Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) schemes have achieved great attention recently and been considered as a crucial compo-nent for 5G wireless networks since they can efficiently enhance the spectrum efficiency, support massive connections and poten-tially reduce access latency via grant free access. In this paper, we introduce the candidate NOMA solutions in 5G networks, com-paring the principles, key features, application scenarios, transmitters and receivers, etc. In addition, a unified framework of these multiple access schemes are proposed to improve resource utilization, reduce the cost and support the flexible adaptation of multi-ple access schemes. Further, flexible multiple access schemes in 5G systems are discussed. They can support diverse deployment scenarios and traffic requirements in 5G. Challenges and future research directions are also highlighted to shed some lights for the standardization in 5G. 展开更多

Time is an essential reference system for recording objects,events,and processes in the field of geosciences.There are currently various time references,such as solar calendar,geological time,and regional calendar,to represent the knowledge in different domains and regions,which subsequently entails a time conversion process required to interpret temporal information under different time references.However,the current time conversion method is limited by the application scope of existing time ontologies(e.g.,“Jurassic”is a period in geological ontology,but a point value in calendar ontology)and the reliance on experience in conversion processes.These issues restrict accurate and efficient calculation of temporal information across different time references.To address these issues,this paper proposes a Unified Time Framework(UTF)in the geosciences knowledge system.According to a systematic time element parsing from massive time references,the proposed UTF designs an independent time root node to get rid of irrelevant nodes when accessing different time types and to adapt to the time expression of different geoscience disciplines.Furthermore,this UTF carries out several designs:to ensure the accuracy of time expressions by designing quantitative relationship definitions;to enable time calculations across different time elements by designing unified time nodes and structures,and to link to the required external ontologies by designing adequate interfaces.By comparing the time conversion methods,the experiment proves the UTF greatly supports accurate and efficient calculation of temporal information across different time references in SPARQL queries.Moreover,it shows a higher and more stable performance of temporal information queries than the time conversion method.With the advent of the Big Data era in the geosciences,the UTF can be used more widely to discover new geosciences knowledge across different time references. 展开更多

Vehicle recognition plays a vital role in intelligent transportation systems,law enforcement,access control,and security operations—domains that are becoming increasingly dynamic and complex.Despite advancements,most existing solutions remain siloed,addressing individual tasks such as vehicle make and model recognition(VMMR),automatic number plate recognition(ANPR),and color classification separately.This fragmented approach limits real-world efficiency,leading to slower processing,reduced accuracy,and increased operational costs,particularly in traffic monitoring and surveillance scenarios.To address these limitations,we present a unified framework that consolidates all three recognition tasks into a single,lightweight system.The framework utilizes MobileNetV2 for efficient VMMR,YOLO(You Only Look Once)for accurate license plate detection,and histogram-based clustering in the HSV color space for precise color identification.Rather than optimizing each module in isolation,our approach emphasizes tight integration,enabling improved performance and reliability.The system also features adaptive image calibration and robust algorithmic enhancements to ensure consistent results under varying environmental conditions.Experimental evaluations demonstrate that the proposedmodel achieves a combined accuracy of 93.3%,outperforming traditional methods and offering practical scalability for deployment in real-world transportation infrastructures. 展开更多

This paper describes the design of a unified framework for a multilingual text-to-speech (TTS) synthesis engine - Crystal. The unified framework defines the common TTS modules for different languages and/or dialects. The interfaces between consecutive modules conform to the speech synthesis markup language (SSML) specification for standardization, interoperability, multilinguality, and extensibility. Detailed module divisions and implementation technologies for the unified framework are introduced, together with possible extensions for the algorithm research and evaluation of the TTS synthesis. Implementation of a mixed-language TTS system for Chinese Putonghua, Chinese Cantonese, and English demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed unified framework. 展开更多

Model-based system-of-systems(SOS)engineering(MBSoSE)is becoming a promising solution for the design of SoS with increasing complexity.However,bridging the models from the design phase to the simulation phase poses significant challenges and requires an integrated approach.In this study,a unified requirement modeling approach is proposed based on unified architecture framework(UAF).Theoretical models are proposed which compose formalized descriptions from both topdown and bottom-up perspectives.Based on the description,the UAF profile is proposed to represent the SoS mission and constituent systems(CS)goal.Moreover,the agent-based simulation information is also described based on the overview,design concepts,and details(ODD)protocol as the complement part of the SoS profile,which can be transformed into different simulation platforms based on the eXtensible markup language(XML)technology and model-to-text method.In this way,the design of the SoS is simulated automatically in the early design stage.Finally,the method is implemented and an example is given to illustrate the whole process. 展开更多

Supervised machine learning methods have been employed with great success in the task of biomedical relation extraction. However, existing methods are not practical enough, since manual construction of large training data is very expensive. Therefore, active learning is urgently needed for designing practical relation extraction methods with little human effort. In this paper, we describe a unified active learning framework. Particularly, our framework systematically addresses some practical issues during active learning process, including a strategy for selecting informative data, a data diversity selection algorithm, an active feature acquisition method, and an informative feature selection algorithm, in order to meet the challenges due to the immense amount of complex and diverse biomedical text. The framework is evaluated on protein- protein interaction (PPI) extraction and is shown to achieve promising results with a significant reduction in editorial effort and labeling time. 展开更多

A large unified hybrid network model with a variable speed growth (LUHNM-VSG) is proposed as third model of the unified hybrid network theoretical framework (UHNTF). A hybrid growth ratio vg of deterministic linking number to random linking number and variable speed growth index a are introduced in it. The main effects of vg and a on topological transition features of the LUHNM-VSC are revealed. For comparison with the other models, we construct a type of the network complexity pyramid with seven levels, in which from the bottom level-1 to the top level-7 of the pyramid simplicity-universality is increasing but complexity-diversity is decreasing. The transition relations between them depend on matching of four hybrid ratios (dr, fd, gr, vg). Thus the most of network models can be investigated in the unification way via four hybrid ratios (dr, fd, gr, vg). The LUHNM-VSG as the level-1 of the pyramid is much better and closer to description of real-world networks as well as has potential application. 展开更多

Event extraction extracts event frames from text, while grounded situation recognition detects events in images. As real-world applications frequently encounter a multitude of unforeseen events, certain researchers have introduced cross-domain and in-domain event extraction, while grounded situation recognition primarily explores in-domain scenarios. Therefore, in this paper, we propose cross-domain grounded situation recognition and establish a new benchmark SWiG-XD. In this more challenging setting, we deepen the connection between the two tasks based on their underlying unity in two different modalities and explore how to transfer the generalization ability from text to images. Firstly, we utilize ChatGPT to automatically generate textual data, which can be divided into two categories. One category is directly matched with images, establishing a direct connection with the images. The other category encompasses all event types and possesses greater generalization. Then we employ a unified model framework to establish the association between textual concepts and local image features and achieve cross-domain generalization transfer across modalities through modality-shared prompts and self-attention mechanism. Furthermore, we incorporate textual data with higher generalization to further assist in improving generalization on images. The experimental results on the newly constructed benchmark demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. 展开更多

Sustainable development has been a popular concept since 1987 and the issuance of the Brundtland report.A diverse number of sustainability assessment frameworks are available to examine the environmental performance of buildings and communities.With the current pace of climate change and the increasing threat of stronger,more frequent natural hazards,however,there are doubts that sustainability alone is an effective response.Sustainability assessment frameworks in recent years have been criticized for not incorporating hazard resilience.To better understand the current level of emphasis put on resilience to natural hazards in green building rating systems,this study aims to assess the level of resilience integration in existing sustainability assessment frameworks.The results demonstrate an overall lack of resilience coverage in the frameworks with only four frameworks,CASBEE,LEED,Green Globes,and DGNB having resilience coverage of 27.5%,15%,2.6%,and 1.1%respectively.This confirms a need for more systematic integration of resilience indicators into sustain-ability rating systems to create combined frameworks for sustainability and resilience. 展开更多
