Traditionally, designers obtain the technical parameters for crimping from experience or by trial and error through experiments and the finite element(FE) method. However, it is difficult to achieve ideal crimping quality by these approaches. To resolve this issue, crimping parameter design was investigated by multi-objective optimization. Crimping was simulated using the FE code ABAQUS and the FE model was validated experimentally. A welding pipe made of X80 high-strength pipeline steel was considered as a target object and the optimization problem for its crimping was formulated as a mathematical model and crimping was optimized. A response surface method based on the radial basis function was used to construct a surrogate model; the genetic algorithm NSGA-II was adopted to search for Pareto solutions; grey relational analysis was used to determine the most satisfactory solution from the Pareto solutions. The obtained optimal design of parameters shows good agreement with the initial design and remarkably improves the crimping quality. Thus, the results provide an effective approach for improving crimping quality and reducing design times.展开更多

China' s initiatives to construct long-distance natural gas pipelines has brought in new opportunities for the development of X80 line pipes. Baosteel has designed the optimum chemical composition of X80 with high niobium and low molybdenum content. In addition, a welding experimental platform and a finite element model (FEM) have supported the development of X80 UOE pipes in an efficient and economical way. The application and recent development of X80 UOE pipes were introduced in this paper. To comply with the requirements of the Second West-East Gas Pipeline Project (2^nd WEPP ), X80 pipeline steel with low carbon bainite microstructure was developed by utilizing the optimized composition and TMCP process. The matching welding material, welding procedure and UOE forming processes for 1 219mm outside diameter X80 UOE pipes were also developed. More than 340 000 t of X80 UOE pipes were produced and applied in the 2^nd WEPP. Furthermore, to meet the prospective demand for long-distance gas pipelines with an annual transportation capacity of over 40 billion m3 ,larger size X80 UOE pipes with 1 422 mm OD × 30. 8 mm WT were trial produced recently. DWTT performance, the main technical challenge for heavier wall pipes, was improved by using optimized microstructural design. The newly developed X80 pipes can be potentially used for larger transportation capacity pipelines in China.展开更多

The wave propagations in the outer and inner soil dynamic response of a large diameter pipe pile in viscoelastic are simulated by three-dimensional elastodynamic theory and those in the pile are simulated by Rayleigh-Love rod theory. The vertical and radial displacements of the outer and inner soil are obtained by utilizing Laplace transform technique and differentiation on the governing equations of soils. Then, based on the continuous conditions between the pile and soils, the displacements of the pile are derived. The frequency domain velocity admittance and time domain velocity response of the pile top are also presented. The solution is compared to a classical rod model solution to verify the validity. The influences of the radii and Poisson ratio of pile on the transverse inertia effect of pile are analyzed. The parametric study shows that Poisson ratio and outer radius of pile have significant influence on the transverse inertia effect of large diameter pipe piles, while the inner radius has little effect.展开更多

Based on a hydraulic analysis and a simulation of water distribution networks, a macroscopic model for a network under a local pipe failure was established by the statistical regression. After the operation objectives under a local pipe failure were determined, the optimal operation model was developed and solved by the genetic algorithm. The program was developed and examined by a city distribution network. The optimal operation alternative shows that the electricity cost is saved approximately 11%, the income of the water corporation is increased approximately 5%, and the pressure in the water distribution network is distributed evenly to ensure the network safe operation. Therefore, the proposed method for optimal operation under local pipe failure is feasible and cost-effective.展开更多

However, erosion and corrosion due to long-term use may cause serious accidents, such as steam leaks, resulting in economic loss and environmental pollution. Therefore, inspection of the entire length and thickness before shipping or monitoring during operation are important technologies. However, no inspection technology including the inside of the wall thickness has been developed. The purpose was to develop an ultrasonic probe that can inspect the inner and outer surfaces from the inside of the pipe at the same time. The developed ultrasonic probe is based on an electromagnetic ultrasonic transducer (EMAT) that does not require a couplant and is then easy to install in a pipe. The EMAT for the longitudinal and for the transverse vibration mode guided wave are connected in series in order to take into account the variety of defects. First, the EMAT was successfully developed for each mode. That is, it was conducted by using the magnetostrictive effect for the longitudinal mode type and by using the Lorentz force for the transverse mode type, and evaluated to improve the performance. The reflected signal from a notch defect was then evaluated in the state that each EMAT was connected in series using any artificial defects and found to be able to detect any notches with about 10% depth or about 15% circumferential length.展开更多

Compared to plate steel, pipes have harder physical properties and tend to be harder and showed greater permeability with decreasing inner diameter. We found that the maximum corrosion current density in the secondary active state, which is the starting point of secondary passivation, appeared in the polarization curve measurement in tap water. Similar to the Vickers hardness and the maximum current density in the secondary active state, the permeability tended to increase as the diameter decreased. This is thought to increase the amount of deformation-induced martensitic and increase corrosion susceptibility. The peak of the secondary active current density was clearly seen as the potential sweep speed was increased. In addition, potential sweep speed dependence was observed in the corrosion susceptibility evaluation of deformation-induced martensite. In comparison with acid treatment, the formation of deformation-induced martensite was considered to occur in the extreme surface layer. The maximum corrosion current density in the secondary active state is expected to be a new susceptibility evaluation method for evaluating the deformation-induced martensitic transformation.展开更多

A new computational method is proposed, based on the projection operators which project the governing equations onto the sub- space spanned by the radial vorticity and radial velocity. The method is validated by comparing with the previous studies. Two peaks of the maximum transient growth am- plification curve are found at different Reynolds numbers ranging from 20 000 to 250 000. The optimal flow structures are obtained and compared with the experiments and DNS results. The location of the outer peak is at the azimuthal wave number n = 1, while the location of the inner peak is varying with the Reynolds number. It is observed that the velocity streaks in the buffer layer with a spacing of 100δv are the most amplified flow structures. Finally, we consider the optimal transient growth time and its dependence on the azimuthal wave length. It shows a self-similar behavior for perturbations of different scales in the optimal transient growth process.展开更多

With the given velocity function at the valve and the introduction of curve integration independent of integral path, the exact analytic solution of dimensionless water hammer pressure was obtained in the course of valve closing. Based on the definition of eigen wave height, optimal eigen wave height and observation time, the control goal of water hammer pressure and the judgment rule of the optimal eigen wave height were determined, then the optimal velocity function in the calculated example was derived, which can reduce the water hammer pressure maximally. According to this function, a valve closing program was set, and the optimal control of water hammer could be realized.展开更多

This scarcity emanated from indiscriminate pipe failure, lack of adequate maintenance, uncertainty on the time of repair or replacement of pipes etc. There is no systematic approach to determining replacement or repair time of the pipes. Hence, the rule of thumb is used in making such a vital decision. The population is increasing, houses are built but the network is not expanded and the existing ones that were installed for no less than two to three decades ago are not maintained. These compounded the problem of scarcity of water in the state. Replacement or repair of water pipes when they are seen spilling water cannot solve this lingering problem. The solution can be achieved by developing an adequate predictive model for water pipe replacement. Hence, this research is aimed at providing a solution to this problem of water scarcity by suggesting a policy that will be used for better planning. The interests in this paper were to obtain a water pipe failure model, the intensity function λ(t) [failure rate], the reliability R(t) and the optimal time of replacement and they were achieved. It was observed that the failure rate of the pipes increases with time while their reliability deteriorates with time. Hence, the Optimal replacement policy is that each pipe should be replaced after 4th break when the reliability = 0.0011.展开更多

The maximum corrosion current density in the secondary active state is expected to be a new susceptibility evaluation method for evaluating the deformation-induced martensitic transformation.

文摘The optimal transient growth process of perturbations driven by the pressure gradient is studied in a turbulent pipe flow. It shows a self-similar behavior for perturbations of different scales in the optimal transient growth process.

文摘To realize the accurate control of water hammer in pipes by valve stroking, based on basic differential equations of water hammer subjected to initial and boundary conditions, the traveling solution of wave equations in finite region was applied to the linear water hammer problem. According to this function, a valve closing program was set, and the optimal control of water hammer could be realized.
文摘Water scarcity is the major problem confronting both urban and rural dwellers in Enugu State. Hence, the Optimal replacement policy is that each pipe should be replaced after 4th break when the reliability = 0.0011.

文摘With a water-supply network by dynamic programming. The minimal as an example, the network was optimized annual discounted costs were taken as an objective function and node pressure etc. as constraint conditions. The alternative pipe diameters were optimized as per enumeration method and the group allowing objective function with the least values would be the optimized one. It is proved the optimized pipe network reduced by 11.49% in terms of cost and the optimized ben- efits proved much significant.
文摘A hot primary-air pipe system is the bridge connecting an air-preheater with a coal mill in power generation stations. The effective geometrical configuration of the pipe network greatly affects the air flow distribution and consequently influences the safe and economic operation of milling systems in power stations. In order to improve the properties of the air flow,in the present work the SIMPLEC method is used to simulate numerically the flow field for the original layout of the system. As a result, the internal mechanisms influencing the uneven pressure drop in each branch are explored and three optimization schemes are proposed accordingly. The numerical results indicate that, for the original layout, the local pressure drop of the tee section accounts for approximately 74%of the total drop of the system, with other pressure drops depending on the specific branch considered. It is shown that after optimization,a roughly balanced flow resistance and flow rate can be obtained.Compared with the original layout, the pressure drop relating to different branches is significantly reduced.
