This paper reviews the historical context of the p...The Anne Frank House, site of Anne Frank＇s place of hiding 1942-1944, has become a leading tourist attraction in Amsterdam and among heritage sites of the Holocaust. This paper reviews the historical context of the political events from 1933 to 1945, the circumstances for the betrayal, and arrest of the group in hiding, the saving of Anne Frank＇s diary and its publication after her death at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in March 1945. Further, the paper reconstructs the beginnings of the heritage site as a small museum at 263 Prinsengracht in 1960 as well as the management issues and capacity problems that led to a larger museum complex including an educational center in 1999. During the years of 2007-2010, when the annual visitation of the museum surpassed one million, the Anne Frank House decided to introduce a high quality 3D version of the Secret Annex on the Intemet. In the final part of the paper, trends in museum management and the more frequent uses of a digital documentation of heritages sites are reviewed.展开更多

Videotaped excerpts from her intermediate-...This paper takes a microanalytic perspective on the speech and gestures used by one teacher of ESL （English as a Second Language） in an intensive English program classroom. Videotaped excerpts from her intermediate-level grammar course were transcribed to represent the speech, gesture and other non-verbal behavior that accompanied unplanned explanations of vocabulary that arose during three focus-on-form lessons. The gesture classification system of McNeill （1992）, which delineates different types of hand movements （iconics metaphorics, deictics, beats）, was used to understand the role the gestures played in these explanations. Results suggest that gestures and other non-verbal behavior are forms of input to classroom second language learners that must be considered a salient factor in classroom-based SLA （Second Language Acquisition） research展开更多
Holocaust memorial sites rarely tell the story of individual fates but rather give attention to the main or larger population groups that were the focus of persecution and extermination during the Nazi Germany twelve ...Holocaust memorial sites rarely tell the story of individual fates but rather give attention to the main or larger population groups that were the focus of persecution and extermination during the Nazi Germany twelve years of terror in Europe 1933-45. This essay takes a closer look at one of the most remarkable exemptions of the prevailing memory culture at Holocaust memorials： the sites and events highlighting Anne Frank and her short life in troubled times. Over the past years millions of travelers from all over the world have shown a genuine interest in learning about the life world of their young heroine thus creating what has been termed Anne Frank Tourism. In 2014, 1.2 million people visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam： the museum and educational center, the place in hiding where she wrote her now famous and widely read diary. Several other sites connected to the life path of Anne Frank, from her birth place in Frankfurt to the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp where her life prematurely ended, have also become part of the mostly young tourists＇ search for Anne Frank＇s life and legacy. With the rising popularity of Anne Frank related sites the management of some of the locales has become more problematic which is discussed in the context of a several museums, centers and historic sites. On a more general note, it is argued here that in recent years the more group oriented commemoration practices at Holocaust sites have given way to a trend of putting individual faces to the victims of the Holocaust. It was, in particular, novels, films and TV productions about the Holocaust that emphasized individual life paths and events and enticed visitation to more personalized sites. Steven Spielberg＇s popular movie Schindler＇s List, for example, contributed to ＂Schindler tourism＂, a form of special interest tourism in Krakow. More and more Holocaust memorial sites have also started to honor outstanding individuals or small groups in resistance and opposition to Nazi Germany. Examples of this are the fighters of the 1943 uprising at the Sobibor death camp and the courageous student members of the ＂White Rose＂ in Munich who stood up to the powers of the time and were executed. In the concluding part the question will be raised of what is the proper approach in the representation of the fate of the victims of Nazi Germany： A personalized approach or a greater focus on an explanation of the ideology and policies behind the rule of terror which may contribute to the visitors＇ better understanding of a complex history？展开更多

The pulsating heat pipe is a very promising heat dissipation device to address the challenge of higher heat-flux electronic chips,as it is characterised by excellent heat transfer ability and flexibility for miniaturi...The pulsating heat pipe is a very promising heat dissipation device to address the challenge of higher heat-flux electronic chips,as it is characterised by excellent heat transfer ability and flexibility for miniaturisation.To boost the application of PHP,reliable heat transfer performance evaluationmodels are especially important.In this paper,a heat transfer correlation was firstly proposed for closed PHP with various working fluids(water,ethanol,methanol,R123,acetone)based on collected experimental data.Dimensional analysis was used to group the parameters.It was shown that the average absolute deviation(AAD)and correlation coefficient(r)of the correlation were 40.67%and 0.7556,respectively.For 95%of the data,the prediction of thermal resistance and the temperature difference between evaporation and condensation section fell within 1.13K/Wand 40.76K,respectively.Meanwhile,an artificial neural networkmodelwas also proposed.The ANN model showed a better prediction accuracy with a mean square error(MSE)and correlation coefficient(r)of 7.88e-7 and 0.9821,respectively.展开更多
The objective of the investigation is to carry out the flow routing in the natural channel of the experimental basin of the Ichu river, by means of the Artificial Intelligence technique of ANNs (Artificial Neural Netw...The objective of the investigation is to carry out the flow routing in the natural channel of the experimental basin of the Ichu river, by means of the Artificial Intelligence technique of ANNs (Artificial Neural Networks). Generally, hydrological and hydraulic methods require different parameters of the river channel, while the ANNs method simplifies the amount of data. The study area is located in the experimental basin of the Ichu river, upstream of the city of Huancavelica in an area of 607 km^2. A calibrated and validated model of the rain-runoff process was developed, with data recorded in 6 automatic meteorological stations (rainfall) and one hydrological station (runoff). The model HEC-1 was used to model the rain-runoff process and the Muskingun-Cunge method for the flood rounting, generating historical records for 5 stretches of the Ichu riverbed and obtaining 39 maximum historical records in the 2016 periods and 2017. The model obtained values of Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficients (E) equal to 0.851 and 0.828 for the calibration and validation stage, respectively. The ANNs were built with different architectures to train and obtain the architecture that best fits the historical phenomena. Finally, the architecture 1-5-1 presented a better fit, whose statistical E was values of 0.881 and 0.859 in the training and validation stage respectively.展开更多

In this article, we propose a new Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model for detection of a spectrum hole. The model is trained with some pertinent features over a channel like SNR, channel capacity, bandwidth efficiency etc. The channel capacity status could be identified in a quantized index form . In this research article,we introduce a numerical investigation through artificial neural networks(ANN)integrated with evolutionary algorithm especially Archimedean optimization algorithm(AOA)hybrid with the water cyc...In this research article,we introduce a numerical investigation through artificial neural networks(ANN)integrated with evolutionary algorithm especially Archimedean optimization algorithm(AOA)hybrid with the water cycle algorithm(WCA)to address and enhance the analysis of the non-linear magneto-hydrodynamic(MHD)Jeffery-Hamel problem,especially stretching/shrinking in convergent and divergent channel.This combined technique is referred to as ANN-AOA-WCA.The complex nonlinear magneto-hydrodynamic Jeffery-Hamel problem based partial differential equations are transformed into non-linear system of ordinary differential equations for velocity and temperature.We formulate the ANN based fitness function to find the solution of non-linear differential.Subsequently,we employ a novel hybridization of AOA and WCA(AOA-WCA)to optimize the ANN based fitness function and identify the best optimal weights and biases for ANN.To demonstrate the effectiveness and versatility of our proposed hybrid method,we explore MHD models across a range of Reynolds numbers,channel angles and stretchable boundary value leading to the development of two distinct cases.ANN-AOA-WCA numerical results closely align with reference solutions(NDSOLVE)and the absolute error between NDSOLVE and ANN-AOA-WCA is up to 3.35´10^(-8),particularly critical to the understanding of stretchable convergent and divergent channel.Furthermore,to validate the ANN-AOA-WCA technique,we conducted a statistical analysis over 150 independence runs to find the fitness value.展开更多
