Tolerance of Adult Guava Fruit Fly Bactrocera(Bactrocera) correcta(Bezzi)(Diptera: Tephritidae) to Low Temperature

Temperature plays a vital role in development, survival mad reproduction of Tephritidae species and other insects. Recent research demonstrates tempera- ture is a crucial factor influencing population fluctuation and geographical distribution of Bactrocera (Bactrocera) corre.cta (Bezzi). The adult stage of li. correcta, with apparent Aliapanse', was considered to be the most important life stage to overcome lower temperature. According to this biological feature, the survival rate of adult B. correcta which were exposed to low temporature (0, 3, 6, 9℃) for ditferont durations (1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120 h) was studied. The results showed that this fruit fly could not survive at 0 ℃ over 24 h. When exposed to 0 ℃ for 12 h, the survival rate was lower than 40%. The survival rate was higher than 60% when the adults were exposed to 3 ℃ for 24 h. More than 50% of adult B. correcta could survive for 48 h at 6 ℃. This fruit fly had a stronger tolerance at 9 ~C for 72 h, with the adult survival rate higher than 80%. The results are useful for prediction of occurrence and gcographiead distribution of B. correcta, which helps in developing better management strategies for this important insect pest. 展开更多
