This study mainly uses the move and step analysis to conduct a contrastive genre analysis on the selected 20 Chinese ad-mission brochures(CABs) and 20 American admission brochures(AABs).Differences in moves,move seque...This study mainly uses the move and step analysis to conduct a contrastive genre analysis on the selected 20 Chinese ad-mission brochures(CABs) and 20 American admission brochures(AABs).Differences in moves,move sequences and step arrange-ments have revealed themselves in this comparison.Firstly,Chinese university admission brochures cast more focus on basic infor-mation about the university,the application procedure and admission criteria,while American universities,besides offering such in-formation,also emphasize the promotional function of the admission brochures.They use appealing and creative moves to commer-cially‘sell'advantages of the university to the potential applicants.Secondly,based on Kress & van Leeuwen's visual grammarsymbolic meaning,images and colors in admission brochures are also explored and analyzed as language.For one thing,after count-ing the frequency of the four categories of images,namely portrait,campus scenery,campus life pictures and graphs,it is foundthat,compared with CABs,AABs have a highly more obvious tendency in using images.The images are used as an effective tool toincrease the sense of credibility,identity-recognition,attract reader's attention,and help understanding,making the facts and in-formation more intuitive.For another thing,the main colors used in the brochures are yet another noticeable feature.Especially inAmerican brochures,universities tend to use their‘traditional colors' in the brochure to achieve a sense of consistency.Some Chi-nese brochures also follow this promotional strategy,yet a large percentage of them do not use any recognizable colors other thanthe printed black and white.Based on these differences,suggestions are put forward from perspectives including choice of movesand steps to improve the quality of CABs,hopefully raising their acceptance in the international level.展开更多

With the quick increase of foreign tourists, tourism and the Chinese hotel industry have been boomed. Hotels around tourist attractions in China, whether they are star hotels, motels or viphouses, have launched bilingual and even multilingual hotel brochures. Hotel brochures,as an indispensable part of the tourism texts, have gradually gained the attention of the translation community.The purpose of the tourism texts is to allow people to obtain information about the hotel or information related to the attraction, so that they can be attracted to the hotel or the tourist attraction. Today, there is no doubt that tourism texts serve as an important bridge in the development of tourism. This paper takes Yingti Shunjie Hotel as an example to explore the textual function and language features of such texts through text analysis and parallel text analysis.展开更多
Background:Suprapubic catheters(SPCs)are associated with a wide spectrumof undesirable symptoms and complications,ranging from skin overgranulation to septicemia.They can be effectively managed through various medical...Background:Suprapubic catheters(SPCs)are associated with a wide spectrumof undesirable symptoms and complications,ranging from skin overgranulation to septicemia.They can be effectively managed through various medical and healthcare interventions.We compared the impact of illustrated brochure healthcare education(IBHE)and verbal-only healthcare education(VOHE)on early postoperative complications of SPC in patients with low literacy levels.Materials andmethods:Eighty patients with lowliteracy levelswho underwent SPC insertionwere randomly allocated to receive either IBHE or VOHE between January 2019 and June 2020.Variables,including postoperative complications(within 30 days),were compared.This study was approved by our institutional review board(IRB number:1780011/2019).Results:The IBHE and VOHE groups included 40 patients each.The mean age±standard deviation was 52.75±16.46 and 53.25±17.19 years,respectively.Acute urinary retention was the main presenting symptom(36[90%]vs.34[85%]),and benign prostatic hyperplasia was themain underlying pathology(16[40%]vs.15[37.5%]).The incidence of SPC obstruction(p=0.000),urine leakage(p=0.006),falling out(p=0.003),suprapubic pain(p=0.012),exit skinmanifestations(p=0.000),bleeding(p=0.041),change(p=0.003),and hematuria(p=0.000)was significantly lower in IBHE than in VOHE.However,catheter-associated bladder discomfort(p=0.247),bacteriuria(p=0.154),and gross pyuria(p=0.625)were not significantly different between the groups.The frequency of Clavien-Dindo grades was significantly higher in the VOHE group than in the IBHE group.Grade I(87.5%vs.67.5%,p=0.032)and grade Ⅲa(2.5%vs.22.5%,p=0.007)were significantly more frequent in the highest grade in IBHE and VOHE groups,respectively.Conclusions:Illustrated brochure healthcare education appears to be a suitable and effective method for educating low-literacy patients undergoing SPC insertion.It significantly reduced the incidence and grade of early postoperative SPC complications compared with VOHE,except for catheter-associated bladder discomfort,bacteriuria,and gross pyuria.展开更多
