Since around 1980,a new generation of wireless technology has arisen approximately every 10 years.First-generation(1G)and secondgeneration(2G)began with voice and eventually introduced more and more data in third-generation(3G)and became highly popular in the fourthgeneration(4G).To increase the data rate along with low latency and mass connectivity the fifth-generation(5G)networks are being installed from 2020.However,the 5G technology will not be able to fulfill the data demand at the end of this decade.Therefore,it is expected that 6G communication networks will rise,providing better services through the implementation of new enabling technologies and allowing users to connect everywhere.6G technology would not be confined to cellular communications networks,but would also comply with non-terrestrial communication system requirements,such as satellite communication.The ultimate objectives of this work are to address the major challenges of the evolution of cellular communication networks and to discourse the recent growth of the industry based on the key scopes of application and challenges.The main areas of research topics are summarized into(i)major 6G wireless networkmilestones;(ii)key performance indicators;(iii)future new applications;and(iv)potential fields of research,challenges,and open issues. 展开更多

We investigate the design of satellite network slicing for the first time to provide customized services for the diversified applications,and propose a novel scheme for satellite end-to-end(E2E) network slicing based on 5G technology,which provides a view of common satellite network slicing and supports flexible network deployment between the satellite and the ground.Specifically,considering the limited satellite network resource and the characteristics of the satellite channel,we propose a novel satellite E2E network slicing architecture.Therein,the deployment of the network functions between the satellite and the ground is coordinately considered.Subsequently,the classification and the isolation technologies of satellite network sub-slices are proposed adaptively based on 5G technology to support resource allocation on demand.Then,we develop the management technologies for the satellite E2E network slicing including slicing key performance indicator(KPI) design,slicing deployment,and slicing management.Finally,the analysis of the challenges and future work shows the potential research in the future. 展开更多

Road transport is been used for moving people and all kinds of goods throughout the world. However, it is one mode of transportation that is prone to accidents and it faces a plethora of never-ending challenges, such as the frequent loss of lives and valuables when accident occurs. The best course of action to handle these issues is to set up an autonomous incident detection system using wireless communication, 5G technologies and the Internet of Things. IoT is a seamless technology that increases the connectivity between humans and machines. It is web-based, and improves communication between vehicle to vehicle, vehicle to infrastructures, transfer of data and information to predict incident occurrences through various networks and frameworks such as eCall, OneM2M and integration of mobile broadband. Additionally, internet of things is being adopted for public safety;for instance, it can speed up first responders’ response times to situations by displaying the best routes to a scene of an accident. The rapid development of 5G is happening in parallel with developments of internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and smart platforms for novel applications such as mission-critical communications. 5G is a new generation technology that operates on the Ultra High Spectrum Band UHSB. It is an innovation that uses the pedestrians-vehicle-road-cloud, and the communication between vehicle locations and temperature of high-quality connection. It is essential for intelligent transport systems because it allows for information sharing, prediction of incidences as safety is the primary concern of road transport. This review examines accident detection through 5G technology, integrated mobile broadband, and multiple inputs multiple outputs (MIMO) wireless system. Recently,the combination of video services and 5G networks have been gaining attention in the wireless communication realm.With the brisk advancement in 5G network usage and the massive popularity of threedimensional video streaming,the quality of experience(QoE)of video in 5G systems has been receiving overwhelming significance from both customers and service provider ends.Therefore,effectively categorizing QoE-aware video streaming is imperative for achieving greater client satisfaction.This work makes the following contribution:First,a simulation platform based on NS-3 is introduced to analyze and improve the performance of video services.The simulation is formulated to offer real-time measurements,saving the expensive expenses associated with real-world equipment.Second,A valuable framework for QoE-aware video streaming categorization is introduced in 5G networks based on machine learning(ML)by incorporating the hyperparameter tuning(HPT)principle.It implements an enhanced hyperparameter tuning(EHPT)ensemble and decision tree(DT)classifier for video streaming categorization.The performance of the ML approach is assessed by considering precision,accuracy,recall,and computation time metrics for manifesting the superiority of these classifiers regarding video streaming categorization.This paper demonstrates that our ML classifiers achieve QoE prediction accuracy of 92.59%for(EHPT)ensemble and 87.037%for decision tree(DT)classifiers. 展开更多

Nowadays,the widespread application of 5G has promoted rapid development in different areas,particularly in the Internet of Things(IoT),where 5G provides the advantages of higher data transfer rate,lower latency,and widespread connections.Wireless sensor networks(WSNs),which comprise various sensors,are crucial components of IoT.The main functions of WSN include providing users with real-time monitoring information,deploying regional information collection,and synchronizing with the Internet.Security in WSNs is becoming increasingly essential because of the across-the-board nature of wireless technology in many fields.Recently,Yu et al.proposed a user authentication protocol forWSN.However,their design is vulnerable to sensor capture and temporary information disclosure attacks.Thus,in this study,an improved protocol called PSAP-WSNis proposed.The security of PSAP-WSN is demonstrated by employing the ROR model,BAN logic,and ProVerif tool for the analysis.The experimental evaluation shows that our design is more efficient and suitable forWSN environments. 展开更多

Harvesting energy from environmental sources such as solar and wind can mitigate or solve the limited-energy problem in wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we propose an energy-harvest-aware route-selection method that incorporates harvest availability properties and energy storage capacity limits into the routing decisions. The harvest-aware routing problem is formulated as a lin- ear program with a utility-based objective function that balances the two conflicting routing objectives of maximum total and maxi- mum minimum residual network energy. The simulation results show that doing so achieves a longer network lifetime, defined as the time-to-first-node-death in the network. Additionally, most existing energy-harvesting routing algorithms route each traffic flow independently from each other. The LP formulation allows for a joint optimization of multiple trafic flows. Better residual energy statistics are also achieved by such joint consideration compared to independent optimization of each commodity. 展开更多

The pursuit of the higher performance mobile communications forces the emergence of the fifth generation mobile communication(5G). 5G network, integrating wireless and wired domain, can be qualified for the complex virtual network work oriented to the cross-domain requirement. In this paper, we focus on the multi-domain virtual network embedding in a heterogeneous 5G network infrastructure, which facilitates the resource sharing for diverse-function demands from fixed/mobile end users. We proposed the mathematical ILP model for this problem.And based on the layered-substrate-resource auxiliary graph and an effective six-quadrant service-type-judgment method, 5G embedding demands can be classified accurately to match different user access densities. A collection of novel heuristic algorithms of virtual 5G network embedding are proposed. A great deal of numerical simulation results testified that our algorithm performed better in terms of average blocking rate, routing latency and wireless/wired resource utilization, compared with the benchmark. 展开更多

With rising capacity demand in mobile networks, the infrastructure is also becoming increasingly denser and complex. This results in collection of larger amount of raw data(big data) that is generated at different levels of network architecture and is typically underutilized. To unleash its full value, innovative machine learning algorithms need to be utilized in order to extract valuable insights which can be used for improving the overall network's performance. Additionally, a major challenge for network operators is to cope up with increasing number of complete(or partial) cell outages and to simultaneously reduce operational expenditure. This paper contributes towards the aforementioned problems by exploiting big data generated from the core network of 4 G LTE-A to detect network's anomalous behavior. We present a semi-supervised statistical-based anomaly detection technique to identify in time: first, unusually low user activity region depicting sleeping cell, which is a special case of cell outage; and second, unusually high user traffic area corresponding to a situation where special action such as additional resource allocation, fault avoidance solution etc. may be needed. Achieved results demonstrate that the proposed method can be used for timely and reliable anomaly detection in current and future cellular networks. 展开更多

The directional neighbor discovery problem,i.e,spatial rendezvous,is a fundamental problem in millimeter wave(mmWave)wireless networks,where directional transmissions are used to overcome the high attenuation.The challenge is how to let the transmitter and the receiver beams meet in space under deafness caused by directional transmission and reception,where no control channel,prior information,and coordination are available.In this paper,we present a Hunting based Directional Neighbor Discovery(HDND)scheme for ad hoc mmWave networks,where a node follows a unique sequence to determine its transmission or reception mode,and continuously r0-tates its directional beam to scan the neighborhood for other mmWave nodes.Through a rigorous analysis,we derive the conditions for ensured neighbor discovery,as well as a bound for the worst-case discovery time and the impact of sidelobes.We validate the analysis with extensive simulations and demonstrate the superior perfor-mance of the proposed scheme over several baseline schemes. 展开更多

In the power domain,non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA)supports multiple users on the same time-frequency resources,assigns different transmission powers to different users,and differentiates users by user channel gains.Multi-user signals are superimposed and transmitted in the power domain at the transmitting end by actively implementing controllable interference information,and multi-user detection algorithms,such as successive interference cancellation(SIC)is performed at the receiving end to demodulate the necessary user signals.In contrast to the orthogonal transmission method,the non-orthogonal method can achieve higher spectrum utilization.However,it will increase the receiver complexity.With the development of microelectronics technology,chip processing capabilities continue to increase,laying the foundation for the practical application of non-orthogonal transmission technology.In NOMA,different users are differentiated by different power levels.Therefore,the power allocation has a considerable impact on the NOMA system performance.To address this issue,the idea of splitting power into two portions,intra-subbands and intersubbands,is proposed in this study as a useful algorithm.Then,such optimization problems are solved using proportional fair scheduling and water-filling algorithms.Finally,the error propagation was modeled and analyzed for the residual interference.The proposed technique effectively increased the system throughput and performance under various operating settings according to simulation findings.A comparison is performed with existing algorithms for performance evaluation. 展开更多
