Through isotopic analysis(δ^(13)C_(DIC), δD and δ^(18)O) and hydrochemical measurements [salinity and dissolved oxygen(DO)] of surface and bottom seawater samples from 52 stations, we demonstrate that δ^(13)C_(DIC) values(surface:-3.6‰ to-2.1‰;bottom:-3.6‰ to-1.8‰) exhibit distinct vertical and spatial patterns, with higher values in surface waters and outer bay regions compared to bottom and inner bay areas. Conservative mixing between seawater(average contribution:56%) and freshwater dominates DIC dynamics, while tidal hydrodynamics amplify the imprint of riverine inputs during low tides. Nutrient gradients driven by saline-freshwater mixing enhance primary productivity in outer bay regions, resulting in 13C-enriched DIC and elevated dissolved organic carbon(DOC) concentrations. Conversely, bottom waters show 13C-depleted signatures(-2.75‰ mean δ^(13)C_(DIC)), reflecting organic matter degradation under oxygen-depleted conditions. Aquaculture activities exacerbate localized eutrophication, with monsoon-enhanced runoff amplifying anthropogenic impacts. This work underscores the sensitivity of coastal carbon cycling to both natural hydrodynamics and anthropogenic perturbations in semi-enclosed bays.展开更多

COS mixing ratios exhibited distinct seasonal variation, with a maximum average value of 849 ± 477 pptv in winter and a minimal value of 372 ± 115 pptv in summer. The seasonal variation of COS was mainly ascribed to the combined effects of vegetation uptake and anthropogenic emissions. Two types of significant linear correlations(R2〉 0.66) were found between COS and CO during the periods from May to June and from October to March, with slopes(ΔCOS/ΔCO) of 0.72 and 0.14 pptv/ppbv, respectively. Based on the emission ratios of COS/CO from various sources, the dominant anthropogenic sources of COS in Beijing were found to be vehicle tire wear in summer and coal burning in winter. The total anthropogenic emission of COS in Beijing was roughly estimated as 0.53 ± 0.02 Gg/year based on the local CO emission inventory and the ΔCOS/ΔCO ratios.展开更多

Guiyang Power Plant (GPP), Guiyang Wujiang Cement Plant, Guizhou Aluminum Plant (GAP), and Guiyang Forest Park (GFP) in Guiyang were selected as study sites. Automatic Atmospheric Mercury Speciation Analyzers (Tekran 2537A) were used for GEM analysis. PHg and RGM were simultaneously collected by a manual sampling system, including elutriator, coupler/ impactor, KCl-coated annular denuder, and a filter holder. Results show that different emission sources dominate different species of Hg. The highest average GEM value was 22.2 ±28.3 ng·m-3 and the lowest 6.1 ± 3.9 ng·m-3, from samples collected at GPP and GAP, respectively. The maximum average PHg was 1984.9 pg·m-3 and the mini- mum average 55.9 pg·m-3, also from GPP and GAP, respectively. Similarly, the highest average RGM of 68.8 pg·m-3 was measured at GPP, and the lowest level of 20.5 pg·m-3 was found at GAP. We conclude that coal combustion sources are still playing a key role in GEM; traffic contributes significantly to PHg; and domestic pol- lution dominates RGM.展开更多

Dispersion model Atmospheric Dispersion Model (AERMOD) was introduced to simplify the complexity of sources in Jharia coalfield. PCA and CMB analysis indicates that monitoring stations near the mining area were mainly affected by the emission from open coal mining and its associated activities such as coal transportation, loading and unloading of coal. Mine fire emission also contributed a considerable amount of particulate matters in monitoring stations. Locations in the city area were mostly affected by vehicular, Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) & Diesel Generator (DG) set emissions, residential, and commercial activities. The experimental data sampling and their analysis could aid understanding how dispersion based model technique along with receptor model based concept can be strategically used for quantitative analysis of Natural and Anthropogenic sources of PM10.展开更多

This area is naturally enriched in U and Th, with the occurrence of Pb derived from the radioactive decay of the elements (238U, 235U and 232Th) in the form of their stable isotopes 206Pb, 207Pb and 208Pb in addition to the natural isotope 204Pb. Sampling was carried out in the rainy season (December to January) and the points were selected according to regional hydrology and geology. Thirty samples were analyzed: 12 of groundwater (AP) and 18 of sediments (S). The results show that the use of isotopic ratios allows discrimination between geogenic and anthropogenic samples. This information is not obtained using only the analysis of concentration data. Statistically, the isotopic data of Pb stand out as an efficient tool in the characterization of sources in the scenario investigated, allowing an effective environmental monitoring and a better management of the mining activities.展开更多

In the Middle Caqueta region small-scale, illegal gold mining is eroding riverbanks, affecting water quality, and jeopardizing the livelihoods of indigenous peoples. In addition, mining also threatens the integrity of pre-Columbian anthropogenic soils (terra preta) created between 500 years to 2,000 years B.P. on the bluffs of the Caqueta . River. These soils are the only, non-flooded fertile soils present in the region, and as such are important for local indigenous communities. In Colombia, there is little knowledge about Terra Preta soils. This work assesses the present and potential dangers artisanal mining has for terra preta soils and other natural resources that are central to indigenous peoples' food security. Results posit that more knowledge is needed about the way terra preta soils are related to the livelihoods of indigenous people so that informed policy decisions can be made about the desirability of mining in the region.展开更多

These multiple combined pressures: chemical, hydro-morphological, thermal or trophic, affect and disrupt the functioning of aquatic organisms. The objective of this study was to assess the main human pressures influencing the surface water resources of the Kamsar sub-prefecture, in order to propose mitigation measures. The following methodological approach was adopted: 1) Survey of managers and analysis records;2) Survey of stakeholders;3) Assessment of the effect of human activities on surface water resources;4) Data processing;5) Corrective measures. The survey farmers working near aquatic environments, revealed a low use of chemical substances, in particular 3 to 11 kg of fertilizer and 0 to 3 boxes of herbicide on fields of 40 m2 to 2 ha. Some physico-chemical parameters have been determined: Temperature (28.5˚C, 23.7˚C, 22.8˚C, 21.3˚C, 21.6˚C), Salinity (26.9‰, 21.9‰, 21.5‰, 15‰, 15.3‰) and Turbidity (21.3 UTN, 19.3 UTN, 17.8 UTN, 16.7 UTN, 17 UTN). These values show a fluctuation in the environmental parameters of aquatic ecosystems, which constitutes an obstacle to the development and survival of the resources.展开更多

文摘Halocarbons play a vital role in ozone depletion and global warming, and are regulated by the Montreal Protocol(MP)and its amendments.China has been identified as an important contributor to the halocarbon emissions, but the regional sources of halocarbons in China are not yet well comprehended. To investigate the characteristics, emissions, and source profiles, this study conducted a field campaign in Xiamen,a coastal city in southeastern China.Higher enhancements were found in the unregulated halocarbons(CH_(3)Cl,CH_(2)Cl_(2),CHCl_(3))than in the MP eliminated species(CCl_(4),CH_(3)Br)and theMP controlled species(HCFCs,HFCs).Many of the measured halocarbons varied seasonally and regionally, depending on the anthropogenic sources and atmospheric transport.Backward trajectory analysis showed that the air masses from inland were polluted over Shandong,Hebei, and northern Fujian in the cold season, while the air masses fromthe sea in the warm season were clean.Different air masses in two seasons were associated with the halocarbon patterns in the study area.Industrial activities, especially solvent usage, were the primary sources of halocarbons. The emission hot spots in Fujian Province were concentrated in Sanming,Fuzhou, and Xiamen, and the unregulated halocarbons made the largest contribution. This study provides an insight for a deep understanding of the characteristics and potential sources of halocarbons, and for strengthened management of halocarbons in China.

文摘This study investigates the spatial distribution and regulatory mechanisms of dissolved inorganic carbon(DIC) in Xiangshan Bay, East China Sea, addressing critical gaps in carbon cycling research within semi-enclosed bays. 文摘The complexity of the seismicity pattern for the subduction zone along the oceanic plate triggered the outer rise events and revealed cyclic tectonic deformation conditions along the plate subduction zones. The outer rise earthquakes have been observed along the Sunda arc, following the estimated rupture area of the 2005 M_(W)8.6 Nias earthquakes. Here,we used kinematic waveform inversion(KIWI)to obtain the source parameters of the 14 May 2021 M_(W)6.6 event off the west coast of northern Sumatra and to define the fault plane that triggered this outer rise event. The KIWI algorithm allows two types of seismic source to be configured:the moment tensor model to describe the type of shear with six moment tensor components and the Eikonal model for the rupture of pure double-couple sources. This method was chosen for its flexibility to be applied for different sources of seismicity and also for the automated full-moment tensor solution with real-time monitoring. We used full waveform traces from 8 broadband seismic stations within 1000 km epicentral distances sourced from the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology(IRIS-IDA)and Geofon GFZ seismic record databases. The initial origin time and hypocenter values are obtained from the IRIS-IDA.The synthetic seismograms used in the inversion process are based on the existing regional green function database model and were accessed from the KIWI Tools Green's Function Database. The obtained scalar seismic moment value is 1.18×10^(19)N·m,equivalent to a moment magnitude M_(W)6.6.The source parameters are 140°,44°,and−99°for the strike, dip, and rake values at a centroid depth of 10.2 km,indicating that this event is a normal fault earthquake that occurred in the outer rise area. The outer rise events with normal faults typically occur at the shallow part of the plate, with nodal-plane dips predominantly in the range of 30°-60°on the weak oceanic lithosphere due to hydrothermal alteration. The stress regime around the plate subduction zone varies both temporally and spatially due to the cyclic influences of megathrust earthquakes.Tensional outer rise earthquakes tend to occur after the megathrust events. The relative timing of these events is not known due to the viscous relaxation of the down going slab and poroelastic response in the trench slope region. The occurrence of the 14 May 2021 earthquake shows the seismicity in the outer rise region in the strongly coupled Sunda arc subduction zone due to elastic bending stress within the duration of the seismic cycle.

文摘We conducted a field campaign to investigate the chemical composition, sources, and light absorption of submicron aerosols(PM_(1))from early 2022 in Nanjing,China. The average concentration of PM_(1) was 31μg m^(−3),organics(33%)constituted the largest fraction, followed by nitrate(30%),sulfate(18%),ammonium(15%),chloride(3%),and rBC(2%).Four organic aerosol(OA)subcomponents were identified, including two primary OA(POA)and two secondary OA(SOA).The less-oxidized SOA(LO-OOA)contributes the most to the total OA mass(59%).LO-OOA is tightly correlated with the tracer ion C_(2)H_(4)O_(2)^(+)from levoglucosan, and another aged biomass-burning derived species,K_(3)SO_(4)^(+),suggesting it was likely influenced by aged biomass-burning OA.Our study also revealed that fireworks during the Spring Festival have a detrimental impact on air quality, contributing to secondary formation and accumulation under static winter meteorological conditions, prolonging the pollution duration.Also,LO-OOA was found to have the strongest light-absorbing ability. Our results highlight that the light absorption of LO-OOA can mainly be attributed to the C_(x)H_(y)N^(+) family, increased with the double-bond equivalent value. The more-oxidized SOA(MO-OOA)exhibited a negligible light absorption and was strongly correlated with daytime photochemical processes, implying a light-bleaching effect. This study enhances our understanding of the regional contribution of biomass combustion and fireworks to PM_(1) pollution in Nanjing,a typical megacity in the Yangtze River Delta region, during winter, aiding in the development of strategies for long-term air quality improvement in the region.

文摘Atmospheric mixing ratios of carbonyl sulfide(COS) in Beijing were intensively measured from March 2011 to June 2013. The total anthropogenic emission of COS in Beijing was roughly estimated as 0.53 ± 0.02 Gg/year based on the local CO emission inventory and the ΔCOS/ΔCO ratios.

文摘Continuous measurements of speciated atmo- spheric mercury (Hg), including gaseous elemental mer- cury (GEM), particulate mercury (PHg), and reactive gaseous mercury (RGM) were conducted in Guizhou Pro- vince, southwestern China. We conclude that coal combustion sources are still playing a key role in GEM; traffic contributes significantly to PHg; and domestic pol- lution dominates RGM.

文摘An evidence-based control strategy for emission reduction of VOC sources can effectively solve the regional PM2.5and O3compound pollution in China. We estimated the anthropogenic VOC emission inventory in China in 2018 and established a source profile database containing 129 sources based on localized detection and the latest research results. Then, the distribution of the ozone formation potential(OFP)and secondary organic aerosol formation potential(SOAFP)for emission sources was analyzed. Moreover, priority control routes for VOC emission sources were proposed for different periods.Anthropogenic VOC emissions in China reached 27,211.8 Gg in 2018,and small passenger cars, industrial protective coatings, biomass burning, heavy trucks, printing, asphalt paving, oil storage and transportation, coking, and oil refining were the main contributors.Industrial protective coatings, small passenger cars, and biomass burning all contributed significantly to OFP and SOAFP.Priority in emission reduction control should be given to industrial protective coatings, small passenger cars, heavy trucks, coking, printing, asphalt paving, chemical fibers, and basic organic chemical sources over the medium and long term in China. In addition, the priority control route for VOC emission sources should be adjusted according to the variations in VOC emission characteristics and regional differences,so as to obtain the maximum environmental benefits.

文摘Sediments in Lake Izabal,Guatemala, contain substantial lead (Pb),zinc (Zn),and nickel (Ni).The lack of historical data for heavy metal concentrations in the sediments makes it difficult to determine the sources or evaluate whether inputs of metals to the lake have changed through time.We measured the relative abundances and concentrations of Pb,Zn,and Ni by X-Ray Fluorescence core scanning and by Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry in three sediment cores to explore stratigraphic distributions of metals in the lake deposits.High amounts of Pb and Zn in the core taken near the Polochic Delta suggest that galena and sphalerite mining increased Pb and Zn delivery to Lake Izabal between ~1945 and 1965 CE.An up-core Ni increase in the core taken near a different mine on the north shore of Lake Izabal suggests that recent nickel mining operations led to an increase in Ni concentrations in the local sediments, but amounts in the other cores indicate that Ni is not widely distributed throughout the lake.Sediment cores from Lake Izabal are reliable recorders of heavy metal input to the lake, and were measured to establish background metal levels, which would otherwise be unavailable.Concentrations of Pb,Zn,and Ni in older,pre-20th-century Lake Izabal sediments reflect input from natural erosion of bedrock. Our results provide previously unavailable estimates of background metal concentrations in Lake Izabal before the onset of mining. These results are necessary for future monitoring related to mining contamination of the lake ecosystem.

文摘As the key precursors of O_(3),anthropogenic non-methane volatile organic compounds(NMVOCs)have been studied intensively. This paper performed a meta-analysis on the spatial and temporal variations of NMVOCs,their roles in photochemical reactions, and their sources in China, based on published research. The results showed that both nonmethane hydrocarbons(NMHCs)and oxygenated VOCs(OVOCs)in China have higher mixing ratios in the eastern developed cities compared to those in the central and western areas.Alkanes are the most abundant NMHCs species in all reported sites while formaldehyde is the most abundant among the OVOCs.OVOCs have the highest mixing ratios in summer and the lowest in winter, which is opposite to NMHCs.Among all NMVOCs,the top eight species account for 50%−70%of the total ozone formation potential(OFP)with different compositions and contributions in different areas. In devolved regions,OFP-NMHCs are the highest in winter while OFP-OVOCs are the highest in summer.Based on positive matrix factorization(PMF)analysis, vehicle exhaust, industrial emissions, and solvent usage in China are the main sources for NMHCs.However, the emission trend analysis showed that solvent usage and industrial emissions will exceed vehicle exhaust and become the two major sources of NMVOCs in near future.Based on the meta-analysis conducted in this work,we believe that the spatio-temporal variations and oxidation mechanisms of atmospheric OVOCs,as well as generating a higher spatial resolution of emission inventories of NMVOCs represent an area for future studies on NMVOCs in China.

文摘Source apportionment study of PM10 (Particulate Matter) in a critically polluted area of Jhafia coalfield, India has been carried out using Dispersion model, Principle Component Analysis (PCA) and Chemical Mass Balance (CMB) techniques. The experimental data sampling and their analysis could aid understanding how dispersion based model technique along with receptor model based concept can be strategically used for quantitative analysis of Natural and Anthropogenic sources of PM10.

文摘This work presents a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) study using Pbisotope signatures and U, Th and Pb concentrations from groundwater, sediments and rocks (granites and orthogneisses) of the Complex of Lagoa Real (Bahia, Brazil). Statistically, the isotopic data of Pb stand out as an efficient tool in the characterization of sources in the scenario investigated, allowing an effective environmental monitoring and a better management of the mining activities.

文摘The health effects of trace metal elements in atmospheric fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5))are widely recognized, however, the emission factor profiles and chemical fractionation of metal elements in different sources were poorly understand. In this study, sixteen metal elements, including Cd,Pb,V,Zn,Ba,Sb,As,Fe,Sr,Cr,Rb,Co,Mn,Cu,Ni and Sn frombiomass burning, bituminite and anthracite combustion,as well as dust, were quantified. The results showdifferent emission sourceswere associated with distinct emission profiles, holding important implications for source apportionment of ambient particulate metals.Specifically,Fe was the dominant metal species(28-1922 mg/kg)for all samples, and was followed by different metals for different samples. For dust,Mn(39.9 mg/kg_(dust))had the second-highest emission factor, while for biomass burning, itwas Cr and Ba(7.5 and 7.4mg/kg_(biomass),respectively).For bituminous coal combustion, the emission factor of Zn and Ba was 6.2 and 6.0 mg/kg_(bituminous),respectively,while for anthracite combustion the corresponding emission factor was 5.6 and 4.3 mg/kg_(anthracite),respectively.Moreover,chemical fractionation(i.e.,the exchangeable, reducible fraction, oxidizable, and residual fraction)and the bioavailability index(BI)values of the metal elements from different sources were further investigated to reveal the link between different emission sources and the potential health risk. The findings from this study hold important implications for source apportionment and sourcespecific particulate metal-associated health effects.
文摘Mining is encroaching upon Protected Areas and Indigenous Reserves in the Colombian Amazon. Results posit that more knowledge is needed about the way terra preta soils are related to the livelihoods of indigenous people so that informed policy decisions can be made about the desirability of mining in the region.
文摘Living fishery resources, although rich and important for human populations, are subject to strong anthropization, thus causing a change in the environmental parameters of aquatic ecosystems. These values show a fluctuation in the environmental parameters of aquatic ecosystems, which constitutes an obstacle to the development and survival of the resources.

文摘Phthalate esters(PAEs),recognized as endocrine disruptors, are released into the environment during usage, thereby exerting adverse ecological effects. This study investigates the occurrence, sources, and risk assessment of PAEs in surface water obtained from 36 sampling points within the Yellow River and Yangtze River basins. The total concentration of PAEs in the Yellow River spans from124.5 to 836.5 ng/L,with Dimethyl phthalate(DMP)(75.4±102.7 ng/L)and Diisobutyl phthalate(DiBP)(263.4±103.1 ng/L)emerging as the predominant types.Concentrations exhibit a pattern of upstream(512.9±202.1 ng/L)>midstream(344.5±135.3 ng/L)>downstream(177.8±46.7 ng/L).In the Yangtze River, the total concentration ranges from 81.9 to 441.6 ng/L,with DMP(46.1±23.4 ng/L),Diethyl phthalate(DEP)(93.3±45.2 ng/L),and DiBP(174.2±67.6 ng/L)as the primary components.Concentration levels follow a midstream(324.8±107.3 ng/L)>upstream(200.8±51.8 ng/L)>downstream(165.8±71.6 ng/L)pattern.Attention should be directed towards the moderate ecological risks of DiBP in the upstream of HH,and both the upstream and midstream of CJ need consideration for the moderate ecological risks associated with Di-n-octyl phthalate(DNOP).Conversely,in other regions, the associated risk with PAEs is either low or negligible. The main source of PAEs in Yellow River is attributed to the release of construction land, while in the Yangtze River Basin,it stems from the accumulation of pollutants in lakes and forests discharged into the river. These findings are instrumental for pinpointing sources of PAEs pollution and formulating control strategies in the Yellow and Yangtze Rivers, providing valuable insights for global PAEs research in other major rivers.
文摘Collagen is a class of mammalian extracellular matrix of the main structural proteins, widely present in the skin, bone, muscle and other tissues and it plays a role in supporting, repairing, and protecting tissue cells.Natural source extraction and artificial synthesis provide a rich source of collagen. As a macromolecular material, collagen has good application potential in cosmetics, pharmaceutical, medical and food industries.Collagen has generated a great deal of interest in the cosmetic industry due to its abundance, strength, and direct correlation with skin aging.Collagen is widely used in cosmetics due to its unique structure, good biocompatibility and low antigenicity,as well as rich biological functions. To enhance the youthfulness and health of the user, the cosmetic industry adds collagen to products such as eye creams, face creams, and nutritional supplements, and uses it in medical aesthetic techniques such as tissue fillers, skin replacement, and soft skin enhancement. This paper mainly reviews the sources and types of collagen used in cosmetics industry, then introduces the effects of collagen in cosmetics and prospects the development prospects of collagen in dermatologic and cosmetic fields.

文摘Along with the proliferating research interest in semantic communication(Sem Com),joint source channel coding(JSCC)has dominated the attention due to the widely assumed existence in efficiently delivering information semantics.Nevertheless, this paper challenges the conventional JSCC paradigm and advocates for adopting separate source channel coding(SSCC)to enjoy a more underlying degree of freedom for optimization. We demonstrate that SSCC,after leveraging the strengths of the Large Language Model(LLM)for source coding and Error Correction Code Transformer(ECCT)complemented for channel coding, offers superior performance over JSCC.Our proposed framework also effectively highlights the compatibility challenges between Sem Com approaches and digital communication systems, particularly concerning the resource costs associated with the transmission of high-precision floating point numbers.Through comprehensive evaluations,we establish that assisted by LLM-based compression and ECCT-enhanced error correction,SSCC remains a viable and effective solution for modern communication systems. In other words, separate source channel coding is still what we need.
