Climate and anthropogenic drivers of changes in abundance of C4 annuals and perennials in grasslands on the Mongolian Plateau 被引量:1

Background:C4 plants have increased substantially during the past several decades in the grasslands of the Mongolian Plateau due to regional warming.Here,we explore how the patterns of abundances of C4 annuals and C4 perennials change over space and time.Methods:A total of 280 sites with C4 plants were surveyed in four types of grasslands in 9 years.The relative biomasses of C4 plants(PC4),C4 annuals(PA4),and C4 perennials(PP4)were calculated.Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the drivers of changes in PA4 and PP4.Results:At the regional scale,PA4 on average was 11%(±19%,SD)and PP4 was 13%(±19%,SD).Spatially,C4 annuals dominated the C4 communities within an east–west belt region along 44°N and tended to spread toward northern latitudes(about 0.5°)and higher altitudes in the east mountainous areas.The abundance of C4 annuals decreased,while that of C4 perennials increased.The patterns of C4 annuals and C4 perennials were mainly controlled by temperature,growing season precipitation,and dynamics between the two life forms.Conclusions:C4 annuals exhibited competitive advantages in normal and wet years,while C4 perennials had competitive advantages in dry years.Grazing as a main human disturbance increased C4 annuals,but had no significant effect on C4 perennials. 展开更多

To address the challenges of high energy consumption and prominent costs in the traditional three-columns distillation process for cellulosic fuel ethanol,a distillation–molecular sieve coupling separation process is proposed.This process integrates a three-column(crude distillation column,first distillation column,second distillation column)system with a 3A molecular sieve adsorption deep dehydration unit.A thermal coupling network is constructed via differential pressure design(steam from medium/high-pressure columns as mutual heat sources,reboiler liquid waste heat for feed preheating),and molecular sieve adsorption conditions are optimized.The study first performs a thermodynamic consistency test on the ethanol–water system,determines optimal non-random two-liquid(NRTL)model binary interaction parameters via experimental data regression for Aspen Plus simulation.Aiming at minimum total annual cost(TAC),Aspen Plus is used to optimize process parameters(theoretical tray number,feed location,reflux ratio,side-draw position,etc.).Economic analysis shows this process reduces CO_(2) emission costs by 27.56%,TAC by 15.58%(to 5.123×10^(6) USD·a^(−1)),and increases ethanol purity to>99.6%,providing an effective solution for green,efficient separation. 展开更多

In the tropical regions represented by Hainan,there are abundant solar and thermal resources,and it is relatively suitable for the construction of photovoltaic greenhouse(PVG).However,the construction of PVG still relies mainly on experience and is incapable of quantifying the balance between the photovoltaic(PV)generation and the light requirements for agricultural production.As a result,actual PVGs are primarily PV-based,without carefully considering the needs of agricultural daylighting.To quantify the influence of the design parameters of PVGs and the layout of PV panels on the internal daylighting of serrated PVGs,and to optimize the daylighting design of the roof,this paper utilizes the Design Builder software to establish gradient models for a multi-span serrated-type PVG in tropical regions.Gradient models were established in terms of aspects,namely span,width of longitudinal/transverse daylighting strip,height,roof angle,and photovoltaic panel coverage rate(PCR).Daylighting in the greenhouse of each gradient model was simulated,and with the annual average daily light integral(A_(DLI))and distribution uniformity(DU)as evaluation indicators,the influence of various design parameters on the daylighting inside the greenhouse was quantified.The result reveals that:(1)PCR is the decisive indicator for daylighting in the PVG,and a function between PCR and the A_(DLI) is derived as A_(DLI)=-15.5 PCR+16.841;(2)Increasing the width of longitudinal daylighting strip significantly improves the A_(DLI) and enhances DU while increasing the span has a noticeable effect on improving A_(DLI) but does not significantly enhance DU;(3)Increasing the eave height without changing PCR does not enhance A_(DLI) but effectively improves DU;increasing the transverse daylighting strip and adjusting the roof angle hardly improves A_(DLI).In summary,it is recommended that the optimal span for PVGs in tropical regions be set within the range of 6.5-8.0m,and the eave height be set within the range of 2.5-3.5m.Preferably,the longitudinal daylighting strip with a width ranging from 0.5-0.8m should be installed.Based on the above relationship function,the PCR can be calculated according to the appropriate light demand for the cultivated crops.The daylighting design theory proposed in this paper can provide a theoretical basis and reference for the healthy development of the PV industry in tropical regions. 展开更多

Impacts of the annual cycle of background SST in the tropical Pacific on the phase and amplitude of ENSO

The dominant annual cycle of sea surface temperature(SST)in the tropical Pacific exhibits an antisymmetric mode,which explains 83.4%total variance,and serves as a background of El Niño-Southern Oscillation(ENSO).However,there is no consensus yet on its anomalous impacts on the phase and amplitude of ENSO.Based on data during 1982-2022,results show that anomalies of the antisymmetric mode can affect the evolution of ENSO on the interannual scale via Bjerknes feedback,in which the positive(negative)phase of the antisymmetric mode can strengthen El Niño(La Niña)in boreal winter via an earlier(delayed)seasonal cycle transition and larger(smaller)annual mean.The magnitude of the SST anomalies in the equatorial eastern Pacific can reach more than±0.3◦C,regulated by the changes in the antisymmetric mode based on random sensitivity analysis.Results reveal the spatial pattern of the annual cycle associated with the seasonal phase-locking of ENSO evolution and provide new insight into the impact of the annual cycle of background SST on ENSO,which possibly carries important implications for forecasting ENSO. 展开更多

This study investigates trends in extreme precipitation events(EPEs)across Antarctica from 1979 to 2023,analyzing changes in EPE frequency,intensity,and the proportion of extreme to total precipitation.Using Self-Organizing Map(SOM)techniques,the study distinguishes the contributions from thermodynamic,dynamic,and interaction components in explaining these trends.Positive EPE occurrence trends are observed across the Bellingshausen and Weddell Seas,Dronning Maud Land,and parts of the Southern Ocean,with declines limited to Queen Mary Land.Thermodynamic factors,responsible for 96.0%of the overall trend,are driven by increased water vapor content in polar air masses.Dynamic contributions,representing 10.8%,are linked to a strengthened Amundsen Sea Low(ASL)associated with the Southern Annular Mode(SAM)and Pacific South American(PSA)trends.Interaction effects make a slightly negative contribution(-6.8%)to the overall trend.Variations in water vapor transport and vertical velocity tied to annual 500-hPa geopotential height anomalies further explain EPE trends.These findings provide insight into the atmospheric processes that influence Antarctic EPEs,with implications for understanding the climatic impact on the polar environment. 展开更多

The annual maximum rainfall event(AMRE)refers to the maximum consecutive five-day rainfall in a year.In North China,these events account for 15%–80%of the total summer(June–August)rainfall amount and pose a great challenge for subseasonal-to-seasonal forecasting.Based on data analyses during 1979–2023,this study shows the interannual variability of AMRE is significantly influenced by the phase and amplitude mode of the annual cycle of the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM),characterized by two orthogonal patterns of southeasterly winds at 850 h Pa over the northwestern Pacific.The EASM phase-locked AMRE shows heavy rainfall events occurring extremely early and late in Beijing and surrounding areas,corresponding to the peak southeasterly wind anomalies in June and August.The EASM amplitude-locked AMRE exhibits extreme heavy or light rainfall over southwest areas with normal phase.Therefore,AMRE has a potential predictability on the seasonal time scale due to its phase-and amplitude-locking with the slow variation of the annual cycle of the EASM. 展开更多

Acupuncture has been widely recognized for its significant therapeutic effects in treating a variety of conditions,including pain management,cerebrovascular diseases,cancer-related symptoms,respiratory disorders,and neurological diseases.A large body of clinical research demonstrates the substantial benefits of acupuncture,such as improving post-stroke recovery,alleviating chronic pain,reducing chemotherapy-induced symptoms,and promoting perioperative recovery.Mechanistic studies have shown that acupuncture influences multiple physiological systems,particularly the nervous,immune,and endocrine systems,providing insights into how acupuncture modulates neuroinflammation,neurotransmitter release,and immune responses.The role of acupuncture in integrative medicine is increasingly significant,with growing recognition of its therapeutic efficacy in regions outside China,particularly in Europe and the Americas.Acupuncture is expected to continue to expand its application,offering effective non-pharmacological treatment options in various fields,thereby consolidating its position in modern healthcare.Ongoing research holds the promise that acupuncture will play a key role in managing chronic diseases and supporting overall health.The 2024 acupuncture annual review will provide a comprehensive summary of the latest clinical applications and mechanistic research in acupuncture,with the aim of elucidating the current landscape and guiding future directions in the field. 展开更多
