The close phylogenetic relationship between humans and non-human primates makes non-human primates an irreplaceable model for the study of human infectious diseases.In this study,we describe the development of a large-scale automatic multi-functional isolation chamber for use with medium-sized laboratory animals carrying infectious diseases.The isolation chamber,including the transfer chain,disinfection chain,negative air pressure isolation system,animal welfare system,and the automated system,is designed to meet all biological safety standards.To create an internal chamber environment that is completely isolated from the exterior,variable frequency drive blowers are used in the air-intake and air-exhaust system,precisely controlling the filtered air flow and providing an air-barrier protection.A double door transfer port is used to transfer material between the interior of the isolation chamber and the outside.A peracetic acid sterilizer and its associated pipeline allow for complete disinfection of the isolation chamber.All of the isolation chamber parameters can be automatically controlled by a programmable computerized menu,allowing for work with different animals in different-sized cages depending on the research project.The large-scale multi-functional isolation chamber provides a useful and safe system for working with infectious medium-sized laboratory animals in high-level bio-safety laboratories. 展开更多

Therapeutic experiments are commonly performed on laboratory animals to inves-tigate the possible mechanism(s)of action of toxic agents as well as drugs or sub-stances under consideration.The use of toxins in laboratory animal models,including rats,is intended to cause toxicity.This study aimed to investigate different models of hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity in laboratory animals to help researchers advance their research goals.The current narrative review used databases such as Medline,Web of Science,Scopus,and Embase and appropriate keywords until June 2021.Nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity models derived from some toxic agents such as cisplatin,acetaminophen,doxorubicin,some anticancer drugs,and other materials through various signaling pathways are investigated.To understand the models of renal or hepatotoxicity in laboratory animals,we have provided a list of toxic agents and their toxicity procedures in this review. 展开更多

Malaysia's commemoration of the second Asia Laboratory Animal Day(ALAD)in 2025 marked a notable step forward in strengthening national and regional laboratory animal science,ethical governance,and humane research practices.Celebrated a day earlier on 28 November,an initiative led by the Laboratory Animal Science Association of Malaysia(LASAM),comprised a coordinated three-month programme from September to November.A series of targeted activities were conducted,including professional exchange visits,competency-based rodent care and use workshops,refinement-centred blood sampling training,and institutional lectures on ethics and welfare.These engagements involved researchers,technicians,ethics committee members,and undergraduate trainees;reflecting ALAD's aim of fostering ethical awareness and technical proficiency across all levels of research personnel.A major highlight of the campaign was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between LASAM and Universiti Teknologi MARA(UiTM),strengthening long-term collaboration in training,welfare standard harmonisation,and shared ethical governance.The programme also delivered measurable outcomes:over 92%of participants improved their understanding of the 3Rs and humane endpoints,more than 95%attained competency in basic rodent handling,and national interest in laboratory animal science increased,as reflected by rising LASAM membership.Malaysia's ALAD initiatives emphasise the importance of grassroots engagement,refinement-based training,and strong institutional partnerships in advancing ethical and humane science.The country's experience provides a replicable framework for other Asian regions seeking to enhance welfare capacity,harmonise standards,and cultivate responsible research communities.Malaysia remains committed to supporting ALAD's ongoing mission to advance scientific integrity and animal welfare across Asia. 展开更多
