Emphasizing on the effect of the sea wave, the albatross is simplified as a two-dimensional airfoil and the panel method based on the potential flow theory is employed to calculate the wave effect on the aerodynamic forces. The numerical results have been presented for the states of flying at different constant speeds with constant heights above sea level, and flying at different constant speeds with the combined oscillations of pitching and free heaving. It is shown that the albatross flight efficiency depends on not only the speed and height of flight but also the wave amplitude and the wavelength. The albatross benefits by wave effect to get thrust, so as to reduce the resistance in the circumstances of rough sea.展开更多

Tidal fronts are present and they can be modeled by a 2-Dtidal model. Density currents have also been observed with seasonal variations due to the influence ofwet or dry seasons. This paper reviews the effects of these dynamics on the migration of prawn postlarvae in AlbatrossBay and its estuaries. It is found that through its vertical movement triggered by change of salinity theprawn postlarvae can be transported from the coast to the estuary by tides within 2.8 weeks. Howeverthis horizontal displacement mechanism may be destroyed by the tidal front in Albatross Bay. Densitycurrents may alter prawn postlarvae positions in Albatross Bay on a seasonal scale.展开更多

A masterpiece of Indian, Asian, and World literatures, which was originally published in 1965 as Manohara Grantha Mala, Dharwar and translated into English in 1976 as Samskara, has received significant scholarly attention capped with Samskara: A Critical Reader edited by Kailash C. Baral, D., Venkat Rao, and Sura P. Rath (2009), the first volume of its kind to be published on one of the classics of Indian literature. The protagonist of the novel, Praneshacharya, the spiritual leader of a community of conservative Brahmins, experiences and realizes certain natural and universal elements that can strongly undergird his calling as a spiritual head of a community after committing adultery at an unguarded moment with a prostitute. An understanding and appreciation of the reality of natural desires need not be accompanied by religious dogma. At the end of the novel which does not really have any closure, he is beginning to honestly position himself to appreciate and preserve humanity and spirituality in a more robust manner rather than in his past stance of asceticism and sticking narrowly to the letter of his religion. What is attempted here is a critical examination of Putta as an albatross and as a catalyst in the beginning transformation of the protagonist from a narrow life of asceticism and self-denial into a fuller life of integration of spirituality and humanity.展开更多
The flight of albatross (Diomedea exulans) takes advantage of the up-drift which is determined by the product of relative wind velocity and it’s gradient above the sea surface, to power its elegant (dynamic) flight o...The flight of albatross (Diomedea exulans) takes advantage of the up-drift which is determined by the product of relative wind velocity and it’s gradient above the sea surface, to power its elegant (dynamic) flight over the ocean. Some of the complicated flight manoeuvres are determined by biological necessities. From its most basic flight manoeuvre a technical aerodynamically scheme can be derived which allows the design of a mechanical technical prototype of a wind generator. It is based on a rotational movement in combination with a skillful time dependent adjustment of the airfoil. Several technical possibilities are discussed and with one of these elaborated in some detail. The technology to be developed could be applied in highly asymmetric air streaming environment around high rise buildings, on mountain ridges and of course, also low above sea level and plains. Mathematical-technical conditions for power gain are discussed. The technology could, in principle, also be deployed to exploit velocity gradients in river water environment. The engineering challenges are significant and the presented work is just a blueprint for tasks to be accomplished.展开更多
