It reviews how we utilized visual stimuli for induc-ing behavioral responses in the zebrafish with a focus on shoaling, group forming behavior. Thezebrafish is gaining increasing popularity in neuroscience. With this interest, its behavior is alsomore frequently studied. One of the many advantages of the zebrafish over traditional laboratoryrodents is that this species is diurnal, and it relies heavily upon its visual system. Thus, similarly toour own species, zebrafish respond to visual stimuli in a robust and easily quantifiable manner. Forthe past decade, we have been exploring how to use such visual stimuli, and have developed nu-merous paradigms with which we can induce and quantify a variety of behavioral responses, including shoaling. This review summarizes some of these studies, and discusses questions includ-ing whether one should use live fish as stimulus, whether and how one could present animated(moving images) of fish, and how one could optimize a range of stimulus presentation parametersto elicit the most robust responses in zebrafish. Although the zebrafish is a relative newcomer inethology and behavioral neuroscience, and although many of our findings only represent the firststeps in this research, our results suggest that the behavioral analysis of the zebrafish will have animportant place in biomedical research.展开更多

Well-validated assessment instruments are lacking for those under age eight years. Method: Children ages 4 - 10 years with primary diagnosis of anxiety disorder (n = 74;33 boys, 41 girls) or no diagnosis (n = 83;40 boys, 43 girls) completed MAAC for 16 feelings. Those 8 - 10 years also completed standardized measures of internalizing symptoms. Results: MAAC’s emotions clustered into positive, negative, fearful, and calm/neutral factors. Clinical children rated themselves less positive (difference score -3.18;p = 0.002) and less calm/neutral (difference score -2.06;p = 0.04), and explored fewer emotions spontaneously (difference score = -2.37;p = 0.02) than nonanxious controls. Older children’s responses correlated with scores on several standardized measures. Conclusions: MAAC appears to be highly engaging, with clinical utility in the assessment of young anxious children. Applications in other populations are considered for future study.展开更多

Themethodology provides a structured way of integrating mathematical and logicalmodel, statistical experimentation, and statistical analysis with computeranimation. Within this methodology, an animated simulation study is separatedinto six different activities: simulation objectives identification, system modeldevelopment, simulation experiment specification, animation layoutconstruction, real-time simulation and animation run, and output dataanalysis. These six activities are objectives driven, relatively independent, andintegrate through software organization and simulation files. The key ideasbehind this methodology are objectives orientation, modelling flexibility, simulation and animation integration, and application tailorability. 文摘Cartographic animation has been developed and widely used in geo-visualisation and many other areas in recent years. The usability of animated maps is a key characteristic affecting map users’effectiveness and efficiency in accomplishing tasks. In this paper,an eye tracking approach was proposed as a visual analytics method to evaluate the usability of animated maps by capturing participants’eye movement data and quantitatively analysing the accuracy(effectiveness)and response time(efficiency)of users’task completion. In the study,a set of animated traffic maps represented by three important visual variables(colour hue, size and frequency)was used for the usability evaluation. The experimental results showed that the usability of these three visual variables for cartographic animation affects the usability of animated maps.Red,yellow, and aqua were found to convey map information more effectively than other colour hues.Size was found to be more usable than colour hues for both animated maps and static maps.Usability was not found to be proportional to the playback rate of animated maps.Furthermore, the usability of the frequency, colour hue,and size was found to be related to the display’s size.We hope that the analysis approach presented in this paper and the results of this study will be of help in the design of cartographic animation displays with better usability.
