πN Elastic Scattering and Resonances in Quark Potential Model

The quark potential model is used to investigate the low-energy elastic scattering of πN system. The model potential consists of the t-channel and s-channel one-gluon exchange potentials and the harmonic oscillator c... The quark potential model is used to investigate the low-energy elastic scattering of πN system. The model potential consists of the t-channel and s-channel one-gluon exchange potentials and the harmonic oscillator confining potential. By means of the resonating group method, a nonlocal effective potential for the πN system is derived from the interquark potentials and used to calculate the πN elastic scattering phase shifts. By considering the effect of QCD renormalization, the suppression of the spin-orbital coupling and the contribution of the color octet of the clusters (qq) and (qqq), the numerical results are in fairly good agreement with the experimental data. The same model and method are employed to investigate the possible πN resonances. For this purpose, the resonating group equation is transformed into a standard Schrodinger equation in which the nonlocal effective πN interaction potential is included. Solving the Schrodinger equation by the variational method, we are able to reproduce the masses of some currently concerned πN resonances. 展开更多

The study of collision between metastable positronium(Ps)and antihydrogen(H)is crucial for precision experiments involving H.In this paper,we investigate the elastic scattering between H and Ps(2s)by combining the confined variational method with the projection method,for scattering energies from 0.0245 eV to 0.068 eV.Our calculations provide accurate phase shifts and cross sections for the 1,3S and 1,3P symmetries.Near the binding threshold,the rapid increase in the total cross section may be attributed to the P-wave resonance effect.Additionally,we determined the S-wave scattering lengths to be 9.34 a_(0)and 5.81 a_(0)for singlet and triplet elastic scattering,respectively. 展开更多

The application of a controllable neutron source for measuring formation porosity in the advancement of nuclear logging has garnered increased attention.The existing porosity algorithm,which is based on the thermal neutron counting ratio,exhibits lower sensitivity in high-porosity regions.To enhance the sensitivity,the effects of elastic and inelastic scattering,which influence the slowing-down of fast neutrons,were theoretically analyzed,and a slowing-down model of fast neutrons was created.Based on this model,a density correction porosity algorithm was proposed based on the relationship between density,thermal neutron counting ratio,and porosity.Finally,the super multifunctional calculation program for nuclear design and safety evaluation(TopMC/SuperMC)was used to create a simulation model for porosity logging,and its applicability was examined.The results demonstrated that the relative error between the calculated and actual porosities was less than 1%,and the influence of deviation in the density measurement was less than 2%.Therefore,the proposed density correction algorithm based on the slowing-down model of fast neutrons can effectively improve the sensitivity in the high-porosity region.This study is expected to serve as a reference for the application of neutron porosity measurements with D–T neutron sources. 展开更多

Seismic attenuation has been inherent media characteristics in which an interesting topic of research, for it reflects the seismic waves propagate. There are many factors that cause seismic wave attenuation, such as geometry attenuation caused by energy dissipating during propagation, friction attenuation by relative sliding among rock grains, and scattering attenuation by rock heterogeneity. In this paper we study P-wave scattering attenuation in a random elastic medium by numerical simulations from a statistical point of view. A random elastic medium model is built based on general stochastic process theory. Then a staggered-grid pseudo-spectral method is used to simulate wave propagation. Scattering attenuation is estimated by the spectral ratio method based on virtual detector records. Random elastic media numerical scatter results with various heterogeneity levels show that the higher heterogeneous levels cause greater scattering attenuation. When the scatter sizes are smaller than a wave length, the larger scatters give a greater attenuation. Finally, we propose a method to evaluate fluid-flow attenuation in porous media. The fluid- flow attenuation is derived from total attenuation and scattering attenuation in random porous media and the attenuation is estimated quantitatively. Results show that in the real seismic frequency range when the heterogeneous scale is about 10^1 meters (less than one wave length), scattering attenuation is larger than fluid-tlow attenuation in random porous media and scattering attenuation is the main factor of seismic attenuation in real heterogeneous porous media. 展开更多

The reaction dynamics of exotic nuclei near the drip line is one of the main research topics of current interest.Elastic scattering is a useful probe for investigating the size and surface diffuseness of exotic nuclei.The development of rare isotope accelerators offers opportunities for such studies.To date,many relevant measurements have been performed at accelerators using the projectile fragmentation technique,while the measurements at accelerators using isotope separator on-line(ISOL)systems are still quite scarce.In this work,we present the first proof-of-principle experiment with a post-accelerated ISOL beam at the Beijing Radioactive Ion Beam Facility(BRIF)by measuring the angular distribution of elastic scattering for the stable nucleus^(23)Na from the doubly magic nucleus^(40)Ca at energies above the Coulomb barrier.The angular distribution measured by a silicon strip detector array in a scattering chamber using the ISOL beam at BRIF is in good agreement with that measured by the high-precision Q3 D magnetic spectrograph using the nonISOL beam at nearly the same energy.This work provides useful background for making BRIF a powerful tool for the investigation of the reaction dynamics of exotic nuclei. 展开更多

In this study, the Monte Carlo continuous energy code PSG2/Serpent was used to examine the difference between the constant cross-sectional model and the energy-dependent cross-sectional model during burnup. For the cases analyzed in this study,numerical simulations show that the multiplication coefficient was improved by hundreds pcm and ^(239)Pu concentration was improved by approximately 1–2% during burnup when the energy-dependent elastic scattering crosssectional model is considered. 展开更多

The elastic scattering properties for collisions between two ^7Li atoms are investigated in the cold and ultracold regimes separately. Based on recent theoretical and experimental results, we present the improved hybrid potentials for the singlet X^1 ∑g^+ and triplet a^3 ∑u^+ ground states of the Li2, Our calculated values for the scattering lengths α and the effective ranges re are compared with previous ones, and found them to be in good agreement. The scattering lengths are 34.6α0 for the singlet state and -27.6α0 for the triplet state. Shape resonances occur in the collisions at low energies. We also calculate the total cross sections and the energy positions of shape resonances for both X^1 ∑g^+ and a^3 ∑u^+ states. 展开更多

A new detector array characterized by compact structure and large solid-angle coverage was designed for radioactive ion beam(RIB)experiments and measuring multi-particle correlations.A Monte Carlo simulation was performed to explore the effects of beam drifts in different directions and distances on the angular distribution of the Rutherford scattering,as measured by the detector array.The results indicate that when the beam drift distance is less than 2.0 mm,the symmetry of the detector array can maintain a count error of less than 5%.This confirms the property of the detector array for RIB experiments.Furthermore,the simulation was validated through the elastic scattering angular distributions of 6;7 Li measured by the detector array in 6;7Li t209 Bi experiments at different energies. 展开更多

Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-N-vinylpyrrolidone) [P(NIPAM-co-NVP)] copolymers with different content of N-vinylpyrrolidone (NVP) were synthesized, and reversible aggregation kinetics of the copolymers in aqueous solutions was investigated with elastic light scattering (ELS) spectra. The results indicated that the apparent activation energy of aggregation process during heating and dissociation process during cooling increased with the NVP content increasing. The phase transition temperature also increased as the content of NVP increased, suggesting that the hydrophilic nature of NVP strongly affected the phase behavior of the copolymer solutions. The higher the content of NVP, the higher the temperature required to break the balance between the hydrophilic and hydrophobie interaction. Besides, during heating and cooling process, the phase transition hysteresis of P(NIPAM-co-NVP) chains decreased when the hydrophilic comonomer increased. 展开更多

The formalism for the band structure calculation is presented by taking into account the full vector character of the elastic wave. As a demonstration of application of the formalism we calculate the band structure of elastic wave propagating in a two-dimensional periodic arrangement of cylinders. The problem of elastic wave scattering from a partially debonded elastic cylindrical inclusion is investigated by using the wave function expansion method and singular integral equation technique. The debonding regions are modeled as interface cracks with non-contacting faces. The mixed boundary conditions of the problem lead to a set of simultanious dual series equations which, by introducing the dislocation density functions as unknowns, can be further converted to a set of singular integral equations of the second type. Solving these equations numerically, we obtain the dynamic stress intensity factor(DSIF), the scattered far-field pattern and the scattering cross section(SCS). The numerical results for an inclusion with one debond are presented to show the distinguishing feature of the problem-the low frequency resonances in both DSIF and SCS. Finally, as a special example, we discuss the scattering of elastic waves by a circular arc-shaped crack in a homogeneous medium. The presented method is valid when stresses have oscillatory behavior. 展开更多

In view of the problem that the shear stress is automatically satisfied under the free boundary condition, the generalized stress of the first-order vanishing moment of shear stress is considered. The numerical results indicate that, as the cutout is thick, the maximum value of the dynamic stress factor obtained using the refined dynamic theory is 19% higher than that from the solution of plane stress problems of elastic dynamics. 展开更多

In this paper,a new M3Y-type effective nucleon–nucleon interaction,derived based on the lowest order constrained variational approach(LOCV)and termed B3Y-Fetal,has been used in DDM3Y1,BDM3Y1,BDM3Y2,and BDM3Y3 density-dependent versions in a heavy ion(HI)optical potential based on four types of a real folded potential and a phenomenological Woods–Saxon imaginary potential to study the elastic scattering of the^(16)O+^(16)O nuclear system within the framework of the optical model(OM)by computing the associated differential cross sections at various incident energies.The results of the folding analyses have shown the DDB3Y1-Fetal and BDB3Y1-Fetal,out of the four folded potentials,give a reasonably better description of the elastic data of the nuclear system.These best-fit folded potentials are followed,in performance,by the BDB3Y2-Fetal,with the BDB3Y3-Fetal potential coming last.This performance trend was also demonstrated by the optical potentials based on the M3Y-Reid interaction.Furthermore,the best-fit folded potentials,renormalized by a factor NRof approximately 0.9,have been shown to reproduce the energy dependence of the real optical potential for^(16)O scattering found in previous optical model analyses creditably well.In excellent agreement with previous works,they have also been identified in this work to belong to the family of deep refractive potentials because they have been able to reproduce and consistently describe the evolution of Airylike structures,at large scattering angles,observed in the^(16)O scattering data at different energies.Finally,a comparison of the performances of B3Y-Fetal and M3Y-Reid effective interactions undertaken in this work has shown impressive agreement between them. 展开更多

This article presents an analysis of the scattering of anti-plane shear waves from a single cylindrical inhomogeneity partially bonded to an unbounded magneto-electro-elastic matrix. The magneto-electric permeable boundary conditions are adopted. The crack opening displacement is represented by Chebyshev polynomials and a system of equations is derived and solved for the unknown coefficients. Some examples are calculated and the results are illustrated. The results show that the COD increases when the piezomagnetic coefficient of the inhomogeneity bonded to the piezoelectric matrix becomes larger, and that the COD decreases when the piezomagnetic coefficient of the matrix with the piezoelectric inhomogeneity increases. 展开更多

Two problems of scattering of surface water waves involving a semi-infinite elastic plate and a pair of semi-infinite elastic plates,separated by a gap of finite width,floating horizontally on water of finite depth,are investigated in the present work for a two-dimensional time-harmonic case.Within the frame of linear water wave theory,the solutions of the two boundary value problems under consideration have been represented in the forms of eigenfunction expansions.Approximate values of the reflection and transmission coefficients are obtained by solving an over-determined system of linear algebraic equations in each problem.In both the problems,the method of least squares as well as the singular value decomposition have been employed and tables of numerical values of the reflection and transmission coefficients are presented for specific choices of the parameters for modelling the elastic plates.Our main aim is to check the energy balance relation in each problem which plays a very important role in the present approach of solutions of mixed boundary value problems involving Laplace equations.The main advantage of the present approach of solutions is that the results for the values of reflection and transmission coefficients obtained by using both the methods are found to satisfy the energy-balance relations associated with the respective scattering problems under consideration.The absolute values of the reflection and transmission coefficients are presented graphically against different values of the wave numbers. 展开更多

The dynamic behaviors of water contained in calcium-silicate-hydrate(C-S-H) gel with different water content values from 10%to 30%(by weight),are studied by using an empirical diffusion model(EDM) to analyze the experimental data of quasi-elastic neutron scattering(QENS) spectra at measured temperatures ranging from 230 K to 280 K.In the study,the experimental QENS spectra with the whole Q-range are considered.Several important parameters including the bound/immobile water elastic coefficient A,the bound water index BWI,the Lorentzian with a half-width at half-maximum(HWHM) Γ;(Q) and Γ;(Q),the self-diffusion coefficients D;and D;of water molecules,the average residence times τ;and τ;,and the proton mean squared displacement(MSD)(u;) are obtained.The results show that the QENS spectra can be fitted very well not only for small Q(≤1 A;) but also for large Q.The bound/immobile water fraction in a C-S-H gel sample can be shown by the fitted BWI.The distinction between bound/immobile and mobile water,which includes confined water and ultra-confined water,can be seen by the fitted MSD.All the MSD tend to be the smallest value below 0.25 A;(the MSD of bound/immobile water) as the Q increases to 1.9 A;no matter what the temperature and water content are.Furthermore,by the abrupt changes of the fitted values of D;,τ;,and Γ;(Q),a crossover temperature at 250 K,namely the liquid-to-crystal-like transition temperature,can be identified for confined water in large gel pores(LGPs) and/or small gel pores(SGPs) contained in the C-S-H gel sample with 30% water content. 展开更多
