Most of the work carried out thus far is based on the principle of directly mapping the thermal error against the temperature of critical machine elements irrespective of the operating conditions. But recent researches show that different sets of operating parameters generated significantly different error values even though the temperature of the machine elements generated was similar. As such, it is important to develop a generic thermal error model which is capable of evaluating the positioning error induced by different operating parameters. This paper ultimately aims at the development of a comprehensive prediction model that can predict the thermal characteristics under different operating conditions (feeding speed, load and preload of ballscrew) in a feed system. A novel wavelet neural network based on feedback linearization autoregressive moving averaging (NARMA-L2) model is introduced to predict the temperature rise of sensitive points and thermal positioning errors considering the different operating conditions as the model inputs. Particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm is brought in as the training method. According to ISO230-2 Positioning Accuracy Measurement and ISO230-3 Thermal Effect Evaluation standards, experiments under different operating conditions were carried out on a self-made quasi high-speed feed system experimental bench HUST-FS-001 by using Pt100 as temperature sensor, and the positioning errors were measured by Heidenhain linear grating scale. The experiment results show that the recommended method can be used to predict temperature rise of sensitive points and thermal positioning errors with good accuracy. The work described in this paper lays a solid foundation of thermal error prediction and compensation in a feed system based on varying operating conditions and machine tool characteristics.展开更多

Experimental results indicated that the burst feeding appeared repeatedly during solidification and left a shrinkage cavity with layered structure under mechanical vibration. The castings with less shrinkage and higher density could be achieved through the vibration. The calculation results of physical model showed that the burst feeding could perform spontaneously under vibration while difficultly without vibration in low-pressure die casting. The obstruction of a casting could be broken and the grains could be rearranged by the vibration. And the obstruction could be carried away due to the inner and outer pressure difference, causing a burst feeding.展开更多

A mathematical model for computing the load was presented. An optimization problem was formulated to determine the attitude of the flexible guidance based on the principle that the potential energy stored in the system was the minimum at the equilibrium. Then the friction force was obtained according to the attitude of guide leaves and the moving velocity of the feed belt and the friction factor. Consequently, the load of the automatic feed mechanism can be calculated. Finally, an example was given to compute the load when the horizontal and elevating firing angles of the automation were respectively 45° and 30°. In recent years, the DLseries computer numerical control(CNC) heavy-duty horizontal lathes(HDHLs) have been widely used in the transportation, energy and aviation industries. High availability of the CNC heavy-duty lathes is demanded to guarantee the efficiency and benefit of these manufacturing industries. As one of the key subsystems of the HDHLs, the feeding control system is studied in this paper on reliability modeling and reliability analysis. The fault tree analysis(FTA) method is used for reliability modelling of the feeding control system. Considering the multiple common cause failure groups(CCFGs) existing in the system, a modified beta factor parametric model is introduced to model the common cause failure(CCF) in system. The reliability of feeding control system is then obtained and the effect of CCF on the reliability of the whole system is studied as well.展开更多

Behavioral differences between sexes in ungulates may encourage segregation as individuals attempt to avoid antagonistic interactions. However, dominant sex and age groups may reduce subordinates' access to food resources, regardless of the subordinate's sex. We hypothesized that white-tailed deer Odocoileus Virginian us temporally segregated at supplemental feedi ng sites based on social rank (subordinate: yearling males and adult females;dominant: adult males) and that segregation was affected by phase of the breeding season and diel cycle. If deer temporally segregate according to social rank, we predicted that the resulting activity patterns would manifest in one social class being relatively more susceptible to hunter-induced mortality. We used a multistate modeling approach to quantify temporal segregation and calculated the probability that a feeding site was in a particular state during diurnal and nocturnal hours for each of the 3 phases of the breeding season. We determined that transition probabilities differed by season and diel cycle and dominant and subordinate social classes clearly avoided each other, with <1% co-occurrenee at feedi ng sites. During the pre-breedi ng seas on, the probability of a subordi nate being present during diurnal hours was 3.Ox more likely than a dominant being present, but did not differ during nocturnal hours. There was no difference for dominants and subordinates during diurnal or no cturnal hours during the breedi ng season .In the post-breedi ng season, subordi nates were 1.7x more likely to occur at the feeding site than a dominant during diurnal hours but they did not differ during nocturnal hours. Our results indicate that dominance status influences temporal segregation at feeding sites and is affected by the phase of the breeding season. Therefore, the resulti ng activity patterns may in crease subordi nates' risk to human predation during the prebreedi ng and post-breeding seasons.展开更多
