Currently,commercial intraoral dressings have limitations as they only serve a single purpose and fail to meet various needs,such as hemostasis,wound protection,and dressing fixation.Here,we success-fully fabricated a...Currently,commercial intraoral dressings have limitations as they only serve a single purpose and fail to meet various needs,such as hemostasis,wound protection,and dressing fixation.Here,we success-fully fabricated a multifunctional polycaprolactone-chitosan Janus membrane(PCJM)with simultaneous hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties.The hydrophobic layer consists of a dense and disordered poly-caprolactone,preventing bacterial adhesion,resisting fouling,and enhancing mechanical strength.The hydrophilic layer is a highly porous chitosan sponge,which facilitates cell and protein adhesion,as well as rapid absorption of blood and activation of the coagulation process.These results are confirmed by hemostasis experiments,which demonstrate that the PCJM had superior coagulation ability compared to commercial gelatin sponges and gauze,and by an early gingival healing model of beagle tooth extraction wounds,which exhibited excellent performance in promoting wound healing.Our work demonstrates the multifunctional PCJM wound dressing not only protects wounds from bacterial infections but also facili-tates rapid hemostasis and early healing of beagle gingival soft tissue,which holds significant potential for clinical translation and large-scale production.展开更多

Bacterial infection,biofilm formation,immune dysfunction are common triggers and aggravators in periodontitis,which render periodontal restoration challenging.Thus,a strategy with antibacterial,anti-inflammatory,immun...Bacterial infection,biofilm formation,immune dysfunction are common triggers and aggravators in periodontitis,which render periodontal restoration challenging.Thus,a strategy with antibacterial,anti-inflammatory,immunoregulatory capacities has great promise in the clinical practice of periodontitis.Herein,carvacrol(CA)-based near-infrared(NIR)lightresponsive nano-drug delivery system is developed for the first time.The system consists of upconversion nanoparticles(UCNPs,which upconvert 808 nm NIR to blue light),mesoporous silica(mSiO_(2),the carrier channel),hydrophobic CA(blue light response properties).Under the irradiation of 808 nm NIR,owing to the synergy of CA and upconverted blue light,the UCNPs@mSiO_(2)-CA(UCMCs)exhibit the properties of specific anti-bacteria(including anaerobic bacteria),anti-inflammation,and immunomodulation.Notably,high-throughput sequencing results exhibit that many classic inflammatory immune-related signaling pathways,including the MAPK signaling pathway,tumor necrosis factor(TNF)signaling pathway,IL-17 signaling pathway,are enriched to remodel the immune microenvironment.Additionally,UCMCs with NIR irradiation accelerate periodontal restoration and serve as promising non-invasive management of periodontitis.Altogether,this study verifies the feasibility of herbal monomer combined with light-responsive in situ nano-drug delivery system and provides a more effective and reliable strategy for various potential applications of deep tissue diseases.展开更多
The heritage preservation is of great intractability to the conservators as each kind of heritage material has unique and diverse requirements on temperature,humidity and air cleanliness.It is promising for metal-orga...The heritage preservation is of great intractability to the conservators as each kind of heritage material has unique and diverse requirements on temperature,humidity and air cleanliness.It is promising for metal-organic frameworks(MOFs),the multifunctional environment remediation materials,to be applied in heritage environmental protection.The advantages of MOFs lie in their multifunction like adsorption,photocatalysis,sterilization,as well as the controllable structure and properties that could be flexibly adjusted as demands,helping the heritage against various environmental threats.Thereby,the applications and the corresponding mechanisms of MOFs in cultural heritage preservation were reviewed in this work,including harmful gas adsorption,surface waterproofing,particulate matters(PM)removal,anti-bacterial and humidity control of environment.Finally,the selection principles and precautions of MOFs in heritage preservation were discussed,aiming to provide a forward-looking direction for the selection and application of MOFs.展开更多
Otitis media is an infection of the middle ear mainly caused by bacteria,and current treatments rely heavily on antibiotics.However,the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains seriously affects their effic...Otitis media is an infection of the middle ear mainly caused by bacteria,and current treatments rely heavily on antibiotics.However,the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains seriously affects their efficacy.In our study,we found that extracellular vesicles(EVs)derived from human natural killer cells(NKs)inhibit the proliferation of both standard and levofloxacin(LVX)-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus in a dose-dependent manner.Moreover,compared to LVX,EVs were more effective at reducing effusion and rescuing hearing thresholds in animal models.For LVX-sensitive strains,EVs were significantly more effective in terms of curative time but not curative rate.For LVX-resistant strains,EVs were significantly more effective in terms of both curative rate and curative time when applied alone or applied jointly with LVX.In summary,we found that NK EVs are highly effective in treating otitis media,providing an alternative approach for treating this common disease.展开更多
