetry of geometries of left and right scintillators in BLP2 was changed by 6%. Therefore, the scattering angle measured in the experiment can be tracked by these monitors.展开更多

It is operated with a beam current ranging from about1 mA to 100 mA per bunch for various operations and accelerator physics studies. High performance operations of the FEL and γ-ray source require a stable electron beam orbit, which has been realized by the global orbit feedback system. As a critical part of the orbit feedback system, the electron beam position monitors(BPMs) are required to be able to precisely measure the electron beam orbit in a wide range of the single-bunch current. However, the high peak voltage of the BPM pickups associated with high single-bunch current degrades the performance of the BPM electronics, and can potentially damage the BPM electronics. A signal conditioning method using low pass filters is developed to reduce the peak voltage to protect the BPM electronics, and to make the BPMs capable of working with a wide range of single-bunch current. Simulations and electron beam based tests are performed. The results show that the Duke storage ring BPM system is capable of providing precise orbit measurements to ensure highly stable FEL and HIGS operations.展开更多

文摘The simulation is performed for the monitors of beam direction and beam position for p-p elastic scattering. Therefore, the scattering angle measured in the experiment can be tracked by these monitors.

文摘Purpose Hundreds of digital beam position monitor processors(DBPM)are required to be produced during the construction of projects such as High Energy Photon Source(HEPS)and the upgrade project of the Beijing Electron Positron Collider(BEPCII),which brings great challenges to the test work.In order to achieve accurate, fast, and complete mass production tests of DBPMs,an automatic test system(ATS)has been developed in this article. Methods According to the test items of DBPM,the standardized testing softwareflow is designed based on virtual instru-ment program control technology and experimental physics and industrial control system(EPICS),which realize automatic adjustment of test parameters and automatic acquisition of test result data. Results and conclusions The ATS can realize one-button testing of channel coefficients, channel linearity, attenuator linearity, beam current dependence(BCD)and sampling signal-to-noise ratio(SNR),and generate test reports. The total test time is less than 3 minutes, which is significantly more efficient compared to manual testing.More than 90 BEPCII DBPMs has been tested by this ATS in the lab.The test results proved that such a system could automatically recognize defective products and satisfy the requirements of mass testing.

文摘Purpose A high-precision beam monitor system based on silicon carbide PIN sensor is designed for the 1.6 GeV proton beam of China Spallation Neutron Source. The conceptual design of the beam monitor system is composed of front-end electronics with SiC PIN sensor and readout system.Method The charge collection efficiency of the SiC PIN sensor after proton radiation is studied with 80 MeV proton beam.98%charge will be collected by the SiC PIN sensor after the system running one year, which can meet requirements of beam monitoring.Research on the performance of the front-end electronics and readout system is completed for better data acquisition. The front-end electronics is studied to figure out the effect of feedback resistor. The readout system can deal with signal with sampling rate of 5 GHz,and the data acquisition rate is 1 Hz.Results The uncertainty of proton beam fluence is below 0.68%in the beam monitor system. Conclusion The results reveal that the beam monitor system can be used for the 1.6 GeV proton beam of China Spallation Neutron Source.

文摘Laser plasma accelerators(LPAs)enable the generation of intense and short proton bunches on a micrometre scale, thus offering new experimental capabilities to research fields such as ultra-high dose rate radiobiology or material analysis.Being spectrally broadband,laser-accelerated proton bunches allow for tailored volumetric dose deposition in a sample via single bunches to excite or probe specific sample properties. The rising number of such experiments indicates a need for diagnostics providing spatially resolved characterization of dose distributions with volumes of approximately 1 cm^(3) for single proton bunches to allow for fast online feedback. Here we present the scintillator-based miniSCIDOM detector for online single-bunch tomographic reconstruction of dose distributions in volumes of up to approximately 1 cm^(3).The detector achieves a spatial resolution below 500μm and a sensitivity of 100 mGy.The detector performance is tested at a proton therapy cyclotron and an LPA proton source. The experiments’primary focus is the characterization of the scintillator’s ionization quenching behaviour.

文摘The Duke storage ring is a dedicated driver for the storage ring based oscillator free-electron lasers(FELs), and the High Intensity Gamma-ray Source(HIGS). The results show that the Duke storage ring BPM system is capable of providing precise orbit measurements to ensure highly stable FEL and HIGS operations.
