Typhoon Chaba was the most intense typhoon to strike western Guangdong since Typhoon Mujigae in 2015.According to the National Disaster Reduction Center of China,in the morning of July 7,2022,over 1.5 million people i...Typhoon Chaba was the most intense typhoon to strike western Guangdong since Typhoon Mujigae in 2015.According to the National Disaster Reduction Center of China,in the morning of July 7,2022,over 1.5 million people in Guangdong,Guangxi,and Hainan were affected by Typhoon Chaba.The typhoon also caused the“Fukui 001”ship to be in distress in the waters near Yangjiang,Guangdong,on July 2,resulting in big casualties.Studies have indicated that wind field forecast for Typhoon Chaba was not accurate.To better simulate typhoon events and assess their impacts,we proposed the use of a model wind field(Fujita-Takahashi)integrated with the Copernicus Marine and Environmental Monitoring Service(CMEMS)data to reconstruct effectively the overall wind field of Typhoon Chaba.The simulation result aligns well with the observations,particularly at the Dashu Island Station,showing consistent trends in wind speed changes.However,certain limitations were noted.The model shows that the attenuation of wind speed is slower when typhoon neared land than that observed,indicating that the model has a high simulation accuracy for the ocean wind field,but may have deviations near coastal areas.The result is accurate for open sea but deviated for near land due to the land friction effect.Therefore,we recommend to adjust the model to improve the accuracy for near coasts.展开更多

As mine excavation deepens,ventilation systems often face the challenge of insufficient airflow,while the complex environment poses significant obstacles to powering monitoring and alarm sensors.Here,an integrated and...As mine excavation deepens,ventilation systems often face the challenge of insufficient airflow,while the complex environment poses significant obstacles to powering monitoring and alarm sensors.Here,an integrated and efficient self-powered mine wind speed monitoring and alarm system(SLW-MAS)is proposed based on triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG).The SLW-MAS,featuring a centrifugal structure design,facilitates hierarchical control of the TENG module,thereby enabling differential responses to wind speeds.When the wind speed is lower than 1.5 m/s,the TENG module is maintained in a horizontal working state under the action of the centrifugal mechanism and produces a high voltage output;the switch circuit is selected through experiments,which makes it meet the alarm delay of 2 s and avoids the problem of inaccurate alarm caused by unstable airflow.This work provides the feasibility for the construction of an underground distributed Internet of Things monitoring and alarm system.展开更多
The first"modern"type of vehicular bridge was built in Hong Kong China in the 1920s.The need for an efficient transportation system to cope with population growth and enable economic development has demanded...The first"modern"type of vehicular bridge was built in Hong Kong China in the 1920s.The need for an efficient transportation system to cope with population growth and enable economic development has demanded the construction of more and more bridges since the middle of the 20th century.By 2007,Hong Kong had a total of about 1300 vehicular bridges.Four of these bridges,including the Tsing Ma Bridge,Kap Shui Mun Bridge,Ting Kau Bridge,and the cable-stayed bridge on the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Corridor,are considered to be major bridges supported by cables.Currently,the Stonecutters Bridge on Route No.8 is under construction and is expected to be completed in late 2009.At the same time,the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will be in its detailed design stage soon.While efforts have been made by bridge builders to construct these giant structures,the upkeeping of these valuable assets at a high standard and ensuring their continuous functioning and performance during their intended lifespans will be another important task for bridge engineers.Wind and structural health monitoring system(WASHMS)will play a key role in this respect.展开更多
