The prevalence of type-2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) has increased dramatically during the last 2 decades, a fact driven by the increased prevalence of obesity, the primary risk factor for T2 DM. The figures for diabetes in the Arab world are particularly startling as the number of people with diabetes is projected to increase by 96.2% by 2035. Genetic risk factors may play a crucial role in this uncontrolled raise in the prevalence of T2 DM in the Middle Eastern region. However, factors such as obesity, rapid urbanization and lack of exercise are other key determinants of this rapid increase in the rate of T2 DM in the Arab world. The unavailability of an effective program to defeat T2 DM has serious consequences on the increasing rise of this disease, where available data indicates an unusually high prevalence of T2 DM in Arabian children less than 18 years old. Living with T2 DM is problematic as well, since T2 DM has become the 5th leading cause of disability, which was ranked 10 th as recently as 1990. Giving the current status of T2 DM in the Arab world, a collaborative international effort is needed for fighting further spread of this disease. 展开更多

Incidence rate for prostate cancer in the Arab World is significantly lower than United States and Europe, it ranges from 5.5% to 39.2%. However, the incidence and the number of deaths is expected to increase. In Saudi Arabia, the crude incidence rate and age standardized incidence rate of prostate cancer are reported to be steadily increasing in between 2001-2008. Only two screening trials were attempted in 2001 and 2009 which yielded an incidence rate of 1.17% and 2.5% respectively. Men in the Arab world are sharing a common characteristic of poor knowledge and poor attitude towards prostate cancer examination and screening practices. They are ill-informed about the PSA test's strengths and drawbacks because the doctors are not talking to them about the importance of counselling. Men should be encouraged to do PSA testing before the age of 50 and till the age of 70 years. This could be achieved by enhancing their attitude and enriching the knowledge of the physicians towards PSA testing, harms and benefits, through shared decision making, which would increase men's knowledge scores, reduced their decisional conflict and promote greater involvement in decision making. 展开更多

Digital trade and cross-border e-commerce have lowered the threshold for women’s entrepreneurship and employment, expanded the scope of links, and brought unprecedented development opportunities. If the female group can be included in the development of the digital economy in the Arab world,it will be of great significance to promote the diversification and transformation of the national economy. With the gradual reform and opening up of women’s rights in Arab countries, the women’s economy, especially the women’s digital economy, has also burst out with huge development potential, and women’s participation in the field of digital economy is also deepening.China-Arab digital infrastructure cooperation has made remarkable progress and has become an important area of cooperation for the highquality promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative in the Arab world, which provides a good foundation for cooperation between China and Arab countries in the Her Digital Economy field, and also provides more support for the development in the future. 展开更多

The Arab Spring has changed the political landscape in the Arab world. The spring which began as genuine grass-root movement designed to create more equitable social projects, was steered by Western powers and local Islamists in different directions with these powers heavily intervening to control and/or weaken Arab states.China has pursued a policy of non-intervention in the domestic affairs of Arab states, and letting the peoples decide their own future.China may have miscalculated when it allowed NATO to interfere in Libya. That intervention had catastrophic consequences for China and Libya.Consequently,China,in collaboration with Russia decided not to repeat the same experience in Syria especially since foreign intervention in this case will be even more catastrophic.China vetoed Security Council draft resolutions calling for regime change in Syria and insisted on letting the Syrians decide peacefully their future course of action.Further,China under the new leadership has suggested for the first time a four-point program to settle the Arab-Israeli conflict. The article argues that the Chinese-Russian approach to the Syrian crisis is bound to have long-term implications for the future of the Arab world. As the signs of the positive contributions of that approach are emerging,China should proceed to reinforce these contributions through a concerted approach to engage with the new regimes in the Arab world, strengthen the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, correct the imbalances of Sino-Arab trade, especially with the countries of the Arab Spring, focus on investing in these countries in labor-intensive industries, putting the four-point proposal on the agenda of ArabIsraeli negotiations, and, most importantly, deal with the question of the Israeli nuclear capabilities and the potential of Israel going to war against Iran,a scenario which will represent a major setback to the Chinese achievements in the region. 展开更多

The Political and Social Influences of the West ‘Us’ in the Arab World ‘Others’

Western influence is the upshot of two centuries of Western dominance.Their position of power has undermined the prerogatives of many nations, which is evident in the West pushing certain political and cultural ideals.Their privileged and powerful political and cultural status and the superiority of their civilization led them to view the rest of the world as‘Others’,being politically, and culturally inferior. This is what made the West identify the policy and the economy in the world and impose the liberal democracy and the Western social and cultural patterns on‘others’,rendering them as parameters for civilization and political development. In this paper,we will focus on the influence of the West‘Us’on the Arab world‘Others’and the political and social effects it has had in the region. The current study is twofold.Firstly,we will look at the recent development of the Arab world in current events, which are largely driven by Western interference in the region. The second factor is the erosion of the Arab heritage amid the wide adoption of Western cultures, and its social and political impact. 展开更多

During the Cold War,China’s diplomacy failed to treat the Arab states as a whole. It was not until the end of the Cold War that China established diplomatic relations with all 22 Arab states.Since then,a multilateral cooperation mechanism between China and Arab states has come into existence and become steadily developed. In 2004,the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum was established. In 2010,China and the Arab states announced the establishment of a strategic cooperative relationship. After the Gulf War,the Arab world entered a period of fragmentation and division. The situation deteriorated after the drastic changes in the Middle East in 2011,to the point of entering an era of granulation. The ability of The League of Arab States to operate as a single international actor has been greatly impaired. In the era of the fragmentation of the Arab world, the mechanism of multilateral cooperation between China and the Arab States has developed in spite of these great difficulties. In future, the role and function of the multilateral mechanism of cooperation between China and the Arab states needs to be clarified, and efficiency needs to be improved based on the existing mechanisms. 展开更多
