The integration with advanced communication networks and computing techniques allows for the enhancement of efficiency of industrial control systems. Despite all the advantages that NCSs bring to industry, they remain at risk to a spectrum of physical and cyber-attacks. In this paper, we elaborate on security vulnerabilities of NCSs, and examine how these vulnerabilities may be exploited when attacks occur. A general model of NCS designed with three different controllers, i.e., proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers, Model Predictive control (MPC) and Emotional Learning Controller (ELC) are studied. Then three different types of attacks are applied to evaluate the system performance. For the case study, a networked pacemaker system using the Zeeman nonlinear heart model (ZHM) as the plant combined with the above-mentioned controllers to test the system performance when under attacks. The results show that with Emotional Learning Controller (ELC), the pacemaker is able to track the ECG signal with high fidelity even under different attack scenarios.展开更多

This paper has proposed a data-based design approach for the networked tracking control system(NTCS). The method utilizes the input-output data of the controlled process to establish a predictive model with the help of fuzzy cluster modelling(FCM)technology. Then, the deduced error and error change in the future are treated as inputs of a fuzzy sliding mode controller(FSMC) to obtain a string of future control actions. These candidate control actions in the controller side are delivered to the plant side. Thus, the network induced time delays are compensated by selecting appropriate control action. Simulation outputs prove the validity of the proposed method.展开更多

Recently, there are two chilled water plants in the university installed strategically to provide chilled water to all the academic and administrative buildings of the university through distribution network with total capacity approximately of 12,000 tons of refrigeration. The plants were built based on cooling towers with open water cycle as heat rejection system. Water treatment chemicals has been used to protect the cooling systems from corrosion, scaling and microbiological fouling accompanied with dissolved and suspended water impurities. Different methods are being used to determine and control the treatment chemical concentrations and system performance indicators. Traditional chemical controller has drawback of indirect measurements and set points. The purpose of this paper is to present a solution to overcome the problems of traditional and conventional chemical treatment and control sys-tems. Central cooling plant number (1) assigned to perform experimental setup using new chemical treatment technology. Advanced automatic chemical treatment controller installed on condensers (1, 2 and 3), and certain key performance indicators were selected and monitored such as chemical and water consumption, power, energy saving, and maintaining system integrity and efficiency. Satisfactory results were obtained in terms of performance and cost of operation.展开更多

By using input-delay and parallel distributed compensation(PDC) techniques, we establish the Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy model for the system, in which the sampling period of the sampler and signal transmission delay are transformed to the refreshing interval of a zero-order holder(ZOH). By the appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii-based methods, a delay-dependent criterion is derived to ensure the asymptotic stability for the system with IQC performance via the H∞ state feedback control. The efficiency of the method is illustrated on a simulation exampler.展开更多

The first step towards this goal is to accommodate, under practical constraints, various design objectives that are desirable in both time and frequency domains. Such performance-prioritised unification is aimed at relieving practising engineers from having to select a particular control scheme and from sacrificing certain performance goals resulting from pre-commitment to such schemes. With recent progress in evolutionary computing based extra-numeric, multi-criterion search and optimisation techniques, such unification of LTI control schemes becomes feasible, analytical and practical, and the resultant designs can be creative. The techniques developed are applied to, and illustrated by, three design problems. The unified approach automatically provides an integrator for zero-steady state error in velocity control of a DC motor, and meets multiple objectives in the design of an LTI controller for a non-minimum phase plant and offers a high-performance LTI controller network for a non-linear chemical process.展开更多

To deal with sand-production problems systematically, a sand-production control system (SCS) is first proposed in this paper, specialized for pore-distributed clayey silt hydrate reservoirs. Secondly, a nodal system analysis method (NSAM) is applied to analyze the sand migration process during hydrate exploitation. The SCS is divided into three sub-systems, according to different sand migration mechanisms, and three key scientific problems and advances in SCS research in China Geological Survey are reviewed and analyzed. The maximum formation sanding rate, proper sand-control gravel size, and borehole blockage risk position were provided for clayey hydrate exploitation wells based on the SCS analysis. Therefore, contradictory mitigation measures between sand production and operational systems should be considered preferentially. The ISERA framework integrates security by design principles, micro-segmentation, and Island Mode Operation (IMO) to enhance cyber resilience and ensure continuous, secure operations. The methodology deploys a Forward-Thinking Architecture Strategy (FTAS) algorithm, which utilises an industrial Intrusion Detection System (IDS) implemented with Python’s Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) library. The FTAS algorithm successfully identified and responded to cyber-attacks, ensuring minimal system disruption. ISERA has been validated through comprehensive testing scenarios simulating Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and malware intrusions, at both the IT and OT layers where it successfully mitigates the impact of malicious activity. Results demonstrate ISERA’s efficacy in real-time threat detection, containment, and incident response, thus ensuring the integrity and reliability of critical infrastructure systems. ISERA’s decentralised approach contributes to global net zero goals by optimising resource use and minimising environmental impact. By adopting a decentralised control architecture and leveraging virtualisation, ISERA significantly enhances the cyber resilience and sustainability of critical infrastructure systems. This approach not only strengthens defences against evolving cyber threats but also optimises resource allocation, reducing the system’s carbon footprint. As a result, ISERA ensures the uninterrupted operation of essential services while contributing to broader net zero goals.展开更多

文摘China is facing a rapidly aging population, significantly impacting public health and healthcare systems.According to the"National Report on the Development of Undertakings for the Aged(2022),"there are 280 million people aged 60 years and above in China, accounting for 19.8%of the total population(Fig.1A)[1].This percentage has steadily increased from 14.3%in 2012.Projections indicate that by 2050,the elderly population in China will peak at approximately 487 million, representing 34.9%of the total population[2].In this perspective article,we analyze the current challenges facing China's dementia prevention and control system, with the aim of presenting policy recommendations to effectively address these issues.
文摘This paper presents a concept of platoon movement of autonomous vehicles(smart cars).Autonomous vehicles have ACC(adaptive or advanced cruise control)system also called ICC(intelligent cruise control)or AICC(adaptive intelligent cruise control)system. These vehicles are suitable to follow other vehicles on desired distance and to be organized in platoons. To be able to do research to the control and stability of an AGV(automated guided vehicles)string,a car-following model is being determined. To do this, first a single vehicle is modelled and since all cars in the platoon have the same dynamics, the single vehicle model is copied ten times to form model of platoon(string)with ten vehicles. To control this string, equal PID(proportional-integral-derivative)controllers are applied to all vehicles, except the leading vehicle. These controllers try to keep the headway distance as constant as possible and the velocity between subsequent vehicles error small. For control of vehicle with nonlinear dynamics combination of feedforward control and feedback control approach is used.Feedforward control is based on inverse model of nominal dynamics of the vehicle, and feedback PID control is designed on base of linearized model of the vehicle. For simulation and analysis of vehicle and platoon of vehicles Matlab/Simulink models are designed.Simulation results, discussions and conclusions are given at the end of the paper.
