This study examines the predictive roles of foreign language classroom anxiety(FLCA),foreign language enjoyment(FLE),and foreign language boredom(FLB)in English achievement among Chinese senior high school students.De...This study examines the predictive roles of foreign language classroom anxiety(FLCA),foreign language enjoyment(FLE),and foreign language boredom(FLB)in English achievement among Chinese senior high school students.Despite extensive research on anxiety in language learning,less attention has been given to boredom,and the combined effects of these three emotions on English achievement remain under-explored,particularly among high school students in China.To address these gaps,a sample of 142 students from Guangzhou was surveyed using questionnaires to assess their emotional experiences and English achievement.The research found that FLE exhibited a positive correlation with academic performance,while FLCA and FLB showed negative associations.Notably,FLE was the most significant predictor of English achievement,followed by FLCA and FLB.Gender differences were observed,with male students reporting significantly higher levels of environmental enjoyment,while female students experienced significantly greater communication anxiety.On this basis,this paper offers suggestions on how to enhance senior high school students’FLE while mitigating FLCA and FLB,thereby promoting more effective and sustained English learning.展开更多
Mental healthcare in Ethiopia is underutilized due to a lack of resources and skilled practitioners.Psychological counselling offers unique intervention possibilities because of its focus on a wide range of mental hea...Mental healthcare in Ethiopia is underutilized due to a lack of resources and skilled practitioners.Psychological counselling offers unique intervention possibilities because of its focus on a wide range of mental health and social justice issues.This literature review tracks the historical development of the profession of psychological counselling in Ethiopia to establish what has been achieved to date and the development challenges.Key achievements include recognition of the profession by the Ministry of Education,growing public awareness,and increasing capacity of practitioners skilled in psychological counselling.Challenges include limited contextually relevant training,poor representation of the profession within Ministry of Health policies,poor public and government mental health literacy,and a lack of regulatory frameworks.Postgraduate training would benefit from more culturally,contextually,and linguistically appropriate evidence-based,indigenous psychology practices.The profession would benefit from engagement in government policy development that promotes mental health,and professional regulatory bodies to hold practitioners accountable to professional standards and ethical practice.展开更多

Data analyzed for White students compared to African American and Hispanic students have provided critical information in identifying academic progress and skill deficits for all students. This article will highlight some of the achievement gaps which exit among White, African American and Hispanic Students. The purpose of the present study aimed to compare the relationships betweenachievement emotions, motivation, and language learning strategies of high, mid and low achievers in Englishlanguage learning at an international university in a southern province in China. Quantitative data were collectedthrough a questionnaire survey of 74 （16 males, 58 females） TESL major students. Results indicated that studentsin general experienced more positive than negative achievement emotions; more intrinsically rather thanextrinsically motivated to learn English; and quite frequently used a variety of learning strategies to overcome theirlearning difficulties. However, Year Four low-achievers experienced more negative achievement emotions. Theyseldom used metacognitive, affective and social learning strategies, and they had lower degrees of intrinsicmotivation. Hybrid rice research was initiated back in 1964, and commercialized in 1976. Three-line and two-line system hybrid rice were developed in 1974 and 1995, respectively. Research on super hybrid rice, which was first launched by Ministry of Agriculture, China in 1996, is discussed, and the great progress of super hybrid rice had been achieved with a new yield record by 15.4 t ha^-1 in the 6.84 ha demonstration location in Xupu, Hunan Province, China in 2014. And the mechanism of heterosis, the techniques of hybrid seed production and the modern field managements in hybrid rice over the past decades are also discussed. Additionally, this article dealt with the intellectual property protection（IPR） and development of hybrid rice seed industry in China. Major factors that constrain hybrid rice development are analyzed and possible solutions to this problems are proposed. Finally, the authors present methods to further increase production yield, and propose an improvement for breeding super high-yielding hybrid rice based on these methods.展开更多
As the focus on academic achievement has increased,physical activity(PA) opportunities in schools have decreased in the United States.In an attempt to discover how the decline in PA may affect academic achievement,res...As the focus on academic achievement has increased,physical activity(PA) opportunities in schools have decreased in the United States.In an attempt to discover how the decline in PA may affect academic achievement,researchers have been studying the effects of PA on cognition and academic achievement in children for more than 50 years.This review takes a historical perspective on the science of PA and academic achievement prior to and during the past 5 years.A total of 125 published articles were included and reviewed.Fifty-three of these articles were published in the past 5 years.In recent years,the overall quality of the studies has increased,but the results continue to be inconsistent.Many use cross-sectional designs and the methods vary substantially.The majority of conclusions show a positive effect of PA on constructs related to academic achievement.Future studies should use strong study designs to examine the types and doses of PA needed to produce improvements in academic achievement.展开更多
