A numerical investigation on the effectiveness of the actuator disc method in producing the interactions of multiple tidal stream devices via the 3D-RANS finite element model Telemac3D is explored. The methodology for the implementation of the source term to represent an array of 20 m rotor diameter turbines deployed in an idealized channel is reviewed and discussed in detail. Flow interactions between multiple turbines are investigated for a single row arrangement with only two turbines and a two row arrangement containing three turbines. The results demonstrate that the non-hydrostatic solver shows better agreement when validated against published experimental data. Notably, the mesh density at the device location can strongly influence the simulated thrust from the disc. Although the actuator disc model can generally replicate the wake interactions well, the results indicate that it cannot accurately characterize the flow for regions with high turbulences. While a model setup with the largest lateral spacing(1.5D) demonstrates excellent agreement with the experimental data, the 0.5D model(smallest gap) deviates by up to 25%. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the applied source term in reproducing the wake profile, which is comparable with the published data, and highlight the inherent nature of the RANS and actuator disc models. 展开更多

Typically, seat or floor acceleration is used to evaluate the ride comfort of a high-speed train. However, the dynamic performance of the human body significantly differs from that of the floor. Therefore, using the car body floor and seat accelerations to calculate the ride comfort index of a high-speed train may not reflect the true feelings of passengers. In this study,a 3D human-seat-vehicle-track coupling model was established to investigate the ride comfort of highspeed train passengers. The seated human model, which considers the longitudinal, lateral, vertical, pitching, yawing, and rolling motions, comprises the head, upper torso, lower torso, pelvis, thighs, and shanks. The model parameters were determined using multi-axis excitation measurement data based on a genetic algorithm.Subsequently, the applicability of the small-angle assumption and natural modes of the human model is analyzed.Using the coupling system model, the vibration characteristics of the human-seat interaction surface were analyzed. The ride comfort of the high-speed train and human body dynamic performance were analyzed under normal conditions, track geometric irregularities and train meeting conditions. The results showed that the passenger seats in the front and rear rows adjacent to the window had a higher acceleration value than the others. The human backrest and seat pad connection points have higher vibration amplitudes than the car body floor in the human-sensitive frequency range, indicating that using the acceleration values on the floor may underestimate the discomfort of passengers. The ride comfort of high-speed trains diminishes in the presence of track geometric irregularities and when trains pass each other. When the excitation frequency of track geometry irregularities approached the natural frequency of the human-seat-vehicle system, ride comfort in high-speed trains decreased significantly. Moreover, using seat acceleration to evaluate passenger ride comfort overlooks the vibration characteristics of the human body. The transient aerodynamic force generated when the train meets can cause a larger car body roll and lateral motion at 2 Hz,which,in turn, decreases the passenger ride comfort. This study presents a detailed human-seat-vehicle-track coupling system that can reflect a passenger’s dynamic performance under complex operating conditions. 展开更多

Currently, there are a limited number of dynamic models available for braided composite plates with large overall motions, despite the incorporation of three-dimensional(3D)braided composites into rotating blade components. In this paper,a dynamic model of 3D 4-directional braided composite thin plates considering braiding directions is established.Based on Kirchhoff's plate assumptions, the displacement variables of the plate are expressed.By incorporating the braiding directions into the constitutive equation of the braided composites, the dynamic model of the plate considering braiding directions is obtained. The effects of the speeds, braiding directions, and braided angles on the responses of the plate with fixed-axis rotation and translational motion, respectively, are investigated. This paper presents a dynamic theory for calculating the deformation of 3D braided composite structures undergoing both translational and rotational motions. It also provides a simulation method for investigating the dynamic behavior of non-isotropic material plates in various applications. 展开更多

To speed up three-dimensional (3D) DC resistivity modeling, we present a new multigrid method, the aggregation-based algebraic multigrid method (AGMG). We first discretize the differential equation of the secondary potential field with mixed boundary conditions by using a seven-point finite-difference method to obtain a large sparse system of linear equations. Then, we introduce the theory behind the pairwise aggregation algorithms for AGMG and use the conjugate-gradient method with the V-cycle AGMG preconditioner (AGMG-CG) to solve the linear equations. We use typical geoelectrical models to test the proposed AGMG-CG method and compare the results with analytical solutions and the 3DDCXH algorithm for 3D DC modeling (3DDCXH). In addition, we apply the AGMG-CG method to different grid sizes and geoelectrical models and compare it to different iterative methods, such as ILU-BICGSTAB, ILU-GCR, and SSOR-CG. The AGMG-CG method yields nearly linearly decreasing errors, whereas the number of iterations increases slowly with increasing grid size. The AGMG-CG method is precise and converges fast, and thus can improve the computational efficiency in forward modeling of three-dimensional DC resistivity. 展开更多

Generally, FD coefficients can be obtained by using Taylor series expansion (TE) or optimization methods to minimize the dispersion error. However, the TE-based FD method only achieves high modeling precision over a limited range of wavenumbers, and produces large numerical dispersion beyond this range. The optimal FD scheme based on least squares (LS) can guarantee high precision over a larger range of wavenumbers and obtain the best optimization solution at small computational cost. We extend the LS-based optimal FD scheme from two-dimensional (2D) forward modeling to three-dimensional (3D) and develop a 3D acoustic optimal FD method with high efficiency, wide range of high accuracy and adaptability to parallel computing. Dispersion analysis and forward modeling demonstrate that the developed FD method suppresses numerical dispersion. Finally, we use the developed FD method to source wavefield extrapolation and receiver wavefield extrapolation in 3D RTM. To decrease the computation time and storage requirements, the 3D RTM is implemented by combining the efficient boundary storage with checkpointing strategies on GPU. 3D RTM imaging results suggest that the 3D optimal FD method has higher precision than conventional methods. 展开更多

Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray energy dispersive spectrum analysis show that the clusters of intermetallic AlFeSi particle are distributed on or near the aluminum foil stock surfaces heterogeneously. 3D finite element modeling shows that these clusters of hard particles induce the fracture of the nano-scale lubricant oil film at first and further lead to severe deformation in the nearby aluminum foil substrate along the rolling direction. Consequently, the optical property in this region differs from that in the surroundings, resulting in surface defects. 展开更多

Using a dynamic laser monitoring technique, the solubility of 3-nitro-1,2,4-triazole-5-one(NTO)was investigated in two different binary systems, namely hydroxylamine nitrate(HAN)-water and boric acid(HB)-water ranging from 278.15 K to 318.15 K.The solubility in each system was found to be positively correlated with temperature.Furthermore, solubility data were analyzed using four equations:the modified Apelblat equation,Van’t Hoff equation,λh equation and CNIBS/R-K equations, and they provided satisfactory results for both two systems. The average root-mean-square deviation(105RMSD)values for these models were less than 13.93.Calculations utilizing the Van’t Hoff equation and Gibbs equations facilitated the derivation of apparent thermodynamic properties of NTO dissolution in the two systems, including values for Gibbs free energy, enthalpy and entropy.The%ζ_(H)is larger than%ζ_(TS),and all the%ζ_(H)data are≥58.63%,indicating that the enthalpy make a greater contribution than entropy to theΔG_(soln)^(Θ). 展开更多

Background:Therapeutic responses of breast cancer vary among patients and lead to drug resistance and recurrence due to the heterogeneity.Current preclinical models, however, are inadequate for predicting individual patient responses towards different drugs. This study aimed to investigate the patient-derived breast cancer culture models for drug sensitivity evaluations. Methods:Tumor and adjacent tissues from female breast cancer patients were collected during surgery.Patient-derived breast cancer cells were cultured using the conditional reprogramming technique to establish 2D models. The obtained patient-derived conditional reprogramming breast cancer(CRBC)cells were subsequently embedded in alginate-gelatin methacryloyl hydrogel microspheres to form 3D culture models.Comparisons between 2D and 3D models were made using immunohistochemistry(tumor markers),MTS assays(cell viability),flow cytometry(apoptosis),transwell assays(migration),and Western blotting(protein expression).Drug sensitivity tests were conducted to evaluate patient-specific responses to anti-cancer agents.Results:2D and 3D culture models were successfully established using samples from eight patients. The 3D models retained histological and marker characteristics of the original tumors.Compared to 2D cultures,3D models exhibited increased apoptosis, enhanced drug resistance, elevated stem cell marker expression, and greater migration ability—features more reflective of in vivo tumor behavior.Conclusion:Patient-derived 3D CRBC models effectively mimic the in vivo tumor microenvironment and demonstrate stronger resistance to anti-cancer drugs than 2D models. These hydrogel-based models offer a cost-effective and clinically relevant platform for drug screening and personalized breast cancer treatment. 展开更多

This research pioneers the integration of geographic information systems(GIS)and 3D modeling within a virtual reality(VR)framework to assess the viability and planning of a 20 MW hybrid wind-solarphotovoltaic(PV)system connected to the local grid. The study focuses on Dakhla,Morocco,a region with vast untapped renewable energy potential.By leveraging GIS,we are innovatively analyzing geographical and environmental factors that influence optimal site selection and system design. The incorporation of VR technologies offers an unprecedented level of realism and immersion, allowing stakeholders to virtually experience the project's impact and design in a dynamic, interactive environment. This novel methodology includes extensive data collection, advanced modeling, and simulations, ensuring that the hybrid system is precisely tailored to the unique climatic and environmental conditions of Dakhla. Our analysis reveals that the region possesses a photovoltaic solar potential of approximately2400 k Wh/m^(2) per year, with an average annual wind power density of about 434 W/m^(2) at an 80-meter hub height.Productivity simulations indicate that the 20 MW hybrid system could generate approximately 60 GWh of energy per year and 1369 GWh over its 25-year lifespan. To validate these findings,we employed the System Advisor Model(SAM)software and the Global Solar Photovoltaic Atlas platform. This comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach not only provides a robust assessment of the system's feasibility but also offers valuable insights into its potential socio-economic and environmental impact. 展开更多

The research work has been seldom done about cloverleaf junction expression in a 3-dimensional city model (3DCM). The main reason is that the cloverleaf junction is often in a complex and enormous construction. Its main body is bestraddle in air,and has aerial intersections between its parts. This complex feature made cloverleaf junction quite different from buildings and terrain, therefore, it is difficult to express this kind of spatial objects in the same way as for buildings and terrain. In this paper, authors analyze spatial characteristics of cloverleaf junction, propose an all-constraint points TIN algorithm to partition cloverleaf junction road surface, and develop a method to visualize cloverleaf junction road surface using TIN. In order to manage cloverleaf junction data efficiently, the authors also analyzed the mechanism of 3DCM data management, extended BLOB type in relational database, and combined R-tree index to manage 3D spatial data. Integrated Sensing and Communication(ISAC)is considered a key technology in 6G networks. An accurate sensing channel model is crucial for the design and sensing performance evaluation of ISAC systems. The widely used Geometry-Based Stochastic Model(GBSM),typically applied in standardized channel modeling, mainly focuses on the statistical fading characteristics of the channel. However,it fails to capture the characteristics of targets in ISAC systems, such as their positions and velocities,as well as the impact of the targets on the background. To address this issue, this paper proposes an Extended-GBSM(E-GBSM)sensing channel model that incorporates newly discovered channel characteristics into a unified modeling framework. In this framework, the sensing channel is divided into target and background channels. For the target channel, the model introduces a concatenated modeling approach, while for the background channel,a parameter called the power control factor is introduced to assess impact of the target on the background channel, making the modeling framework applicable to both mono-static and bi-static sensing modes. To validate the proposed model’s effectiveness, measurements of target and background channels are conducted across a wide range of indoor and outdoor scenarios, covering various sensing targets such as metal plates, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, human bodies, unmanned aerial vehicles, and vehicles. The experimental results provide important theoretical support and empirical data for the standardization of ISAC channel modeling. 展开更多

Background:Traditional imaging approaches to keratoconus(KCN)have thus far failed to produce a standardized approach for diagnosis. While many diagnostic modalities and metrics exist, none have proven robust enough to be considered a gold standard. This study aims to introduce novel metrics to differentiate between KCN and healthy corneas using three-dimensional(3D)measurements of surface area and volume. Methods:This retrospective observational study examined KCN patients along with healthy control patients between the ages of 20 and 79 years old at the University of Maryland,Baltimore. The selected patients underwent a nine-line raster scan anterior segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT).ImageJ was used to determine the central 6 mm of each image and each corneal image was then divided into six 1 mm segments.Free-D software was then used to render the nine different images into a 3D model to calculate corneal surface area and volume.A two-tailed Mann-Whitney test was used to assess statistical significance when comparing these subsets.Results:Thirty-three eyes with KCN,along with 33 healthy control, were enrolled. There were statistically significant differences between the healthy and KCN groups in the metric of anterior corneal surface area(13.927 vs.13.991 mm^(2),P=0.046),posterior corneal surface area(14.045 vs.14.173 mm^(2),P<0.001),and volume(8.430 vs.7.773 mm3,P<0.001)within the central 6 mm.Conclusions:3D corneal models derived from AS-OCT can be used to measure anterior corneal surface area, posterior corneal surface area, and corneal volume. All three parameters are statistically different between corneas with KCN and healthy corneas.Further study and application of these parameters may yield new methodologies for the detection of KCN. 展开更多

Accurate vector extraction from design drawings is required first to automatically create 3D models from pixel-level engineering design drawings. However, this task faces the challenges of complicated design shapes as well as cumbersome and cluttered annotations on drawings, which interfere with the vector extraction heavily. In this article, the transmission tower containing the most complex structure is taken as the research object, and a semantic segmentation network is constructed to first segment the shape masks from the pixel-level drawings. Preprocessing and postprocessing are also proposed to ensure the stability and accuracy of the shape mask segmentation. Then, based on the obtained shape masks, a vector extraction network guided by heatmaps is designed to extract structural vectors by fusing the features from node heatmap and skeleton heatmap, respectively. Compared with the state-of-the-art methods, experiment results illustrate that the proposed semantic segmentation method can effectively eliminate the interference of many elements on drawings to segment the shape masks effectively, meanwhile, the model trained by the proposed vector extraction network can accurately extract the vectors such as nodes and line connections, avoiding redundant vector detection. The proposed method lays a solid foundation for automatic 3D model reconstruction and contributes to technological advancements in relevant fields. 展开更多

Research on scale effects on flows over weirs has been conducted on a limited basis, primarily focusing on flows upstream of a single-type weir, such as ogee, broad-crested, and sharp-crested (linear and non-linear) weirs. However, the scale effects downstream of these single-type weirs have not been thoroughly investigated. This study examined the scale effects on flows over a combined weir system consisting of an ogee weir and a sharp-crested weir, both upstream and downstream, utilizing physical modeling at a 1:33.33 scale based on Froude similarity and three-dimensional (3D) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling. The sharp-crested weir in this study was represented by two sluice gates that remain closed and submerged during flood events. The experimental data confirmed that the equivalent discharge coefficients of the combined weir system behaved similarly to those of a sharp-crested weir across various H/P (where H is the total head, and P is the weir height) values. However, scale effects on the discharge rating curve due to surface tension and viscosity could only be minimized when H/P > 0.4, Re > 26 959, and We > 240 (where Re and We are the Reynolds and Weber numbers, respectively), provided that the water depth exceeded 0.042 m above the crest. Additionally, Re greater than 4 × 104 was necessary to minimize scale effects caused by viscosity in flows in the spillway channel and stilling basin (with baffle blocks). The limiting criteria aligned closely with existing literature. This study offers valuable insights for practical applications in hydraulic engineering in the future. 展开更多

Constructing an in vitro vascularized liver tissue model that closely simulates the human liver is crucial for promoting cell proliferation, mimicking physiological heterogeneous structures, and recreating the cellular microenvironment. However, the layer-by-layer printing method is significantly constrained by the rheological properties of the bioink, making it challenging to form complex three-dimensional vascular structures in low-viscosity soft materials. To overcome this limitation,we developed a cross-linkable biphasic embedding medium by mixing low-viscosity biomaterials with gelatin microgel. This medium possesses yield stress and self-healing properties, facilitating efficient and continuous three-dimensional shaping of sacrificial ink within it.By adjusting the printing speed,we controlled the filament diameter, achieving a range from 250μm to 1000μm,and ensuring precise control over ink deposition locations and filament shapes.Using the in situ endothelialization method,we constructed complex vascular structures and ensured close adhesion between hepatocytes and endothelial cells. In vitro experiments demonstrated that the vascularized liver tissue model exhibited enhanced protein synthesis and metabolic function compared to mixed liver tissue. We also investigated the impact of varying vascular densities on liver tissue function.Transcriptome sequencing revealed that liver tissues with higher vascular density exhibited upregulated gene expression in metabolic and angiogenesis-related pathways. In summary, this method is adaptable to various materials, allowing the rheological properties of the supporting bath and the tissue's porosity to be modified using microgels, thus enabling precise regulation of the liver tissue microenvironment.Additionally,it facilitates the rapid construction of three-dimensional vascular structures within liver tissue. The resulting vascularized liver tissue model exhibits enhanced biological functionality, opening new opportunities for biomedical applications. 展开更多

On the basis of the study on road elements and th e existing three-dimensional road data models, this paper puts forward the transe ct-based road modeling, resolves the modeling of the simplest road with two roa d transects, and fulfils the visualization of the road.OpenGL is applied as the tool of visualization. The map texture technology,LOD algorithm and dynamic mu lti-differentiating texture technology are of benefit to the construction of 3D road GIS,and improve the speed of roaming and effective visualization. This pa per also disusses the combination of 2D digitall road map and 3D road scene, and the dynamic response between them. Finally,on the basis of the research on the transect-based road model, this paper develops the three-dimensional road geo graphic information system called virtual road(VRoad),which not only suppli es road designers with a set of tool which can turn the designed 2D road data in to 3D road and the high road assistant function area in computer, but also suppl ies the road management with a set of tool which can realize the road real time and interactive roaming,high-efficiency management. 展开更多
