A new method was proposed for preparing AZ31/1060 composite plates with a corrugated interface, which involved cold-pressing a corrugated surface on the Al plate and then hot-pressing the assembled Mg/Al plate. The results show that cold-pressing produces intense plastic deformation near the corrugated surface of the Al plate, which promotes dynamic recrystallization of the Al substrate near the interface during the subsequent hot-pressing.In addition, the initial corrugation on the surface of the Al plate also changes the local stress state near the interface during hot pressing, which has a large effect on the texture components of the substrates near the corrugated interface. The construction of the corrugated interface can greatly enhance the shear strength by 2−4 times due to the increased contact area and the strong“mechanical gearing”effect. Moreover, the mechanical properties are largely depended on the orientation relationship between corrugated direction and loading direction. 展开更多

An analysis of the interaction mechanisms between a Shaped Charge Jet(SCJ) and a single Moving Plate(MP) is proposed in this article using both experimental and numerical approaches. First, an experimental set-up is presented. Four collision tests have been performed: two tests in Backward Moving Plate(BMP) configuration, where the plate moves in opposition to jet, and two tests in Forward Moving Plate(FMP) configuration, where the plate moves alongside the jet. Based on the virtual origin approximation,a methodology(the Virtual Origin Method, VOM) is developed to extract quantities from the X-ray images, which serve as comparative data. γSPH simulations are carried out to complete the analysis, as they well capture the disturbance dynamics observed in the experiments. Based on these complementary experimental and numerical results, a new physical description is proposed through a detailed analysis of the interaction. It is shown that the SCJ/MP interaction is driven at first order by the contact geometry. Thus, BMP and FMP configurations do not generate the same disturbances because their local flow geometries are different. In the collision point frame of reference, the BMP flows in the same direction as the jet, causing its overall deflection. On the contrary, the FMP flow opposes that of the jet leading to an alternative creation of fragments and ligaments. An in-depth study, using the VOM shows that deflection angles, fragment-ligament creation frequencies, and deflection velocities evolve as the interaction progresses through slower jet elements. 展开更多

The Explosive Reactive Armors(ERA)are really efficient at reducing Shaped Charge Jet(SCJ)performance. The main destabilizing mechanism is the transverse movement of the front and rear moving plates(MP)on the SCJ.Therefore,a good understanding of the interaction SCJ/MP is essential for improving both weapon and armor systems. In a previous article,we have shown that interaction regimes are mainly influenced by the local collision geometry. Thus,in the collision point frame, the angle of collision be-tween the continuous SCJ and the MP is a key parameter. This flow angle is acute for the Backward Moving plate(BMP)moving against the SCJ and obtuse for the Forward Moving Plate(FMP)moving alongside it.In the former, the jet is simply deflected, which is the regime 1 of deflection. In the latter, the interaction turns on an alternative creation of fragment and ligament, which is the regime 2.Fragments are parts of the jet that are only slightly deflected while ligaments are the curved material bridges that connect two consecutive fragments. When stretching, the jet is systematically subject to instabilities that disturb its surface, creating necks along it.Their growth finally leads to the jet fragmentation. In this article,we focus on this jet distur-bance and its consequences on the SCJ/MP interaction. An experimental set-up was built to implement the interaction between a SCJ and a moving plate for different collision points,at different stand-off distances. The plate can interact with a smooth SCJ or a disturbed SCJ at a close and a far stand-off distance, respectively. One of the main results is the visualization of a regime change in SCJ/BMP interaction.A regime 1(deflection)interaction changes into a ligament regime interaction(similar to a FMP regime 2)when the collision point stand-off is increased. It is proposed that this change can be attributed as the increase of the amplitude of the jet surface disturbances. This phenomenon is well captured by the gSPH simula-tions.Finally,using both experimental and numerical approaches,we propose a new detailed analysis of the different phenomena occurring during the interaction between a disturbed-surface jet and a moving plate.Interaction regime changes are linked to jet local geometry changes. The interactions of a BMP with a smooth SCJ or with a disturbed surface SCJ are geometrically not the same and, thus, generate different local flows and interaction mechanisms. However, some other simulations have been carried out with constant velocity jet whose surface has been previously disturbed. These simulations underline the influence of both disturbance wavelength l and amplitude A on the interaction regimes.Surface disturbances of the SCJ,linked to its stretching, have a major influence on its interaction with a moving plate. 展开更多

Asymmetric rolling (ASR), as one of severe plastic deformation (SPD) methods to make ultra-fine materials with enhanced performance is mainly used to prepare foil and thin strip. The asymmetrical rolling was achieved by adjusting the diameters of the upper roll and the bottom roll and was used to prepare hot-rolled thick plate of 5182 aluminium alloy. The shear deformation and plate shape control were experimentally studied. The experimental results show that asymmetrical rolling has a significant effect on metal deformation stream and can somehow refine microstructure and improve the uniformity of microstructure and properties. The asymmetrical rolling process can also reduce the rolling force. However, bending of rolling plate often happens during asymmetrical rolling process. The factors affecting the bending were discussed. 展开更多

The dynamic performance and wake structure of flapping plates with different shapes were studied using multi-block lattice Boltzman and immersed boundary method. Two typical regimes relevant to thrust behavior are identified. One is nonlinear relation between the thrust and the area moment of plate for lower area moment region and the other is linear relation for larger area moment region. The tendency of the power variation with the area moment is reasonably similar to the thrust behavior and the efficiency decreases gradually as the area moment increases. As the mechanism of the dynamic properties is associated with the evolution of vortical structures around the plate, the formation and evolution of vortical structures are investigated and the effects of the plate shape, plate area,Strouhal number and Reynolds number on the vortical structures are analyzed. The results obtained in this study provide physical insight into the understanding of the mechanisms relevant to flapping locomotion. 展开更多

In order to continuously simulate multi-pass plate rolling process,a 3-D elastic hollow-roll model was proposed and an auto mesh-refining module with data passing was developed and integrated with FE software,Marc. The hollow-roll model has equivalent stiffness of bending resistance and deformation to the real solid and much less meshes,so the computational time is greatly reduced.Based on these, the factors influencing plate profile, such as the roll-bending force, initial crown, thermal crown and heat transfer during rolling and inter-pass cooling can be taken into account in the simulation. The auto mesh-refining module with data passing can automatically refine and re-number elements and transfer the nodal and elemental results to the new meshes.Furthermore, the 3-D modeling routine is parametrically developed and can be run independently of Marc pre-processing program.A seven-pass industrial hot rolling process was continuously simulated to validate the accuracy of model.By comparison of the calculated results with the industrial measured data, the rolling force, temperature and plate profile are in good accordance with the measured ones. 展开更多

Improvement from the pseudo-elastic effect of shape memory alloy (SMA) on the low-velocity impact (LVI) resistance of a composite plate is investigated by the finite element method (FEM). The stiffness matrix of the dynamic finite element equation is established step by step and the martensite fraction is obtained at each time step. The direct Newmark integration method is employed in solving the dynamic finite element equation, while the impact contact force is determined using the modified Hertz's law. It is found that SMA can effectively improve the performance of a composite structure subjected to low-velocity impact. Numerical results show that the deflection of a SMA-hybrid composite plate has been reduced approximately by thirty percent when the volume fraction of the embedded SMA reaches 0.3. 展开更多

The nonlinear dynamic characteristics and optimal control of a giant magnetostrictive film (GMF)-shaped memory alloy (SMA) composite plate subjected to in-plane stochastic excitation are studied. GMF is prepared based on an SMA plate, and combined into a GMF-SMA composite plate. The Van der Pol item is improved to explain the hysteretic phenomena of GMF and SMA, and the nonlinear dynamics model of a GMF-SMA composite cantilever plate subjected to in-plane stochastic excitation is developed. The stochastic stability of the system is analyzed, and the steady-state probability density function of the dynamic response of the system is obtained. The condition of stochastic Hopf bifurcation is discussed, the reliability function of the system is provided, and then the probability density of the first-passage time is given. Finally, the stochastic optimal control strategy is proposed by the stochastic dynamic programming method. Numerical simulation shows that the stability of the trivial solution varies with bifurcation parameters, and stochastic Hopf bifurcation appears in the process; the system's reliability is improved through stochastic optimal control, and the first- passage time is delayed. A GMF-SMA composite plate combines the advantages of GMF and SMA, and can reduce vibration through passive control and active control effectively. The results are helpful for the engineering applications of GMF-SMA composite plates. 展开更多

Based on the analysis of primary parameters and experimental data in line heating process, the amount of local contraction generated by line heating has been illustrated. Then, combining with the computational result of local deformation determined by shell plate development, an optimization method for line heating parameters has been studied. Reactive armour is a very efficient add-on armour against shaped charge threats.Explosive reactive armour consists of one or several plates that are accelerated by an explosive.Similar but less violent acceleration of plates can also be achieved in a completely inert reactive armour. To be efficient against elongated jets, the motion of the plates needs to be inclined against the jet such that a sliding contact between the jet and the plates is established. This sliding contact causes a deflection and thinning of the jet.Under certain circumstances, the contact will become unstable, leading to severe disturbances on the jet. These disturbances will drastically reduce the jet penetration performance and it is therefore of interest to study the conditions that leads to an unstable contact.Previous studies on the interaction between shaped charge jets and flyer plates have shown that it is mainly the forward moving plate in an explosive reactive armour that is effective in disturbing the jet. This is usually attributed to the higher plate-to-jet mass flux ratio involved in the collision of the forward moving plate compared to the backward moving plate. For slow moving plates,as occurs in inert reactive armour, the difference in mass flux for the forward and backward moving plate is much lesser, and it is therefore of interest to study if other factors than the mass flux influences on the protection capability. In this work, experiments have been performed where a plate is accelerated along its length, interacting with a shaped charge jet that is fired at an oblique angle to the plate’s normal, either against or along the plate’s velocity. The arrangement corresponds to a jet interacting with a flyer plate from a reactive armour, with the exception that the collision velocity is the same for both types of obliquities in these experiments. The experiments show that disturbances on the jet are different in the two cases even though the collision velocities are the same.Numerical simulations of the interaction support the observation. The difference is attributed to the character of the contact pressure in the interaction region. For a backward moving plate, the maximum contact pressure is obtained at the beginning of the interaction zone and the contact pressure is therefore higher upstream than downstream of the jet while the opposite is true for a forward moving plate.A negative interface pressure gradient with respect to the jet motion results in a more stable flow than a positive, which means that the jet-plate contact is more stable for a backward moving plate than for a forward moving plate.A forward moving plate is thus more effective in disturbing the jet than a backward moving plate, not only because of the higher jet to plate mass flux ratio but also because of the character of the contact with the jet. 展开更多

Roll flattening theory is an important part of plate shape control theories for 20-high mill. In order to improve the accuracy of roll flattening calculation for 20-high mill, a new and more accurate roll flattening model was proposed. In this model, the roll barrel was considered as a finite length semi-infinite body. Based on the boundary integral equation method, the numerical solution of the finite length semi-infinite body under the distributed force was obtained and an accurate roll flattening model was established. Coupled with roll bending model and strip plastic deformation, a new and more accurate plate control model for 20-high mill was established. Moreover, the effects of the first intermediate roll taper angle and taper length were analyzed. The tension distribution calculated by analytical model was consistent with the experimental results. 展开更多

A high-accuracy multiresolution method is proposed to solve mechanics problems subject to complex shapes or irregular domains. To realize this method,we design a new wavelet basis function,by which we construct a fifth-order numerical scheme for the approximation of multi-dimensional functions and their multiple integrals defined in complex domains. In the solution of differential equations, various derivatives of the unknown function are denoted as new functions. Then, the integral relations between these functions are applied in terms of wavelet approximation of multiple integrals. Therefore, the original equation with derivatives of various orders can be converted to a system of algebraic equations with discrete nodal values of the highest-order derivative.During the application of the proposed method, boundary conditions can be automatically included in the integration operations, and relevant matrices can be assured to exhibit perfect sparse patterns. As examples,we consider several second-order mathematics problems defined on regular and irregular domains and the fourth-order bending problems of plates with various shapes.By comparing the solutions obtained by the proposed method with the exact solutions, the new multiresolution method is found to have a convergence rate of fifth order. The solution accuracy of this method with only a few hundreds of nodes can be much higher than that of the finite element method(FEM)with tens of thousands of elements. In addition, because the accuracy order for direct approximation of a function using the proposed basis function is also fifth order,we may conclude that the accuracy of the proposed method is almost independent of the equation order and domain complexity. 展开更多

In this paper, wave and vibratory power transmission in a finite L-shaped Mindlin plate with two simply supported opposite edges are investigated using the wave approach. The dynamic responses, active and reactive power flow in the finite plate are calculated by the Mindlin plate theory (MPT) and classic plate theory (CPT).To satisfy the boundary conditions and continuous conditions at the coupled junction of the finite L-shaped plate, the near-field and far-field waves are entirely contained in the wave approach. The in-plane longitudinal and shear waves are also considered. The results indicate that the vibratory power flow based on the MPT is different from that based on the CPT not only at high frequencies but also at low and medium frequencies. The influence of the plate thickness on the vibrational power flow is investigated. From the results it is seen that the shear and rotary inertia correction of the MPT can influence the active and reactive power at the junction of the L-shaped plate not only at high frequencies but also at low and medium frequencies.Furthermore, the effects of structural damping on the active and reactive power flow at the junction are also analyzed. 展开更多

A novel A1GaN/GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) with a source-connected T-shaped field-plate (ST-FP HEMT) is proposed for the first time in this paper. The source-connected T-shaped field-plate (ST-FP) is composed of a source-connected field-plate (S-FP) and a trench metal. The physical intrinsic mechanisms of the ST-FP to improve the breakdown voltage and the FP efficiency and to modulate the distributions of channel electric field and potential are studied in detail by means of two-dimensional numerical simulations with Silvaco-ATLAS. A comparison to the HEMT and the HEMT with an S-FP (S-FP HEMT) shows that the ST-FP HEMT could achieve a broader and more uniform channel electric field distribution with the help of a trench metal, which could increase the breakdown voltage and the FP efficiency remarkably. In addition, the relationship between the structure of the ST-FP, the channel electric field, the breakdown voltage as well as the FP efficiency in ST-FP HEMT is analyzed. These results could open up a new effective method to fabricate high voltage power devices for the power electronic applications. 展开更多
