In this study,we developed a simple screening procedure for the determination of 18 anthelmintics(including benzimidazoles, macrocyclic lactones, salicylanilides, substituted phenols, tetrahydropyrimidines, and imidazothiazoles)in five animal-derived food matrices(chicken muscle, pork, beef, milk, and egg)using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.Analytes were extracted using acetonitrile/1% acetic acid(milk and egg)and acetonitrile/1% acetic acid with 0.5 mL of distilled water(chicken muscle, pork, and beef),and purified using saturated n-hexane/acetonitrile.A reversed-phase analytical column and a mobile phase consisting of(A)10 mM ammonium formate in distilled water and(B)methanol were used to achieve optimal chromatographic separation.Matrix-matched standard calibration curves(R^(2)≥0.9752)were obtained for concentration equivalent to ×1/2,×1,×2,×3,×4,and×5 fold the maximum residue limit(MRL)stipulated by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.Recoveries of 61.2e118.4%,with relative standard deviations(RSDs)of ≤19.9%(intraday and interday),were obtained for each sample at three spiking concentrations(×1/2,×1,and ×2 the MRL values).Limits of detection, limits of quantification, and matrix effects were 0.02e5.5 mg/kg,0.06e10 mg/kg,and -98.8 to 13.9%(at 20 μg/kg),respectively.In five samples of each food matrix(chicken muscle, pork, beef, milk, and egg)purchased from large retailers in Seoul that were tested, none of the target analytes were detected. It has therefore been shown that this protocol is adaptable, accurate, and precise for the quantification of anthelmintic residues in foods of animal origin. 展开更多

A twelve week experiment was conducted to compare the effects of diets with plant-based and animal-based ingredients on growth and gonad development of Clarias gariepinus. One hundred and 12 sub-adult C. gariepinus with an average weight of 205 ×5.09 g, were stocked in six concrete tanks (9 × 4 × 2 m3) containing 20 fish each. Experiment had 3 replicates and animals fed daily at 5% body weights. There was no significant difference (P 〈 0.05) in proximate compositions of the two experimental feeds and controls. Fecundity, gonad weight and gonasomatic index were higher in fish fed diet 13 than A and C. Similarly, growth indices were higher in fish fed diet B than in A and C. Histology of gonads showed a faster development of oocytes of eggs in fish fed animal-based ingredients than plant-based and combined plant and animal diets. Although there were slight differences in growth parameters and gonad development in favor of feed with animal-based ingredients, plant-based feed compared favorably in the growth and gonad development of C. gariepinus. Plant-based ingredients are recommended on the basis of affordability and availability as substitute for animal-based ingredients in C. gariepinus feed. 展开更多

This review attempts to delineate the effects and roles of fermented foods on allergic responses(AR),specifically from milk, plant, and meat sources.Evidence for AR alleviation and aggravation were noted for many different fermented food groups.Positive outcomes on AR through fermented foods could be linked to microbial hydrolysis of food allergens, improvement in gut microbiota robustness, and modulation of the immune system that promotes a balance between T helper 1(Th1)and Th2 cells.Studies on plant-based,non-protein rich fermented foods tend to show more favourable results compared to those on meat-based or protein-rich group. The usage of specific and known starter cultures are helpful in alleviating AR,as in the case for many yogurt,Kefir or Dahi products.Sufficient fermentation time was also deemed important, exemplified in studies that showed inefficient AR reduction through consumption of fresh cheese. However, formation of new allergens through fermentation of certain meat-based foods,or by using specific fermenting microbes(e.g.Penicillium sp.),is possible. Thus, combination of starter cultures and food substrates must be considered in preventing or eliminating AR from intake of these foods. This review may aid consumers to make informed decision during the consumption of fermented food. 展开更多
