Using the transfer matrix method, the band structure of the periodic pipe is calculated considering the structural-acoustic coupling. The results show that longitudinal vibration band gaps and acoustic band gaps can coexist in the fluid-filled periodic pipe. The formation of the band gap mechanism is further analyzed. The band gaps are validated by the sound transmission loss and vibration-frequency response functions calculated using the finite element method. The effect of the damp on the band gap is analyzed by calculating the complex band structure. The periodic pipe system can be used not only in the field of vibration reduction but also for noise elimination.展开更多

A pulsed neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet(Nd:YAG) laser(1,064 nm, 8 ns, 200 mJ) was focused onto pelletized soil samples. Emission spectra were obtained from oil-contaminated soil and clean soil. The contaminated soil had almost the same spectrum profile as the clean soil and contained the same major and minor elements. However, a C–H molecular band was clearly detected in the oil-contaminated soil, while no C–H band was detected in the clean soil. Linear calibration curve of the C–H molecular band was successfully made by using a soil sample containing various concentrations of oil. The limit of detection of the C–H band in the soil sample was 0.001 mL/g. Furthermore, the emission spectrum of the contaminated soil clearly displayed titanium(Ti) lines, which were not detected in the clean soil. The existence of the C–H band and Ti lines in oil-contaminated soil can be used to clearly distinguish contaminated soil from clean soil. For comparison, the emission spectra of contaminated and clean soil were also obtained using scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive X-ray(SEM/EDX) spectroscopy, showing that the spectra obtained using LIBS are much better than using SEM/EDX, as indicated by the signal to noise ratio(S/N ratio).展开更多

The popular configuration is parallel Kirschner wires (K-wires) and a stainless steel wire loop placed in a vertically oriented figure-of-8. Methods: We used a wooden model of a patella with a midway transverse fracture and compared four different types of fixation. The first construct had a vertical figure-of-8 with one twist of wire. The second contained a vertical figure-of-8 with two twists of wire. The third was a vertical figure-of-8 with two twists of wire placed at adjacent corners while the last one had a horizontal figure-of-8 with two twists of wire placed at adjacent corners, lnterfragmentary compression at the point of wire breakage was measured for each construct as well as permanent displacement on cyclic loading. Results: Placement of the figure-of-eight in a horizontal orientation with two wire twists at the corner improved interfragmentary compression by 63% (p 〈 0.05, Tukey post ]hoc test). On cyclic loading, all the constructs with vertical figure-of-eight but none with a horizontal construct failed (p = 0.01; Fisher's exact test). Permanent fracture displacement after cyclic loading was ,57% lower with horizontal figure- of-eight constructs (p 〈 0.05; t test). Conclusion: Placing wire twists at the corner and a horizontal placement of figure-of-8 improves stability of the construct.展开更多

The theoretical model is built using transfer matrix method. Then the MATLAB computing language is utilized to simulate the band gap structures. Meanwhile, the effects of the resistance, inductance and capacitance on the local resonant gap are studied. By comparing different combinations of resistance, inductance and capacitance as well as different arrangement of circuits, a 13 kHz band gap is reached under the effect of arranging hybrid pe- riodic shunted piezoelectric patches at intervals and the stability of the system is also analyzed. It is proved that utilizing hybrid shunted piezoelectric patches would have a clear impact on the band gap structure of phononic crystal rods. Moreover, the band gap would be clearly enlarged by arranging hybrid piezoelectric patches at intervals.展开更多
