Stimulated Raman adiabatic passage(STIRAP)is a widely used technique for efficient population transfer between quantum states.However,the adiabatic nature of STIRAP requires slow evolution,leading to long operation times,which limits its practical applications.The superadiabatic method has been introduced to accelerate the STIRAP process,but it often necessitates additional couplings between the initial and target states,which may not be available in the original Hamiltonian.In this work,we present a novel approach to implement superadiabatic STIRAP(sa-STIRAP)between dressed states in a three-level quantum system.By modulating the amplitude and phase of the original driving fields,the initial and target states in dressed-state space can be effectively coupled.This approach provides a practical means of realizing sa-STIRAP in experimental setups,making it convenient to accelerate adiabatic quantum state transfer. 展开更多

3-dB couplers are key building blocks for on-chip optical switches,optical phased arrays,and photonic computing applications,for the ease of realizing balanced beam splitting and combining.Adiabatic3-dB couplers ensur... 3-dB couplers are key building blocks for on-chip optical switches,optical phased arrays,and photonic computing applications,for the ease of realizing balanced beam splitting and combining.Adiabatic3-dB couplers ensure exclusive excitation and propagation of the fundamental eigenmode along the waveguide,characterized by low insertion loss,broad bandwidth,low power imbalance,and resilience to fabrication variations.However,conventional adiabatic designs need to extend the propagation length to achieve broadband performance.In this paper,we overcome such a length-bandwidth trade-off by employing fast quasi-adiabatic(FAQUAD)dynamics in the TFLN 3-dB couplers,thereby accelerating the mode evolution process.Theoretical analysis predicts that the proposed 2×2 FAQUAD 3-dB coupler exhibits an unprecedented operation bandwidth of 350 nm(1285 to 1635 nm)with a FAQUAD taper length of only 88.9μm.Experimental characterization of the fabricated device demonstrates broadband 3-dB power splitting over 165 nm(exceeding the range of the used tunable laser:1470 to 1635 nm),achieving the power imbalance of<0.5 dB and insertion loss of 0.14 dB.Those results establish the foundation for next-generation photonic integrated circuits featuring high efficiency,compact footprint,and ultra-wide bandwidth. 展开更多

Based on the investigation of mechanical response and microstructure evolution of a commercial 7003 aluminum alloy under high-speed impact,a new simple and effective method was proposed to determine the critical strain required for the nucleation of adiabatic shear band(ASB).The deformation results of cylindrical and hat-shaped samples show that the critical strain required for ASB nucleation corresponds to the strain at the first local minimum after peak stress on the first derivative curve of true stress−true strain.The method of determining the critical strain for the nucleation of ASB through the first derivative of the flow stress curve is named the first derivative method.The proposed first derivative method is not only applicable to the 7003 aluminum alloy,but also to other metal materials,such as commercial purity titanium,WY-100 steel,and AM80 magnesium alloy.This proves that it has strong universality. 展开更多

With the upgrade of armor protection materials,higher requirements are put forward for the penetration performance of tungsten alloy kinetic energy armor-piercing projectiles,and the penetration performance is closely related to the adiabatic shear band under extreme stress conditions.Here,the detailed analysis of the adiabatic shear band microstructure evolution of a dual-phase 90W-Ni-Fe alloy under a high strain rate was conducted by combining advanced electron microscopic characterization,while discussing shear fracture from a mechanical perspective under thermoplastic instability.The high temperature and high stress environment inside the adiabatic shear band led to the refinement of the W phase andγ-(Ni,Fe)phase grains to the submicron level,and induced the elements redistribution of W,Ni,and Fe to precipitate W nanocrystalline with hardness as high as 11.7 GPa along the recrystallization grain boundaries of theγ-(Ni,Fe)phase.Mechanical incompatibility caused by the hardness difference between W nanocrystalline andγ-(Ni,Fe)phases led to a strain gradient at the interface.The microvoids preferentially nucleated at the W nanocrystalline/γ-(Ni,Fe)phase interface,then merged to form microcracks and grew further,leading to shear failure. 展开更多

The classical-quantum analogue offers a new platform for exploring extreme dynamic control of mechanical systems.In this work,the concept of the stimulated adiabatic passage of quantum states is extended to mechanical systems for achieving unidirectional energy transportation.The mechanical analog of stimulated adiabatic passage is realized in three mechanical resonators coupled with the time-varying stiffness,which are delicately modulated to mimic the selective population of quantum states.Based on the tight-binding approximation,an analytical model for the classical-quantum analogue of the adiabatic passage effect is established to realize the one-way energy transfer control.Numerical results demonstrate that the vibration energy acquired from an initially excited resonator can be transferred to the target one via an intermediate resonator,while flow in the reverse direction is prohibited due to energy localization in the intermediate resonator.The model holds application potentials in energy suppression and harvesting,and offers promising prospects for unidirectional wave and vibration control. 展开更多

Adiabatic shear band(ASB), as the precursor to catastrophic material failure, is of great significance in the research of impact resistance. This study investigated the adiabatic shear behavior of 12Cr1MoV steel under high-velocity impact from fragment-simulating projectile(FSP) using high-speed impact tests, numerical simulations, and scanning electron microscopy. The results demonstrated that the flat and wedge-shaped segments of the FSP experience different stress conditions and temperature fields during penetration. The asymmetry of the projectile has a pronounced effect on the morphology of the ASB. Two major failure modes were identified during the penetration process: tensile failure and shear failure, with pearlite exhibiting strengthening effects under both loading conditions. The ASB developed distinct microstructural characteristics with increasing impact velocity, exhibiting apparent sensitivity to temperatures and strain rates. Finally, the investigation of the ASB branches revealed the mechanisms underlying ASB formation and the initiation of catastrophic cracking. 展开更多

Adiabatic holonomic gates possess the geometric robustness of adiabatic geometric phases,i.e.,dependence only on the evolution path of the parameter space but not on the evolution details of the quantum system,which,when coordinated with decoherence-free subspaces,permits additional resilience to the collective dephasing environment.However,the previous scheme[Phys.Rev.Lett.95130501(2005)]of adiabatic holonomic quantum computation in decoherence-free subspaces requires four-body interaction that is challenging in practical implementation.In this work,we put forward a scheme to realize universal adiabatic holonomic quantum computation in decoherence-free subspaces using only realistically available two-body interaction,thereby avoiding the difficulty of implementing four-body interaction.Furthermore,an arbitrary one-qubit gate in our scheme can be realized by a single-shot implementation,which eliminates the need to combine multiple gates for realizing such a gate. 展开更多

The control of adiabatic dynamics is essential for quantum manipulation.We investigate the effects of both periodic modulating field and linear sweeping field on adiabatic dynamics based on a non-reciprocal Landau-Zener model with periodic modulation.We obtain adiabatic phase diagrams in the(ω,δ)parameter space,where the adiabatic region is bounded by the modulating frequencyωgreater than a critical valueω_(c) and the non-reciprocal parameterδless than one.The results show that the adiabaticity of the system is not sensitive to the modulating amplitude.We find that the critical modulating frequency can be expressed as a power function of the modulating period number or the sweeping rate.Our findings suggest that one can change the adiabatic region or improve the adiabaticity by adjusting the parameters of both the modulating and the sweeping fields,which provides an effective means to flexibly control the adiabatic dynamics of non-reciprocal systems. 展开更多

This article primarily establishes a two-soliton system and employs the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant inverse control method to achieve shortcuts to adiabaticity(STA)technology.We study an atomic soliton Josephson junctions(SJJs)device and subsequently compare and analyze it with atomic bosonic Josephson junctions.Moreover,we use higher-order expressions of the auxiliary equations to optimize the results and weaken the detrimental effect of the sloshing amplitude.We find that in the adiabatic shortcut evolution of two systems with time-containing tunnelling rates,the SJJs system is more robust over a rather short time evolution.In comparison with linear ramping,the STA technique is easier to achieve with the precise modulation of the quantum state in the SJJs system. 展开更多

The fractional shortcut to adiabaticity(f-STA)for the production of quantum superposition states is proposed firstly via a three-level system with aΛ-type linkage pattern and a four-level system with a tripod structure.The fast and robust production of the coherent superposition states is studied by comparing the populations for the f-STA and the fractional stimulated Raman adiabatic passage(f-STIRAP).The states with equal proportions can be produced by fixing the controllable parameters of the driving pulses at the final moment of the whole process.The effects of the pulse intensity and the time delay of the pulses on the production process are discussed by monitoring the populations on all of the quantum states.In particular,the spontaneous emission arising from the intermediate state is investigated by the quantum master equation.The result reveals that the f-STA exhibits superior advantages over the f-STIRAP in producing the superposition states. 展开更多

Separated specimens of Ti-6Al-4V alloy were dynamically loaded at a strain rate of 3 900 s-1 using a split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB) apparatus.The fracture features of the separated specimens were investigated by a scanning electron microscope.The results show that adiabatic shear failure occurs in the tested specimens,and two typical areas(dimple and smooth areas) with different features are alternatively distributed on the whole fracture surface.The dimple areas originate from voids generation and coalescence,exhibiting ductile fracture characteristics.Simultaneously,ultrafine grains(UFGs) and microcracks among grains are observed on the smooth areas,indicating that the emergence of UFG areas is caused by the propagation of microcracks along grain boundaries and exhibits brittle fracture characteristics.Fracture occurring in adiabatic shear bands is not uniform and ultimate rupture is resulted from ductile and brittle fracture modes. 展开更多

A new low power quasi adiabatic logic,complementary pass transistor adiabatic logic (CPAL),is presented.The CPAL circuit is driven by a new three phase power clock,and its non adiabatic loss on output loads can be effectively reduced by using complementary pass transistor logic and transmission gates.Furthermore,the minimization of the energy consumption can be obtained by choosing the optimal size of bootstrapped nMOS transistors,thus it has more efficient energy transfer and recovery.A three phase power supply generator with a small control logic circuit and a single inductor is proposed.An 8 bit adder based on CPAL is designed and verified.With MOSIS 0 25μm CMOS technology,the CPAL adder consumes only 35% of the dissipated energy of a 2N 2N2P adder and is about 50% of the dissipated energy of a PFAL adder for clock rates ranging from 50 to 200MHz. 展开更多

Several methods dealing with the moist adiabatic process are described in this paper. They are based on static energy conservation, pseudo-equivalent potential temperature conservation, the strict pseudo- adiabatic equation, and the reversible moist adiabatic process, respectively. Convective energy parame- ters, which are closely related to the moist adiabatic process and which re?ect the gravitational e?ects of condensed liquid water, are reintroduced or de?ned, including MCAPE [Modi?ed-CAPE (convective avail- able potential energy)], DCAPE (Downdraft-CAPE), and MDCAPE (Modi?ed-Downdraft-CAPE). Two real case analyses with special attention given to condensed liquid water show that the selection of moist adiabatic process does a?ect the calculated results of CAPE and the gravitational e?ects of condensed liq- uid water are not negligible in severe storms. Intercomparisons of these methods show that static energy conservation is consistent with pseudo-equivalent potential temperature conservation not only in physical properties but also in calculated results, and both are good approximations to the strict pseudo-adiabatic equation. The lapse rate linked with the reversible moist adiabatic process is relatively smaller than that linked with other moist adiabatic processes, especially when considering solidi?cation of liquid water in the reversible adiabatic process. 展开更多

Adiabatic shear sensitivity of ductile metal based on gradient-dependent JOHNSON-COOK model

Based on the expression proposed by WANG for the local plastic shear deformation distribution in the adiabatic shear band(ASB) using gradient-dependent plasticity,the effects of 10 parameters on the adiabatic shear sensitivity were studied.The experimental data for a flow line in the ASB obtained by LIAO and DUFFY were fitted by use of the curve-fitting least squares method and the proposed expression.The critical plastic shear strains corresponding to the onset of the ASB for Ti-6Al-4V were assessed at different assigned ASB widths.It is found that the proposed expression describes well the non-linear deformation characteristics of the flow line in the ASB.Some parameters in the JOHNSON-COOK model are back-calculated using different critical plastic shear strains.The adiabatic shear sensitivity decreases as initial static yield stress,work to heat conversion factor and strain-rate parameter decrease,which is opposite to the effects of density,heat capacity,ambient temperature and strain-hardening exponent.The present model can predict the ASB width evolution process.The predicted ASB width decreases with straining until a stable value is reached.The famous model proposed by DODD and BAI only can predict a final stable value. 展开更多

It obtains analytically the regions for the appearance of dynamical instability caused by the interparticle interactions. Moreover, the adiabatic property of the dark state is also studied in terms of a newly defined adiabatic fidelity. It shows that the nonlinear collisions have a negative effect on the adiabaticity of the dark state and hence reduce the conversion efficiency. 展开更多

But the relation between the short run time and success rate for adiabatic quantum algorithm is poorly understood. In this paper, we study the success rate of local adiabatic quantum search algorithm with an arbitrary finite run time(non-adiabatic evolution). By solving the time-independent Schr¨odinger equation, we obtain differential equations to calculate the success rate. The differential equations show that the success rate is closely related to the adiabatic parameter s(t). Utilize the differential equations, we give the function of success rate versus run time in local adiabatic search numerically. The result indirectly verifies that T ~ O(N^(1/2)) is optimal in local adiabatic search. 展开更多

Recently, Zhou et al. [Phys. Rev. A 79 (2009) 044304] proposed a scheme for transferring three-dimensional quantum states between remote atomic qubits confined in cavities connected by fibers through adiabatic passage. In order to avoid the decoherence due to spontaneous emission, Zhou et al. utilized the large detuning atom-field interaction. In the present paper, we discuss the influence of dissipation on the scheme in both the resonant atom-field interaction case and the large detuning case. We numerically analyze the success probability and the transferring fidelity. It is shown that the resonant case is a preferable choice for the technique of the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) due to the shorter operation time and the smaller probability of dissipation. 展开更多

Partial evolution based local adiabatic quantum search

Recently, Zhang and Lu provided a quantum search algorithm based on partial adiabatic evolution, which beats the time bound of local adiabatic search when the number of marked items in the unsorted database is larger than one. Later, they found that the above two adiabatic search algorithms had the same time complexity when there is only one marked item in the database. In the present paper, following the idea of Roland and Cerf [Roland J and Cerf N J 2002 Phys. Rev. A 65 042308], if within the small symmetric evolution interval defined by Zhang et al., a local adiabatic evolution is performed instead of the original "global" one, this "new" algorithm exhibits slightly better performance, although they are progressively equivalent with M increasing. In addition, the proof of the optimality for this partial evolution based local adiabatic search when M = 1 is also presented. Two other special cases of the adiabatic algorithm obtained by appropriately tuning the evolution interval of partial adiabatic evolution based quantum search, which are found to have the same phenomenon above, are also discussed. 展开更多
